An old woman lives in a town. She is going shopping with a basket on a boat. The boat is going across (穿过) the river. Her basket is empty now. Oh dear! Look! Her basket is in the water." Help! My basket is in the river!" the woman says.
A boy sees the basket. He says," Don't worry! I can swim. I can get it for you!" Hetakes off his shirt and shoes." Look after them for me, please !" he says, and gets into the river.
A duck (鸭子) sees the basket. It says," I can go by boat." It thinks the basket is a boat. It gets into the basket.
The boy is swimming in the river." Where's the basket?" he asks." " It's over there!" says the woman." It's under that duck!" The boy gets to the basket." Go away!" he says to the duck. The duck comes out of the basket and swims away.

I work in a school from Monday to Friday. My house is about ten kilometers from school. I usually go to work by train. I usually get up at 6:30 a. m. and take the train at 7:00 a. m. It usually takes me about twenty minutes. The train is quick and cheap (便宜的). I am never late for work.

I am a student. My house is near a beautiful river. My school is across from (在……对面) the river. I can walk to school across a bridge. It takes me about thirty minutes. But I often go to school by boat, because it is more (史加) fun. It takes me about twenty minutes.
Nancy:

Jeff has a good friend Mark. Jeff tells Mark about his smart dog. Mark doesn't believe it. Today, Mark comes to see Jeff in the morning. Jeff is playing with his dog. Mark says," I will give your dog money. I don't think it can buy newspapers." " Have a try (试一下) ," says Jeff.
Then Mark puts money into the dog's mouth and the dog walks out. After ten minutes, the dog doesn't come back. After an hour, the dog doesn't come back." How much money do you give the dog?" asks Jeff." Five dollars." " Well，if it has five dollars, it will go to the movies (看电影)," says Jeff.
Tom and Mike are good friends. Sometimes they are kind to each other. Sometimes they are not. But some of their classmates say they are like brothers.
One day they go out for a walk together. At noon they are very hungry and they go into a restaurant (饭馆) to have lunch. The waiter come up to them and ask," What can I do for you?"
"Please bring us two apples first" Tom say.
When the waiter put the two apples on the table, Mike take the bigger one at once. Tom get angry." You are impolite(没礼貌). Why don't you take the smaller one?" Tom say.
"But I am right" Mike with a smile." if I let you take first, which one will you choose?"
"Of course I'll take the smaller one," Tom say." Yes," Mike say," if you take the smaller one, the bigger one will be mine. Don't you think so?"
"Oh" Tom couldn't answer.
