Last summer my parents took me to visit my uncle's family and I was so excited. My uncle lives on a big farm. It's about 100 {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(平方的) kilometres. Their house is at the foot of a large mountain. I always have a good time there.

In the afternoon, my cousin Rob took me to the forest. We walked along a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(小路) and found a hole. It was a trap(陷阱) for hunters(猎人) to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(抓住) little animals. We found a rabbit amd saved it. Then we saw some squirrels(松鼠) and played with them for a while. When we got home, we were so hungry and {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(渴的). We had a good dinner together. After dinner we watched TV for a while and then we went to bed.

The next day Rob {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(唤醒) me up early in the morning. We went to see the sunrise. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was so beautiful! We enjoyed it very much.

"Today, Niki will clean the floor,"our mother said. It was time to do our weekly housework. Our mother already had everything planned.

I started to sweep the floor. My brother Ben took the detergent(洗衣粉) to clean the windows and my sister Sarah took out the iron(熨斗). All of us had something to do. However, as I was not good at cleaning, I did not do a good job. In the end, my mother had to clean the floor again. Ben was clumsy(笨拙的 ). He splattered(泼溅 ) the detergent all over the floor and the sofa. My mother was exasperated. She decided to take over. Sarah was the only one who was doing a good job. She ironed one piece of clothing after another. However,she was ironing my mother's dress when her favorite advertisement came on television. Putting down everything, she watched the advertisement for a new toy carefully. She did not notice the smoke coming from the iron until she heard our mother shouting.

Our mother was so angry that she took over the ironing, too.

Finally, we watched TV and ate potato chips. Mom said we were not good at housework. However, we knew that she would ask us to do housework again the next time.

two firefighters

On a hot September afternoon, a fire started in a neighborhood in a city. A woman and her little son were sleeping when the fire broke out. So they became trapped (困在) in their apartment on the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} floor. People called 119 and a team of firefighters soon arrived. Two firefighters {#blank#}3{#/blank#} into the room and helped the mother and the son get out through the window. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, the mother and the son were saved and the fire was put out.

After they finished their work, this team of brave firefighters went to a nearby {#blank#}5{#/blank#} for dinner. But when the firefighters wanted to pay for their meals, they were surprised to find out that four young people had quietly paid for them.

In fact, such warm-hearted people can be found in many places in {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. Giving and receiving always work both ways. Offering help is a(n) {#blank#}7{#/blank#} part of Chinese culture. "When they were fighting against the fire, they didn't think of themselves," said one of the young people. In life, this kind of people, like policemen, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} and nurses, firefighters and others, who protect people from danger are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} as "unsung heroes". They deserve the acts of {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, thanks and respect for their contribution (贡献) to society.

I have always been big. I am comfortable with my body but there is a price to pay for being different. 

In primary school, I was crazy about gymnastics and was actually the team leader in my final year, but I had to make up for my shortcomings. Long after the other girls had left, I would still be in the school hall, trying my best to practice again and again without the coach around. It took months to master the ribbon(带子) and in the early days, I always got my ribbon in a terrible knot(结). However, I carried on and improved a lot. 

Whenever I went up in a competition, I always got the sense that the crowd did not expect much from an overweight child in front of them. They talked about my weight in low voices. One man even said, "That's the ugliest leotard(紧身衣) I've ever seen and the elephant inside it seems to be much better!" Hearing their words, you could understand my feelings. However, I just kept silent because I decided to let my ribbon do the talking. I worked harder on my ribbon and it showed. 

I was the winner in National Championship that year, but that was not the best thing I got from hours of tiring practice. The best thing was that my body cannot decide who I am. Society seems to believe that overweight people are unhappy with their weight and have low self-confidence, so they never count much. I do not believe that. I believe I can achieve anything because I am bigger than my body.
