For most people, summer holidays mean sun, sea and sand, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. She had a holiday full of ice and snow. She and her family travelled across Greenland! Starting just above the Arctic Circle (北极圈), Sarah's family used dogsleds with kites to cross the world's biggest island.

    Sarah says {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. "There is only snow, ice, and more snow. " The family travelled 15 miles a day for 22 days, moving faster when strong winds pushed along their kites.

    Then the weather became a bit hot for the dogs to pull sleds during the day, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. The Landrys lived in tents, ate dried food, and took baths with heated water. When they weren't travelling, they played with kites and made snowmen. Using their mobile phones, the family could send and get emails even from Greenland's ice cap! The road to the top was icy and dangerous.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. "Icebergs (冰山) were so bright, just like the rising sun." said Sarah. Now she and her family have returned home, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Next holiday, they are going to the South Pole.

Last term, we went to a group of islands for our school trip. It was exciting at first, but by the end of the day, I'd say it was really a 1 journey. 

We got up early and jumped onto the boats. As the boat moved on, I felt the breeze(微风) rushed into my face. The first island we arrived at was called the Island of the Pregnant Maiden. We were allowed into the water 2 about half an hour, and it was fun playing with my classmates. 

All was fine until one of my water shoes 3 into the water. So I had to do the rest of the trip with only one 4 on. 

5 we first walked through the forest, I thought it was a nice walk. But with only one shoe, my foot came across either cold shards(玻璃碎片)or hot stones along the way. My foot 6 badly with every step I took. But then something magical happened-I discovered a seashell the size of my hand! I felt like I had found gold and all the pain was worth it. 

The trip was a precious(宝贵的)experience-the beautiful sea views and the beach treasure hunt were great moments for me. I've learned an important 7 from that day. That is to not focus on the bad memories, 8 instead to remember the cheerful feelings and value them. 

 Late that night, we started our final part of the climb. Nervously we carried on after a short rest. Everyone looked  1 . Outside of the tent it was totally black. It was just after  2 . Snow was falling. It was freezing.

 The group climbed silently through deep snow. I could not think. The height of the mountain was playing tricks on my  3 . I tried to keep concentrated(集中思想) by watching my feet and counting to ten  4 .

 People around me were just standing still as they tried to get their breath.I tried to encourage them to keep walking. My friend looked at me 5 . He was really tired. He kept trying to lie down and go to sleep. If he did, he would freeze to death. I told him to keep moving. He climbed on. When I checked my  6 , I saw, with surprise, that I'd been walking for three hours already. I felt as if I was fighting every step of the way. All I wanted to do was to turn round and go down — but I must reach the top!

I began to wonder if I was not strong enough. I was losing my mind. My breathing was very rapid. Each  7 I took made me more and more dizzy(晕眩的). Someone told me we had another hour and a half to go.

I forced myself to  8 . I had to be more careful because one careless step could make me 9 .

Then I saw Gilman's Peak up ahead of me. Someone at the top was telling me to make one last effort. The sun was beginning to  10 above the clouds. I climbed up the last few meters and suddenly I realized I'd done it!I was there! I was at the top of Africa!

The summer holiday is coming. Ben will have a trip to Beijing with his two {#blank#}1{#/blank#}this weekend. His dad will also go and have a meeting. This is a great journey for Ben and he is very {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Ben knows little about taking a plane. It is his first time to take a plane. However, Ben's father often goes to other places by plane. 

In the morning, they arrive at the airport early. It is very {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Ben's dad tells Ben what to do. They sit close and wait there for a few minutes. It will take them about four hours to get to Beijing. A few days ago, they {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a hotel far from the Summer Palace because all the other hotels were full (满的) and they had no {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Ben is really looking forward to the trip. 

Born in the city, we are used to everything here. We are even getting used to the {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(噪声) and pollution in the city. It has become a part of our lives. We have never been to the country. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(大自然) is a strange world to us. This summer I had a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(机会) to go on a vacation to the countryside with my parents. 

For the first time in my life I have the experience of the country life.  Here I've {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(了解;意识到) what the life in the countryside is like. This is a small {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(村庄) far from cities. It is at the foot of a mountain. The life here is simple. It is different from the city life. 

There are few cars or {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(工厂). And they use little {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(石油). There is also no {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(废弃物) on the road. There are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(庄稼) in the fields. The air is fresh. People here are not as busy as the people in big cities. You can find people bathing in the sun {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(到处). They enjoy the quiet life very much. 

 Once there was a little boy called Charles who was raised in an orphanage(孤儿院).

 Charles wished that he could 1 like a bird. It was very2 for him to understand why he could not fly. The birds at the zoo were much bigger than 3 , and they could fly.

 Another little boy, Harry, had something wrong with his4 . He always wished that he could walk and run like other little boys and girls.

 One5 Charles ran away from the orphanage. He came by a park and saw the little crippled(跛脚的) boy playing in the sand. He ran towards Harry and asked him if he wanted to fly like a bird.

"No," said Harry. "But I have wondered6 it would be like to walk and run like others."

"That is very sad." said Charles. "Do you think we can be 7 ?" he asked.

"Sure." said Harry8 .

 The two little boys played for hours. They made 9 castles(城堡) and had fun. Then Harry's father came with a wheelchair to 10 his son to have dinner. Charles ran over to the boy's father and whispered(小声说) into his ear.

"That will be OK," said the man.

 Then Charles spoke to his new friend, "You are my only friend and I wish there was11 I could do to make you walk and run like others.12 there isn't. I hope this can make you happy."

 Charles13 and told his new friend to sit on his back. He then began to run across the grass. Faster and faster he ran, carrying the little crippled boy on his 14 .

 Harry's father was moved to15 as he watched his beautiful little crippled son flapping(拍打) his arms up and down in the wind, shouting at the top of his voice,

"I'M FLYING,DADDY!"
