Sam hated doing chores. And he had many chores. For example, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays he took out the trash. And on weekends he always washed his father's car. He also cleaned his own room once a week. What a chore that was! Sometimes he even had to (1) look after his little sister and brother.
Sam had a foreign friend at school. His name was Kumar. Doing chores in Kumar's family was very different. In the house only the girl did chores. His sisters made all the beds and cleaned all the rooms too, even his bedroom. His mother always cooked the meals, and his sisters help her to go shopping, and prepare(准备) the food. They worked hard at home, doing all the chores with their mother.
So when Kumar talked to his friend Sam about chores, he felt very lucky. One day, Sam had an idea. He asked Kumar, "Could I borrow your sisters?" He wanted them to help him clean his room, but (2) they said "no". Instead, they asked Sam to teach their brother how to do chores, so he could make his own bed.
Sam and Kumar were very good at science. They were going to be scientists after university. They wanted to make a robot to do the chores. Then everyone—mothers and fathers, sons and daughters—would be happy!

When we arrived at the hospital, I saw Emma was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}in Mom's arms. She looked so small but really lovely. Joel is working on a project. He is taking photos in different {#blank#}3{#/blank#} around the world. He hopes his photos can encourage people to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} animals in danger. "My job is to tell their {#blank#}5{#/blank#} stories and I hope the world cares about them in time," he said. Joel calls his project the Photo Ark (影像方舟). He started the project in 2006 in his hometown of Nebraska, the US. And now he's {#blank#}6{#/blank#} working on it. He took his 10,000th {#blank#}7{#/blank#} in 2020. It was a small wildcat in America.
Joel puts each animal on a black or {#blank#}8{#/blank#} background and then takes photos of them. This helps people see their true colors and lets people see a little mouse as {#blank#}9{#/blank#} as a big elephant.
Joel shows his photos around the world and puts {#blank#}10{#/blank#} on the Internet, too. He also asks people to buy his photos, give money to the Photo Ark, and support zoos in their cities.
