I was in my room, slowly getting ready to head to the theatre with the rest of my family.

I don't want to put on the show in the theatre that day. "Kirstie, come here!" Mum called from down the hall.

"What is it?"I called back and found my mum outside the bathroom, holding a wet book.

Mum gave the book a shake. "Henry's book was in the bathroom. Did you put it there?"

"Not on purpose," I said disinterestedly,"It was already on the corner, and it happened to fall in when I stepped out." Mum looked at

me angrily,"You could have picked it up. That would be the kind thing to do."

Mum never acted like this before. Being kind wasn't actually that hard. But after Henry and his dad moved in, everything felt different. As Henry walked ahead of us to the car, Mum took me aside.

"This is our corner of the world now, Kirstie,"she said. "Let's try to make it a good one. "

I nodded unwillingly.

The theatre was busy as usual. One play a year in the theatre used to be what Mum and I did together most excitedly. But now, with Henry here, it won't be special any more.

Soon, it was my turn. I forgot my anger at Henry when I went on the stage.

As we kids lined up on the stage, I realised how poorly I had tied(系) the drawstring on my skirt —my bow(蝴蝶结) suddenly came untied and my skirt began to drop — in front of hundreds of people!

It was not a dream! It was terribly real! People soon began laughing, and I could feel my face burning.

Then Henry, beside me, came to my aid! He tidied up my clothes, tying the drawstring with a beautiful knot (结). He made a joke about me"not"knowing knots, and most of the people laughed again! This time, the laughter felt OK!

At the end of the show, I found Henry and touched him on the shoulder. "Thanks!"

He smiled, "Knot a problem!"

I smiled guiltily (惭愧地 ). Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a new person in my corner of the world after all.

Muhammad Ali was born in the United States in 1942. Today, many people think he was the most talented boxer in the world. They call him "The Greatest of All Time". However, few people know how he became a boxer. The story is unusual.

When Ali was a little boy, somebody stole his bike. Ali cried and told a police officer. The police officer was also a boxing coach. He asked Ali if he wanted to learn how to box. Ali said yes. He wanted to learn how to box because if he ever met the person who stole his bike, he wanted to beat him up! Ali probably never found his bike, but that was a very important day in his life. It was the day he started boxing.

Ali became very successful right away. He wasn't just strong. He was also very fast and smart. In the 1960 Olympics, he won a gold medal for the USA. After that, he became the heavyweight champion of the world. In total, Ali won fifty-six professional boxing matches, and lost only five.

Ali wasn't just a great boxer. When Ali was the champion, the United States was fighting a war in Vietnam (越南). Many Americans thought the war was wrong. The government tried to make Ali join the army. Ali said no. He thought that the war was wrong, so he didn't fight in it. Ali was punished. He was not allowed to box, and he lost a lot of money. However, he didn't care. He still refused to go to Vietnam. Finally, Ali was allowed to return to boxing. He soon became the champion again.

Muhammad Ali always did the right thing. He stopped fighting more than 30 years ago, but people around the world still love him.

Everyone gets ill sometimes. What do you often do when you are ill? Maybe I can give you some 1 .

②You can start to try becoming outgoing when you stay with your friends. But the real challenge (挑战) comes when you meet strangers or new friends. Smile at them, and usually they will smile at you, too. You may find it easy to start talking in this way.

③Start a talk positively (积极地).Try to speak first. Simple greetings such as "Hello!" "How is it going?" and "It's a little cloudy today, isn't it?" are a good start. After that, you can talk more. For example, you can talk about the____latest____news. But you'd better read some news in newspapers and have your own ideas first. Or you may find that you won't have much to say.

④The best way to become outgoing is to go out. It is also a very important step. Usually those who like to do the same things can get to know each other better. If you like playing sports, go to a sports club. You may make many new friends there if you get over your shyness.

Shay can never hold her chopsticks (筷子) well. "Like this, Jiajia." her mother holds out her own chopsticks and called Shay's Chinese name. Shay tries but it's too difficult. She makes a face. "I don't want to. Everyone at Abigail's house uses spoons and forks (叉子)." she says and reaches for a spoon.

The next day, Shay's mother prepared noodles for her lunch. Chopsticks, too. Only chopsticks. "I have two forks," Abigail says, "You can borrow if you like." Abigail can't use chopsticks at all, but she doesn't have to. She is pretty and blond and has a last name that isn't Chinese. "Yes, please!" Shay says, "Thanks, Abigail!"

After dinner, Shay sits with her mother at the desk. she takes out some drawing things from the desk. "What do you want to draw?" Mom asks. "A dragon!" Shay says. At school, her class is reading stories and her favorite characters are always dragons. They are big and strong, and they breathe fire (喷火). Mother also draws quietly with Shay, side by side. Shay draws a fire-breathing dragon and she turns to her mother's drawing: a snakelike animal with big teeth. It's a Chinese dragon, a long.

"That's pretty, mom!" Shay says. "I wish long had wings (翅膀). Then they could fly like my dragon does." "They do fly and they can swim, too. The long is a dragon as I know it. And this is a dragon as you know it. But they are both dragons." Mom points to Shay's drawing. "Oh," says Shay, "So it's just like how I know forks and you know chopsticks?" Mother thinks for a while and laughs. "Yes. Just like that. There really is no wrong way to eat, you can use forks or you can use chopsticks."
