Do you know guide dogs? Guide dogs are usually very (聪明).They have long acted as the"eyes"of (失明) people. Most of them can't get around without the help of a well-trained guide dog. (训练) guide dogs is a difficult task, but thanks to The Seeing Eye, we're able to get the most out of the four-legged friends.
The Seeing Eye is the world's (最老) guide dog school. They (养育) and train guide dogs.
When Seeing Eye puppies are 7 or 8 weeks old, they are delivered to the homes of volunteer puppy raisers. They teach the puppies basic manners and commands (命令), and take them out to (大街) and on public transport.
When the puppies are 13 to 19 (月) old, the raisers return them to The Seeing Eye. (每个) dog is assigned (分配) to a Seeing Eye instructor and it will be trained for about 4 months.
Once the four-month training (结束), the instructors will train the dogs with their new owners for 18 to 25 days.
"Training a guide dog (要求) lots of work and patience, but it's well worth the effort,"says Emily Foster, who works for The Seeing Eye."I feel happy every time I see a working guide dog in the street."
Did you know that cigarette butts(烟头) are the most common form of rubbish in our lives? People throw about 4.5 trillion(万亿) of them into the environment every year. Now, Dutch company TechTics plans to help solve the cigarette problem with its BeachBot (BB).{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Even part of the butt hidden in the sand can be found. At just 80 centimeters wide, BB has four wheels, two cameras and two arms to pick up cigarette butts. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Once it finds cigarette butts, BB just needs to place them into a bin(垃圾箱) that it carries. After it finishes cleaning, people deal with the waste properly.
However, BB still needs help to tell the difference between things like a cigarette butt and a small seashell(海贝壳).{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Using this app, anyone with a smartphone can send BB photos of cigarette butts to help the robot learn to know them. Besides that, TechTics works on a pair of smaller robots that can look for cigarette butts. They tell the larger robot where the butts are so it can pick them up.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#}But while the robot works well without wasting time, TechTics wants to get people to litter less. If people stop throwing their cigarette butts onto the beach, robots like BB wouldn't be necessary.
