I rescued my little Foxy several years ago. I wasn't looking for her, but she just crawled (爬) up onto my lap and went to sleep, so I took her home. She spent the night with her head on my pillow, and I knew she belonged to me.

I was her person. She didn't really like other dogs or people until I met my wife-to-be. The day Angelika came over to visit for the first time was the last time Foxy was truly my dog. She abandoned me for the love of a tender (温柔的)woman, and who can blame her? I would have done the same. Then Angelika and I got married, and we became a happy family.

The three of us always walk together through our village from the hills to the lake. We get exercise and have fun because Foxy enjoys her walks and strolls  (漫步)through the neighborhood like a 10-pound prize pony (小马).

How sweet and lovely, you say, but there is dark side to the little furball! Foxy is now a one-woman dog - she has totally bonded with my wife and won't go for a walk at all if Angelika is out. She just lies in her bed by the window waiting for her angel to come walk through the door, and I have to tell you, I feel a little rejected. But it is pretty cute.

I understand animal bonding. My therapy dog, Mercy, was with me for over a decade, and we were a total item. In fact, it wasn't until Mercy died that I decided to remarry. That's how much unconditional love she gave me.

Now my wife is getting to experience that kind of bond for the first time. Young or old, big or little, when your dog finds you, it's an amazing experience, and the love you feel just makes your life sweeter.

When you adopt an animal, remember that it's a lifetime commitment. And if your pet falls for your other half, just enjoy watching the love.

What do you think of cats? Some people think very lovely. But not all people love cats. Compared with dogs, cats seem to be very lazy and unfriendly. Besides, cats are not known for acts of selflessness (无私). But maybe we're wrong about them. Don't believe it? Then meet Pippa, a very unusual cat.

The black-and-white cat was left in a box outside a shop and taken by the British RSPCA to the Jansa family in Whitstable, Kent. They really loved her character (性格) and decided to adopt (收养) it,but they never guessed she'd become a lifesaver.

Eight-year-old Mia Jansa had diabetes and had become good at testing her blood during the day, as well as having something to eat or drink to bring her blood sugar levels back. But the danger was at night. Mia could easily experience hypoglycemic (低血糖症的) situations when she was asleep, which could cause even death.

Soon after she was adopted, Pippa went into Mia's bedroom in the middle of the night and woke her up. When the child tested her blood sugar levels, she found they were dangerously low. Ever since, Pippa always visits Mia at night. If she can't get her to wake up, she raises the alarm.

“Pippa does this of her own accord,” says Mia's mother Laura. “We don't make a request for caring because we don't want to encourage wrong alarms. She gets plenty of hugs. It gives me peace of mind and I know someone else is keeping an eye on Mia.”

Now the family is so happy that they've chosen to adopt it in the first place.

A couple had a son eleven years after they married. They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eye. When the boy was around four years old, one day the father was very tired after work so he asked his wife to pick up their son. The mother, who was very busy in the kitchen, totally forgot about it.

Later the boy lost his way on the street. When the son was found missing, the mother hurried to look for him, but she didn't find him. The mother felt very sad and didn't know how to face her husband.

When the father went to the police station after hearing that the son was missing, he looked at his wife and said just four words. What do you think the four words were? The husband just said “I love you, darling.”

The son was missing. If she had picked him up earlier, this would not have happened. There is no point in blaming (责备) anyone. His wife had also lost her only child. What his wife needed at that moment was comfort and understanding from her husband. That is what the husband gave his wife. Several weeks later, with the help of the police, the couple finally found their lost son. The family's relationship became stronger over that time.

Sometimes we spend lots of time asking who is to blame. We miss many chances to give each other support and let each other feel the warmth of human relationships. Get rid of all your unwillingness to forgive, selfishness, and fears and you will find the world is much more wonderful.
