They play many different kinds of music-from traditional Thai songs to music by Beethoven. Both children and adults love this group. What makes them so popular? Is it their music? Their looks? Yes, it's both of these things, but it's also something else: they're elephants.

These musical elephants are from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center (TECC) in Lampang. The TECC protects elephants. It teaches people to understand and care for these huge, but gentle (温顺的) animals, And like many zoos around the world, the TECC encourages elephants to paint.

Richard Lair works with TECC. He knew that elephants hear better than they see. So he had an idea: if elephants are intelligent and they have good hearing, maybe they can play music. To  test his idea, Lair and a friend started the Thai Elephant Orchestra (管弦乐队). During a show elephants play different kinds of instruments, including the drums. The animals also use their voices and trunks (象鼻)to make sounds.

But can elephants really, make music properly? Yes, says Lair. They're very creative. Humans may encourage the animals to play instruments, but the elephants make their own songs; they don't just copy their trainers or other people. There are now CDS of the group's music, which make money for the TECC. And the music these articles create is pretty amazing.

Up to now Jack has helped some children from poor countries all over the world by sending them $200 a month. The money is used for the children's study, food, medicine and clothing. Jack receives a report each year on the children's progress. They can write to each other, but usually the children do not speak English.

When Jack first heard about these children, he wanted to help them. "It was nothing special," he said. "Until I went to these countries and met the children I was helping, I didn't know anything about their life." Once Jack went to meet a little girl in Africa. He said that the meeting was exciting. "When I met her, I felt very happy," he said. "And I saw that the money was used for a good cause. It brought me happiness. I want to do everything I can to go on helping these children."

Jin Ying, 25, is a lover of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She took part in a three- month training course on acupuncture and tuina(针灸推拿)in the winter of 2023 at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.

Jin's life has been different since the training. She changed her life habits after learning the Five Elements theory. For example,she avoided sweating too much during exercise in winter because the cold of winter means people should slow down,according to TCM. For her,learning these skills and theories was not about becoming a TCM doctor but rather about holding a new lifestyle.

She is not an unusual example of young people becoming interested in TCM. A survey by China Youth Daily showed that 93. 3 percent of the 1, 000 young people who took part had tried different TCM treatments.

"I have seen a rising number of young people come to me for neck and back pains, which are usually related to the elderly," said Ma Huifang,a TCM doctor at Guoyitang,a TCM hospital.

Between Western medicine and TCM,young people often choose TCM "because of its efficacy," according to Ma. Some people question why TCM treats the same illnesses with different prescriptions(处方); "This is actually an advantage of TCM,, rather than a shortcoming,as it can be a more accurate treatment(精准的治疗) for different patients, " Ma explained.

Younger age groups are accepting TCM,and,at the same time,TCM is also benefiting young people. As Jin noted,"It helps young people-understand Chinese medicine well. "

 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中选出最佳选项。

Shadow play, known as"Ying zi xi"in Chinese, is a kind of ancient shadow art. It has a history of about 2, 000 years in China, India and Southeast Asia. The moving shadows on a screen are used to tell history and folk stories. And hand shadow is one of the simplest ways to make shadow play. With a bit of practice, most people can change the shape of hands to make animals, like dogs and birds, on the wall.

Today, shadow art has developed into one more creative style. In the spring of 2016, Vincent Bal, an artist in Europe, turned the shadows into a clever art form—shadow drawing. He named this special drawing "Shadowology". In the Shadowology, a little drawing is added into the shadows of everyday things to create wonderful pictures.

Like most good things in life, Shadowology came by accident. One day, during a break from work, Bal noticed that the shadow of his teacup looked like a little elephant. He drew eyes, legs and a smile for the shadow, and took a photo of that. After sharing the photo on the Internet, Bal surprisingly found people's love for it, which encouraged him to continue.

Since then, Bal has got 600, 000 fans on the Internet. He keeps producing as many different shadow works as possible. For example, he made a pair of sunglasses look like the wings of a butterfly, and a bottle become a lamp. All his works are interesting and playful. In 2023, Bal finished Shadowology films and a museum exhibition.

Nowadays, Shadowology has won the hearts of people around the world. With the wonderful drawing, people have got a chance to see the beauty in everyday things and discover the joy all around in such a busy world.
