Do you know guide dogs? Guide dogs are usually very  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (聪明).They have long acted as the"eyes"of  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(失明) people. Most of them can't get around without the help of a well-trained guide dog. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (训练) guide dogs is a difficult task, but thanks to The Seeing Eye, we're able to get the most out of the four-legged friends.

The Seeing Eye is the world's  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(最老) guide dog school. They  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (养育) and train guide dogs.

When Seeing Eye puppies are 7 or 8 weeks old, they are delivered to the homes of volunteer puppy raisers. They teach the puppies basic manners and commands (命令), and take them out to  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (大街) and on public transport.

When the puppies are 13 to 19  {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (月) old, the raisers return them to The Seeing Eye.  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (每个) dog is assigned (分配) to a Seeing Eye instructor and it will be trained for about 4 months.

Once the four-month training  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (结束), the instructors will train the dogs with their new owners for 18 to 25 days.

"Training a guide dog  {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(要求) lots of work and patience, but it's well worth the effort,"says Emily Foster, who works for The Seeing Eye."I feel happy every time I see a working guide dog in the street."

Scientists in Japan have now created cockroaches (蟑螂) powered by the sun. The scientists can control the living insects from far away {#blank#}1{#/blank#}they have small implants (植入物). This sounds very amazing. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}why do we need this kind of cockroach?

Cockroaches can go some places where humans cannot fit. So, these remote-controlled (可遥控的)insects could help out humans in certain {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(situation). For example, they can look {#blank#}4{#/blank#}people in search and rescue operations(搜救行动).They could also go into {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(danger) areas.

The scientists in this project {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(finish) a great deal so far. However, this is not the end of {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (they) work. They still don't stop finding out {#blank#}8{#/blank#}way to improve the cockroaches.

Some people might wonder if we are being unkind {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (use) cockroaches this way. Researchers are still testing to decide if these and other insects feel pain or have feelings. They have already found that cockroaches have different personalities (个性) and can make decisions {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(quick) and smartly. As humans, we can each decide how we feel about using cockroaches in this kind of research.

Circles can be found everywhere in the natural world, but with no exact way to measure (测量) thc. They are very mysterious (神秘的) and might never be completely understood. When you take the distance around a circle and divide it by the distance across a circle, you will always get Pi. While Pi is about 3. 14 when round ed, it is endlessly long. With the help of computers, mathematicians (数学家) have been able to work Pi out to over a trillion decimal places (小数点后万亿位). This makes Pi mysterious, even to the most famous mathematicians.

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14, since the way we write this date, 3/14, looks just like Pi when rounded. In 2009, U.S. Congress voted to formally make March 14 Pi Day. Certain parts of the world — places where March 14 is written as 14/3 — will instead celebrate Pi Approximation Day which takes place on July 22nd because of the division (除法) result of 22/7.

Pi has appeared in movies, comics, music, and more. "In modern movies, any time the filmmaker wants to create a sense of mystery, the  symbol Pi is used," says Blatner. People also love working to remember the digits ( 数 位 ) of Pi and competing against  others to  see who can remember most. The Guinness World Record for remembering the most digits  of Pi is  held by  Lu  Chao  of China, who successfully remembered Pi to nearly 67,000 decimal places.

Above all, Pi Day is about having fun with the number, according to Blatner. People will celebrate Pi Day by eating pie and throwing pie, and with fun Pi-related games. Princeton, New Jersey holds a series of Pi-related festivities. Events this year include a surprise birthday party for Albert Einstein whose birthday also falls on March 14, and a "Walk a Pi Event" where participants will walk 3. 14 miles together. Just like the number itself, the possibilities for Pi Day are truly endless.

 How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?

 Shyness means feeling worried or afraid when you' re around other people. Experts(专家) have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention(注意). Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences(经历).

It's OK if it takes you a minute to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It's just a problem of how much.

 Most people have red faces and talk in broken language when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won't go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay for their food. Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they hardly go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.

 If shyness doesn't stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn't a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.

 You see, being shy isn't all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There's nothing to be afraid of.

Different people may have different hobbies. I think hobbies can help us relax and learn more things. I have four good friends. They all have their hobbies.
