In autumn, it gets cold. Some birds likewild geese(大雁) fly1 for the winter, flying in a "V"formation (队形).
2 do they fly in a "`V" formation?Because they can save energy. So they can fly more3.And the trip will also be safer because they are travelling with the help ofone another.
When a wild goose falls4 the formation; it won't try to go alone butwill quickly get back into formation. When the head wild goose gets tired, it5 and another wild goose flies the point (位置). Theyjust take turns to lead (领头). When the wild goose gets6 or is wounded (受伤),another two wild geese fall down with it. They follow the wild goose to7 it and give it help. They stay with the weakwild goose8 itis able to fly or till it dies.
If we9 from wild geese, we can stay in formation withpeople in the same direction (方向). If we humans (人类) have thesense (意识) of the wild10,we can stand by each other. And life will be much happier.

"Look! A lion!" Tom said. Mr. White looked where Tom was pointing (指向). At first, he saw only dry yellow grass. Then he saw the lion! She was washing her paws like a big cat.
The lion looked at the men. But she went on washing. "I'll drive closer to her," Tom said. He stopped the car close to the lion. Mr. White put his head out of the car window.
At once, the big cat stopped washing. She put her head down. Her tail moved from side to side. Her eyes looked wild. She was ready to jump at Mr. White.
"I don't like this lion," Tom said. "Let's go!" He started the car and away they went.
Mr. White was in Africa to hunt lions. Tom was helping him. Then why did they drive away?
Why didn't they use a gun (枪)? They had no gun! They were hunting with a camera!
"I wanted that big cat's picture," Mr. White said. "She was going to jump at you," answered Tom.
"Don't put your head out of the car again.A lion may look like a nice house cat, but it is not."
That day, they saw another big lion. She lay on the grass. When they came closer, they found two soft yellow cubs (幼兽) sleeping beside her. Mr. White took out his camera and took pictures of the mother and her cubs.
Travelling by bike helps us get close tonature (自然) andknow more people.
Last year, my family and I traveled to theAlaska (阿拉斯加) bybike. We went over the mountain and rode through valleys (山谷). We even found much snow on our tent when we woke up. We rodethrough the rain forests. Children climbed trees and tasted strange fruits.
Travelling by bike makes people closer andencourages them to show their kindness. It might be something easy like givingus a bag of apples or tomatoes. I can tell many stories about the people there.A woman in Oregon gave us the keys of her house and said, "Go to my houseand make yourselves at home. I'll be there in a few hours." She didn'teven know our names, but showed her help and encouragement to us.
One day in Mexico (墨西) ourboys played with some of the poorest kids in the country. Another day, westayed with a very rich family. Young couples (夫妇) andold, rich and poor, white and black, all made our travel wonderful.
I'm sure that traveling by bike is the bestway to see the world.
Do you know why birds sing? Many children say that they are just happy. Sometimes when you are happy, you tray also sing.
Some scientists (科学家) believe that birds sing sometimes because they want to tell others that they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is in fact a warning (警告) to other birds to stay out of their territory.
Then what is a "territory"? When a male (雄性的) animal claims (声称) a place as its own, the place is called its territory. Only he and his family are welcome there. For example, people's gardens and houses are their territories. If a strange person watts to come to your territory and hurt you, you might shout. This might be enough to frighten (吓唬) him away. If so, people drive the person away without having to fight with him. A bird does the same thing. He screams (尖叫). But he does it almost any time, especially at nesting (筑巢) season. And birds sing louder (大声地) in spring than in other seasons. This screaming is what we call a bird's song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.
