How to Save Your Laptop after a Spill

Spilling coffee, juice or water on a laptop might seem like the end of the world, . Here's a five-step plan to rescue a laptop after a liquid spill.

    Switch the laptop off

Shut down the laptop. . Remove the power cord, unplug any peripherals and remove the battery. The biggest danger at this time is the device shorting out.

Remove excess liquid from the laptop

Remove excess liquid with a soft cloth or paper towels. Do not use a wiping motion as that just spreads the liquid further.

With the laptop facing away from you, move it from side to side and from front to back in a gentle rocking motion to help the liquid to escape from all four sides.

Use compressed air to dry the laptop

Make sure that you have removed all excess liquid. Then, if you have one, use a can of compressed air to help dry the laptop. . Keep the dryer moving all the time and hold it at least 20cm above the laptop.

Leave laptop to completely dry out

Leave the laptop opened in an inverted "V" shape in a warm area, to completely dry out. . Wait for 24 hours or longer, making sure the keyboard is completely dry, before reinstalling the battery and peripherals.

If you must replace your laptop keyboard, please remember: most laptop keyboards can be replaced by a technician, or you can purchase a new USB or wireless keyboard to use with the laptop.

To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Try the following steps:

Calm yourself. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love. Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.

Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.

Don't forget to forgive yourself. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.

A. Why should you forgive?

B. How should you start to forgive?

C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.

D. Try to see things from your offender's angle.

E. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.

F. To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.

G. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} They shake hands when they meet for the first time. They shake hands to say congratulations. They shake hands when they meet after not seeing each other for a while. And they often shake hands when they say good-bye. In business, shaking hands shows agreement and honesty.

Want to know how to be a confident friend-finder? We can help, with four easy steps.

Step 1. Change your mental state.

It's easy to get so freaked out(不安的)about being in a new situation that you start throwing off don't-come-near-me signals. And guess what? It worked. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Instead, change your attitude with some positive thinking. Tell yourself: “It'll be great to get to know someone new”, or “I can't wait to hear what these girls have to say.”

Step 2. Remember, the eyes have it.

The first place we look at when we're uncomfortable is the floor. No one can tell if we're embarrassed. We can't tell if anyone is looking at us. Whoa! {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Holding your head up and making eye contact is a bold(大胆的)move. It's confident and friendly.

    Step 3.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Does starting a communication bring on an attack of shyness? Try adding a good question to your friend-finding tools. Strong opening questions usually begin with “what” or “how” words that get people talking. Typically, our first instinct (本能) is to ask a “can” or a “do” question, like “Can I borrow a pencil?” or “ Do you know where the bathroom is? {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Asking “what” or “how” questions gets you more information to respond to. Try something like “Hi. I really like that flower. How did you draw it?” or “Hi. I'm new. What's the least scary lunch option in the cafeteria?”

    Step 4. Practice, practice, practice.

Making new friends is a skill. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}But the more you practice, the more relaxed and natural. You'll feel, and the easier it will get. So flash that smile, offer some welcoming words, and soon you'll be hanging out with your newest friends!

A. People don't come near you.

B. All you need is one question.

C. Listen closely to their answers.

D. Not a good way to meet people.

E. The thought of meeting people makes you excited.

F. But that only gets you short answers. Like “Yeah” or “Down the hall”.

G. Like art, music, or sports, it takes practice to feel truly confident of it.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Social media can bring the feeling: "All my friends have better lives than me." Plus, design features like "read receipts" can lead to teens knowing their messages have been seen and stressing about why friends haven't yet replied. These are classic examples of thinking traps. Identifying them can help teens get rid of some negative thoughts.

When you were at school, were you ever told to stop daydreaming and concentrate? It was easy for your mind to wander if you weren't interested in what you were learning or if you had better things to think about. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But understanding how to do it, and knowing what is distracting you, can help.

Scientists have looked at what makes us delay and found a number of ways to help us stay in the zone. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Research by Science Focus magazine found silence is best for concentration, or a gentle background music is great! It also found turning off notifications on your phone, or switching it off altogether, removes a major distraction and helps us focus on the task at hand.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Psychologists and neuroscientists are increasingly interested in our ability to settle down and have looked at what we can change inside our head to make us concentrate. An article for BBC Future by Caroline Williams says that "Attention Researcher Nilli Lavie of University College London has found that making a task more visually demanding takes up more processing power and leaves the brain nothing left to process distractions." So, keeping your mind busy might be the answer.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} These include making a list or timetable of the tasks you have to do, finding a workspace where you're not attracted by other things, or chewing some gum! It's possible the movement in your mouth occupies parts of the brain that might otherwise get distracted.

But according to Science Focus magazine, distraction isn't all bad. "If we were always so focused that we never got distracted, we'd miss potential changes, such as threats, in our environment. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} ."

A. Distraction is vital for survival.

B. Staying focused can avoid dangers.

C. Performing visual tasks makes us concentrate.

D. One of the most obvious things is removing noise.

E. Staying focused can still be a challenge in adult life.

F. There are more practical tips to keeping your mind focused.

G. Another possible cure for a short attention duration is brain training.
