①There is an old Chinese saying,"If someone gives you a little drop of water, you should return a spring of water." That means if someone helps you a bit, you should remember it and thank him or her gratefully(感激地)in return.

②The most important thing is to thank our parents. They work hard all the time to give their sons and daughters a better life. They cook meals for us, and they also do the chores for us. They always give us food and clothes. They teach us what is right and what is wrong.

③Don't forget teachers who give us dreams. They teach us a lot of things but they ask for nothing from us. Their work makes us a full man.

④Meanwhile, anyone we meet in our lives deserves (值得) our thanks. We thank people who hurt us, because we learn important lessons from them. We thank people who give us up, because they make us more independent(独立的). We thank people who are selfish(自私的), because we learn the importance of being kind. Of course, we should thank people who help us out.

⑤There are a lot of people that we should be grateful to in our lives. Find a way to show our thanks with actions, not just words.

Warming temperatures and shorter winters might sound like the end of snow days. However, rising temperatures may actually cause snowstorms to drop more snow, says David Robinson. He is a professor at a university in New Jersey. He studies climate (气候) change. 

Temperature change is one of the greatest in Earth's climate change over a long period of time. It can happen naturally or because of human activities, such as burning gas and coal. Burning these fuels produces carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and other pollutants into the atmosphere (大气层) , which hold heat in the atmosphere, leading to warmer global temperatures over time. 

But how could warmer temperatures lead to more snow? "To get snow, you need moisture (水汽) and freezing temperatures (0℃ or less) ", says Robinson. Without moisture in the air, there is no precipitation (rain or snow) . Robinson says there are signs that snowstorms are becoming stronger. This is because of this connection between moisture and precipitation. 

"The warmer the air becomes, the more moisture it holds. So, if it's warming and still cold enough to snow, you can get more snow," Robinson says. 

Of the 10 biggest snowfalls in D. C. region, five happened in the past 25 years, according to the NWS. During that same time period, average winter temperatures in D. C. increased. In 1996, the average winter temperature was 1. 8℃. In 2020, it was 6℃. 

Weather experts suggest that rising temperatures may make winter shorter and less cold. But for now, the snow is still falling. One day, winter might not have any days below the freezing temperature. Once temperatures stay above freezing, snowstorms become rain. Until then, we might continue to see strong storms. 

According to Robinson, that time could come sooner than we think. He says, "When we look back, years from now, we may see that this was the breaking point. "

When I was about fourteen , I had a lot of freckles(雀斑). I was so upset. I tried different ways to cover the freckles, but my mother would shake her head and say ,"▲"I felt sad hearing it .

My cousin Jessica had a peaches and cream complexion(白里透红的肤色) I couldn't help thinking that my life would be a lot different if I had a beautiful face too.

And then, in a magazine I found an advertisement(广告) for a freckle removal cream(祛斑霜) knew that I could afford it if I saved my money and I did . For three weeks I went to the mailbox every day exactly at the time the mail arrived.

Finally, I got the magical cream and I couldn't wait to try it on my face . Later that day I went to work on the farm. But if you apply it in the sun, it seems to make your skin worse. Instead of developing a clear complexion, you just get more and darker freckles.

By the end the day when I came back to the house, my family began to say things like," I have never seen you with that many freckles "When I saw myself in the mirror, I cried and hid in the bathroom .

When my grandfather came to see what was wrong with me I told him about the story of the freckle removal cream. Grandpa didn't understand, so I tried to explain why I didn't want to have freckles . He looked at me in surprise and said, "But my child, there are all kinds of flowers, and they are all beautiful." I said," I have never seen a flower with freckles ! "Then I ran back to my room.

When I opened my eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw was a tiger lily—a beautiful flower with freckles. I didn't know where Grandpa found it. Looking at it , I was lost in thought ...

It was a warm spring day in 2021. Chen Beier, a reporter from Hong Kong, was on her way to a small village called Atule'er. The small village sits at the top of a high cliff (悬崖). People can only get up to it by climbing a 2, 556-step steel ladder*. It is very dangerous. 

So, was Chen looking for adventure (冒险) there? The answer is no. The reporter was trying to show people something. 

In February 2021, China got rid of poverty (摆脱贫困). Many people couldn't believe this, because China has a large number of poor villages. To show the truth to people, Chen went to make No Poverty Land. 

The trip was so hard. When she was halfway up the ladder to Atul'er, for example, Chen felt so tired that she could hardly go any further. She was also afraid of heights. The villagers advised her to stop the climb, but the woman didn't stop. 

This steel ladder, in fact, is only six years old. Before it was built, the villagers had to face even bigger danger and use a rattan (藤条制成的) ladder. The government also built houses for the villagers at the foot of the mountain. Through No Poverty Land, people can easily see how life in poor places of China has been improved. 

China has changed a lot, but some people just find it hard to believe. Now, Chen has shown us what we can do about that: Don't just tell people about the great changes, show them when you can. 

When I was young, I liked to do voluntary (志愿) work. Once I offered {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (give) out water to the runners in a competition in our city. I was happy to see them passing by and taking a bottle of water. Seeing them, I thought maybe I could play a role in the competition, too! Then the next year I joined in the competition with a few {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (friend). I hoped I could finish the race as {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (quick) as I can.

It was very hot on {#blank#}4{#/blank#} day of the competition. After running for about 5 miles, I was so tired {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I decided I would never do this again. The first 5 miles was pretty hard to me. I jogged (慢跑）and walked. At times, I didn't know if I could {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (finish).

Near the end, a 70-year-old man appeared. He ran very fast. I {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (feel) a little embarrassed (尴尬的). I was about 50 years {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (young) than him, but I couldn't even keep up with him. At that time, I knew that I should never give up. Then I tried my best to run faster. Finally, as I reached the end, I was happy that I am successful and my father bought a gift {#blank#}9{#/blank#} me. The old man set a good example to me. I didn't regret (后悔) having this experience {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I learned a lot from that competition.
