Jenny is my cousin. She looks very {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(可爱的). She has two big eyes and two small {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(耳朵). She usually wears a light green {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(毛线衣). She can do many things well.

She can sing well and her voice {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(听起来) nice. Also, she is good at cooking. She can make many kinds of food, such as {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(小甜饼;曲奇饼) and bread. They always {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(有……的气味) great. What's more, the bread tastes very {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(软的;柔软的). I often can't wait to have a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(尝试) as soon as she makes some. I like to put strawberry {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(果酱) on it to eat. In fact, I have a sweet tooth, so they are my {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(最喜欢的人或事).

All in all, I am glad to have such a wonderful cousin.

Sam hated doing chores. And he had many chores. For example, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays he took out the trash. And on weekends he always washed his father's car. He also cleaned his own room once a week. What a chore that was! Sometimes he even had to (1) look after his little sister and brother.

Sam had a foreign friend at school. His name was Kumar. Doing chores in Kumar's family was very different. In the house only the girl did chores. His sisters made all the beds and cleaned all the rooms too, even his bedroom. His mother always cooked the meals, and his sisters help her to go shopping, and prepare(准备) the food. They worked hard at home, doing all the chores with their mother.

So when Kumar talked to his friend Sam about chores, he felt very lucky. One day, Sam had an idea. He asked Kumar, "Could I borrow your sisters?" He wanted them to help him clean his room, but (2) they said "no". Instead, they asked Sam to teach their brother how to do chores, so he could make his own bed.

Sam and Kumar were very good at science. They were going to be scientists after university. They wanted to make a robot to do the chores. Then everyone—mothers and fathers, sons and daughters—would be happy!

As a mother，the Chinese﹣American writer Amy Chua is definitely a tiger. Her book，Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother （虎妈战歌） tells of the strict upbringing she gave her two children. She thinks that being  strict is the only way to d {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a child's potential and to make them strong，i{#blank#}2{#/blank#} and successful. Her kids were not allowed to watch TV or play video games. They were not allowed to "hang out" with other kids after school. They had to be the top students in their classes. And they had to p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the piano and violin for hours every day. As a result，her kids became successful. She admits this caused a lot of tears and anger but she has few regrets （后悔）. 

Chua says，like her，most A{#blank#}4{#/blank#} mothers are tigers because they believe their children can a{#blank#}5{#/blank#} a lot if they're pushed hard enough. She says American mothers are really cats. They care more about their children's self﹣esteem （自尊）. They don't want to push their kids too hard for fear of hurting their feelings. W{#blank#}6{#/blank#} soft words and understanding，they encourage their children to find their own path. 

So，is a tiger mom better than a pussycat? Perhaps it depends on the differences between Asian and Western cultures. It may also depend on the child himself. Some kids need to be pushed w{#blank#}7{#/blank#} others respond to a gentler hand. 

To growl or to purr? There is no easy answer. 

Wuhan is the capital city of Hubei. it is a beautiful, large and very important city in China. During last Spring Festival, the city received much tons of attention because a novel corona—virus (新型冠状病毒) appeared there and spread around the country. Several days before the Spring Festival，Wuhan was locked and the city became quiet and still. 

A big fight against the novel corona— virus was going on there. The doctors and nurses there became brave warriors (勇士) in masks (口罩), glasses and protective suits. Many of them had to work over ten hours every day drinking little or no water. They risked their health and even lives to treat the patients. Thousands of doctors and nurses from other cities and provinces in China went to Wuhan to support them. There is no doubt that they were all heroes in the fight. 

Besides doctors and nurses, everyone in our country was doing their own part in the fight against the novel corona—virus. 

That Spring festival was not as fun as it usually is. It even brought us to tears many times. However， we will never forget those difficult days, not only for the awful virus, but also for the efforts we made together and the lessons we learned.

An old lady was really glad when she was on the way back home. She was so tired after she shopped all day long. In the lift, she thought she would have a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(杯子) of coffee and a quick dinner, but when she got out on her own floor, both were forgotten because she found that her front door was open.

It was clear that a thief(小偷) had come into her house. There were some footprints on the floor and on the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(沙发). The old lady was so {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(不高兴的) that she telephoned the police at once. After a while, a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(两个) of policemen came and asked the lady some questions. Then they searched the house {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(细心地) and asked the old lady to check what was lost. After {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(午夜), the policemen left. They advised her not to stay {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(独自) in the house, so she telephoned her daughter and asked her to stay with her for several days.
