Smartphones have become necessary tools in people's lives. We carry them everywhere, take them to bed and to the bathroom. And for many people, after waking up in the morning, what they see first is their smartphones.
Most worries about phones usually lie in the danger which is caused by using them while driving, or the bad influence they bring to us, such as making us depend on them too much but hardly care about people around us.
However, have you ever thought about your smartphone may be a factory full of microbes (细菌) and viruses(病毒). A survey made in 2019 found that most people(57 percent) in the UK use their phones on the toilet. Another study found three in four Americans(74. 5 percent) use their phones on the toilet. We also eat while using our phones and usually put them down on all kinds of dirty surfaces. All of them can transfer microbes onto our phones. And some of the viruses, like the common cold virus, can live on the phone surfaces for almost a week.
Researchers have shown that people touch their phone hundreds, if not thousands, of times a day. And although many of us often wash our hands after going to the bathroom, cooking, cleaning or gardening, it is almost impossible for us to consider washing our hands after touching our phones.
As a result, it's not surprising that studies have found our mobile phones are dirtier than toilet seats. Maybe it's time. to think more about keeping mobile phones clean.
