A new camera made by a company named Netatmo has facial recognition software (人脸识别系统) that can tell parents at work that their children have returned from school, or that a package (包裹) has been taken to their home. It can also tell them if a stranger has entered their home.

Janina Mattausch is a product marketing manager for Netatmo.

"The common security (安全) cameras at present are not that smart. So, they can tell you if something is moving but they don't necessarily know if it's a human being or, ah, if it's your kid- they don't know the difference, so they will warn (警告) you all the time."

When family members enter a home, the new camera "recognizes" (识别) them and sends information to the owner's smartphone. The owner can choose to see the video then or later. But if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send the owner a warning that will cause an alarm to sound on the owner's smartphone.

That is what happened recently to a smart home camera owner named Damien. He lives in Paris.

"On a Friday I was at work, attending a big monthly meeting when my phone warned. At first I told myself 'Oh, it must be a mistake, maybe I have to set the system again.' —but the notice on my phone was telling me that there was a movement in my flat and also a face that the software did not recognize."

He watched the video and was very surprised by what he saw.

"I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on. I was watching it live on video. So I felt totally unbelievable, frozen. I asked a workmate to take me back home as fast as possible and I called the police on the way."

With the help of the video, the police found the intruder (闯入者) later that day.

Do you know that women's brains are smaller than men's? Normally the women's brain weighs 10% less than men's. Since research has shown that the bigger the brain, the cleverer the animal, men must be more intelligent(聪明的) than women. Right? Wrong. Men and women always score similarly on intelligence tests, despite the difference in brain size. Why? After years of study, researchers have concluded that it's what's inside that matters, not just the size of the brain. The brain is made up of “grey matter” and “white matter”. While men have more of the white matter, the amount(数量)of “thinking” brain is almost the same in both men and women.
It has been suggested that smaller brain appears to work faster, perhaps because the two sides of the brain are better connected in women. This means that little girls may learn to speak earlier, and that women can understand sorts of different information at the same time. When it comes to talking to the boss on the phone, cooking dinner and keeping an eye on the baby all at the same time, it's women who come out on top every time.
There are other important differences between two sexes(性别). As white matter is the key to spatial(空间的)tasks, men know better where things are in relation to other things. “A great footballer always knows where he is in relation to the other players, and he knows where to go,” says one researcher. That may explain one of life's great mysteries: why men refuse to ask for directions … and women often need to!
The differences begin when fetuses(胎儿)are about nine weeks old, which can be seen in the action of children when they are very young. A boy would try to climb a barrier before him or push it down while a girl would ask for help from others. These brain differences also explain the fact that more men take up jobs that require good spatial skills, while more women speech skills. It may all go back to our ancestors, among whom women needed speech skills to take care of their babies and men needed spatial skills to hunt, according to one research.

English playwright Arthur Wing Pinero said,"Where there's tea, there's hope." Similarly, a Chinese saying goesthat "Firewood, rice, cooking oil, salt, sauce, vinegar and tea are theseven necessities to begin a day."

Tea is, without doubt, welcomed all overthe world. According to Statista, a German website for statistics (数据), global tea production reached about 5.8million tons in 2018. It has become the most consumed beverage (饮品) in the world – after water, of course.

According to the UN, tea is much more thanjust a hot drink. It's a big part of many cultures around the world. Youprobably know that people in China use top-grade tea to show respect whenreceiving important guests. Meanwhile, the British tradition of afternoon teais an important part of that country's identity. Making Malaysia's pulled teahas become a sort of art form, where drinkers take pride in its entertainmentaspects.

Apart from its cultural significance (意义), tea is also a medicine, used from ancienttimes to modern day. "Tea is cold and lowers the fire," Chinese MingDynasty herbalist Li Shizhen once said. The health benefits of tea are stillbeing discovered today: preventing heart disease, obesity and cancer have allbeen linked to drinking green tea, according to the National Center forBiotechnology Information in the US.

Hot or cold, bagged or loose-leaf,teais more than a drink– it's a social custom and also a magic medicine, alink to the past and a way of life.

British people are big tea drinkers. It is a tradition in Britain to drink tea for many reasons. People enjoy it at breakfast, during visits with friends, and on tea breaks at work. People even "have a cuppa" when they talk about their personal problems. But the biggest reason for drinking tea is to relax.

Recently, a research from the Tea Group shows that more people would like to choose fruit and other teas over traditional English breakfast tea. Researchers did a survey of more than 2,000 tea lovers. Over 50% of people said their favourite tea was not the traditional one. Over 20% of people chose green tea as their favourite tea. Just over 20% said English breakfast tea was their first choice.

Sales of traditional tea in the UK are declining (下降) during these years. Three years ago, a survey found that English breakfast tea was the preferred (更喜欢的) choice for 54 % of British people. But the new research shows a declining interest in this traditional tea.

The researchers also found other interesting facts about tea-drinking habits (习惯) in the UK. The British seem to love milky and sugary tea. Around 85 % of people who drink English breakfast tea would like to put milk in it. About 45% of people sweeten their tea with sugar, and interestingly, those with a sweet tooth put as much as three teaspoons of sugar in their cup.

 阅读下面材料,从方框中所给的A—F 六个选项中选择正确的选项,将其序号填入第41—45小题。其中一项是多余选项。

But some people still don't know the importance of protecting them. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Every day there are many wild animals being killed. So lots of wild animals have died out. We can't see them any more.

Today wild animals are becoming less and less. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If this goes on, there will be no animals left on the earth in the future.

Luckily, many people began to know the importance of protecting wild animals. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} They teach others about the importance of protecting wild animals. Now many countries have made some laws (法律) to protect wild animals and to stop people from killing them.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} We should do our best to protect them because protecting them is protecting ourselves too.
