When your dream is to become a footballer, nothing should get in your way —even if you have no feet.
Gabriel Muniz, an 11–year-old Brazil kid, was born without feet. Although his family thought he would have serious difficulties living a normal life, he started walking before he was one year old. His mother would go after him, expecting him to keep falling, but he never fell. It took him a while to make the jump from walking to playing football, but he did make it. And, in fact, there's nothing he loves more than playing football. In his school, the skillful youngster (年轻人) is not only the best player in his school team but also the captain of his gym team.
He knows that his disability means he'll never be able to play for a professional (专业的) football team. So Gabriel is hoping that football will one day become a Paralympics (残疾人奥运会) sport. He proved to everyone there he could go head to head with any other boy. Watching him play is unbelievable. He's fast and he's got a big bag of tricks – he's very skilled and he does everything he can to copy his hero, Messi so much that he was invited to go to Spain to meet his hero Messi and show his talent in the Barcelona Football Club.
His coach says he is proving the disability only exists (存在) inside our heads and he is challenging the social rules.
A new report says living in a city makes it harder for people to concentrate(集中)on some tasks. The research found that people who live in rural areas can focus better than people in urban areas. The study is from Goldsmiths College, which is part of the University of London. Head researcher Dr Karina Linnell and her team made great contributions. They studied how two groups of people did the same "thinking tasks". The team went to a remote (偏远的) part of Namibia, southwest Africa, to study the Himba tribe. Himba people live a very basic life in the desert. They are still doing traditional farming. The team also studied members of the same tribe who had moved to the nearest town. Dr Linnell said the tribe who lived in the desert did much better on the tests than those in the town. It's really interesting and shocking.
Dr Linnell said their research may lead to changes in the way companies operate. In the future, workers may move from cities to live and work in the countryside. Linnell said there are too many things around us in the city that stop us from thinking about one thing for a long time. This means we do not work at our best. She asked, "What if, for example, companies realized certain tasks would be better carried out by employees based outside of the urban environment? There their concentration ability is better." The past century has seen billions of people move from the countryside to big cities. In the future, the trend may not continue. If Dr Linnell's research is true, this century might see many of those people return to the great outdoors. Let's wait to see what will happen.
When I was in primary school, I had an argument with a boy in my class. I thought that "I" was right and that "he" was wrong. But he thought "I" was wrong and "he" was right.
The teacher asked him to stand on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large and round ball. I could see it was black. She asked what color the ball was. "White," he answered.
I couldn't believe the boy's answer, because from my side it was obviously black!
The teacher told me to stand in the boy's place and told him to stand in my place. We changed our places, and then the teacher asked me what color the ball was. I had to answer, "White."
It was a ball with two different colors. From his side it was white. Only from my side it was black.
My teacher taught me a very important lesson that day: You must stand in other people's shoes and look at the situation through their eyes in order to truly understand their view.
Many people think of guys as being carefree when it comes to their appearance. But in fact, a lot of guys spend plenty of time in front of the mirror.

I was tired and hungry after a long day of work.
When I walked into the living-room, my 12-year-old son 1 up at me and said, "I love you." I didn't know what to say. For several 2 all I could do was to 3 there and look at him. My first thought was that he must need 4 with his homework or he was trying to 5 me for some news.
Finally I asked, "What was that all about?"
"Nothing," he said. "My teacher said we should 6 our parents that we love them and sees what they say. It's 7."
The next day I called his teacher to find out more about this "experiment" and how the other parents had 8.
"Most of the fathers had the 9 reacting (反应) as you did," the teacher said. "When I first 10 we try this, I asked the children what they thought their parents would say. Some of them thought their parents would have heart trouble. "The 11 is," the teacher explained, "feeling loved is an important part of 12. It is something all people 13. What I'm trying to tell the children is that it's too 14 we don't all express those feeling. A boy should be 15 to tell his dad he loves him."
The teacher, a middle - aged man, understands how 16 it is for some of us to say the things that would be good for us to say.
When my son came to me that evening, I held on to (抱着) him for 17 second. And just before he 18 away, I said in my deepest, most manly (有男子气概的) voice, "Hey, I love you, too."
I don't know if saying that made either of us healthier, but it did fell pretty good (感觉很好). Maybe next time one of my children says "I love you", it would not take me a whole 19 to think of the right 20.
The dictionary seems pretty simple. Words (list) in order, and you simply tum to the right page and find the word you're looking for. But (actual), there's something you might not know about the dictionary.
We think of dictionaries as large heavy (book) that include everything. But there were not any simple, common words in early English dictionaries. In the16th and 17th centuries, thanks the Renaissance's (文艺复兴的)influence, English doubled its vocabulary by (borrow) words from other languages. Throughout the 17th century, many English men published lists of hard words and people turned to the dictionary (lean) these words.
Although Noah Webster wasn't first American to produce a dictionary, his name was closely connected with the American dictionary. To fully research words, Webster learned 26 languages to write his dictionary, is called The American Dictionary of the English Language. (publish) in 1828, it had over 70, 000 words. After Webster died in 1843, George and Charles Merriam (buy) the rights to revise (修订) Webster's dictionary. Their efforts paid off in the fall of 1847 and the book sold well.
