The girl Sahara is a fifth grade student. She lives with her mom in America. She doesn't know 1 her dad has gone. Sahara is less 2 than her cousin Rachel who is very active(活跃的). In fact, Rachel is her only good friend.

Sahara loves 3 and writing. Her dream is to be a writer. However, 4 her school records (纪录), Sahara isn't a good student. She isn't 5 school subjects. She doesn't like to make friends with other students, either. 6 , her new teacher Miss Bodi doesn't think so.

One day Sahara didn't go to school because she got {#blank#}1{#/blank#}27 . To her surprise, Miss Bodi visited her home in the evening. Actually, her 8 was surprised, too. She said, "You are such a nice teacher! Is Sahara still the same?"

"The same? What do you 9 ?" Miss Bodi asked.

"I mean the same as what her 10 say. I guess you have read her school records," Sahara's mom said.

"No, I don't need to read any record. I can 11 my students with my eyes and heart," Miss Bodi answered.

Sahara's mother couldn't 12 her ears. She asked again, "You really haven't seen Sahara's records?"

"13 !I only see Sahara herself! And I'm sure she will be a great 14 some day," Miss Bodi said. "And most famous writers are usually bad at school subjects," she 15 .

Sahara stayed in her room, feeling much better — it was because of Miss Bodi's words instead of the medicine from the doctor.

"Amma, your son has sent money to you," said the postman to the old lady. She was sitting outside her house. Seeing him, Amma's face lighted up. "Let me first talk to my son," she was looking at him with hopeful eyes. But the postman tried to avoid it, "Amma, I don't have so much time. Don't talk with your son every time."

The postman wanted to go but Amma stopped him. She said, "It will take just a while." Hearing this, the postman dialed (拨号) a number on his mobile phone.After talking to her son on the phone, Amma was happy.

Then, the postman handed eight 100-rupee (卢比，货币单位) notes to Amma. After counting the money, she took out one note and gave it to the postman.

"Why, Amma?" asked the postman. Amma smiled and said, "You bring me money and also let me talk to my son. It must cost money, right? So keep it." Amma went inside after giving him lots of blessings (祝福).

The postman left and met his friend Ramu. "Every month you give your own money to Amma. Not only that, you give me money to talk to her on the phone as her son! Why?" Ramu asked.

The postman said, "Her son worked in a foreign country and used to send money to his mother every month. But one day, her son was missing. Now, he's still out of touch. I don't want to tell this to Amma. So I send her some money and ask you to talk with her on the phone."

A Once there was a forest where all the animals lived happily together. 

One day a family went to spend the day in the forest, and the son left his socks there. After the family left, a bear came by, found the socks, and decided to try them on. They fit so well, and he liked them so much that he wouldn't take them off. 

All the animals talked about the bear's new look. Soon, in that forest, there began appearing squirrels in shirts, rabbits in shoes, and even rats wearing hats! The forest doctor shook his head, telling animals, "This can't be good.    △    !" But no one listened to him. They said he was just out of fashion. 

However, it wasn't long before the first results of fashion-fever came. Several times the squirrel caught his shirt on trees, stopping him in mid-jump and sending him falling to the ground from a tree. The rat couldn't go into his hole without taking off his hat first. Even the bear, because of his socks, slipped(滑倒)from the river rock and almost killed himself. 

When the animals came to see the doctor, he gave them all the same advice, "Take off those clothes before one day they are going to kill you." Those who listened to the doctor's advice stopped having accidents. And the animals realized that they didn't need clothes at all. Starting to wear them had been very dangerous, and they had only done it to make others admire them, and to get attention. 

A portrait(肖像)fit for a king

Once upon a time, there was a king who lost his leg and eye during a war. Even with these challenges,  his cleverness and kindness made him a great 1 in his kingdom. 

One day, the king was 2 the palace hallway(走廊)and saw the portraits of his ancestors (祖先)on the walls. Thinking that one day his children would admire his portrait as well, he really wanted to  have it 3 well. 

However, he wasn't sure how his painting would turn out(以. . . 为结果)because of his physical problems. So he 4 a group of famous painters to the palace, offering a great deal of money to the artist who could create a beautiful portrait for him. 

All the painters began to wonder how to paint the king. They soon decided that it was an 5 task, fearing that if the portrait did not meet the king's expectations(期望), they would get punished. So, one by one, they started making excuses andpolitely refused. 

Then, one painter 6 and said that he wanted to give it a try. The king agreed. The painter started 7 and coloring the portrait carefully in a quiet room. After some time, it was finally completed!

All the other painters in the palace couldn't wait to 8 the portrait. When the painter presented the portrait, everyone, including the king, was9

The painter made a portrait in which the king was sitting on a horse, showing the one-leg side, holding his bow(弓)and aiming the arrow(瞄准箭)with his one eye closed. The king  was very pleased to see this10 portrait, and gave the painter a lot of money as he promised. 

Bob is a 15- year- old boy. He has many hobbies, such as playing the guitar and other musical i{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. But his favourite is dancing. He thinks it's {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(必要的) to dance well, because it can help build a wonderful body. 

However, Bob had a problem last summer. He wanted to join a dancing group, however, his school didn't have a boys' dancing group but only a girls' group. So he {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (设法完成) to join the girls' group. 

Bob thought his problem was over. But the problem was just a beginning. The school didn't allow Bob to stay in the girls' group. Bob f{#blank#}4{#/blank#} to be a member of it. The school gave the only r{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. They said, "If we let Bob stay in the group, other boys will want to join too. Soon, there won't be any girls in the group. " That was the school's {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(看法), and also their last word. They took Bob off the group. 

Bob was very {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(愤怒的) about it. So he went to ask a judge(法官) for help and tell him the t{#blank#}8{#/blank#}. The judge said it was not a right decision. The school c{#blank#}9{#/blank#} again. At last, the school {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(道歉) to Bob and set up a boys' dancing group. So Bob can go to the boys' dancing group now. 

Oliver Twist was brought up in the workhouse where only the poor and homeless lived. He was pale, thin and short for his age. The boys ate meals in a large stone hall. They ate a bowl of thin soup three times a day, with half a piece of bread on Sundays. The boys were always hungry and ate everything up. The bowls never needed washing. The boys polished(擦亮) them with their spoons(勺子) until they shone. 

 The boys got hungrier and hungrier until one day they intended to do something . One boy had to ask for more food that evening. So they decided who would go by drawing lots. Each boy took a piece of paper and anyone who got paper with a mark on it would do that. It turned out that Oliver Twist was that boy. 

 The evening arrived, the soup was served, and soon the bowls were empty again in a few seconds. The boys were desperate(绝望) with hunger. With fear, Oliver went up to the master who was a fat and healthy man. He held up his bowl and said, "Please, sir, I want some more. "

 The master turned very pale when he heard Oliver's words. "What?"said the master ina surprising voice. 

"Please, sir, "repeated Oliver, "Would you please give me more? I want some more. "The master hit him with the spoon heavily, then took Oliver's arms and shouted to tell the board(理事会). 

"He asked for more?" Mr Limbkins, the fattest board member, asked in horror. "The boy is ungrateful!" "That boy will be hanged in the future!" said another board member. Oliver was then locked up in a dark room.
