Valentine's Day is a very old holiday. It goes back to the times of Ancient Rome(古罗马). One of the characters we often see on Valentine's Day is Cupid. He was the son of Venus, the goddess of love. He shoots people with arrows(箭) of love. When a man and a woman are hit by his arrows, they will fall in love. 

Today people celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14. If a man and a woman are in love, they will give each other gifts. The most popular gifts are flowers(especially roses) and chocolates. Couples may also go to a restaurant for a very nice dinner or plan something else romantic. 

In the United States, Valentine's Day is not just for lovers. Children make special Valentine's cards for their classmates. Families and friends may give candy or other small gifts to each other. It can be a fun day. 

You may not realize that you are doing much more than just studying when you are at school. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But this is not always easy. What can you do if you just don't like one of your classmates？

If you discover that you have problems getting along with your classmates or friends，the most important thing to learn is tolerance（宽容）. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}We can not change the way that other people do things，so it is important to learn to live happily with them. Tolerance will make everyone get on better with each other. Getting to know someone may help you understand why they do things differently. Something different doesn't exactly mean that is bad. Tolerance teaches us to keep an even（温和的） temper and open mind.

①Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been making waves in the art world. AI image- making tools such as Midjourney and DALL-E 2 can now make amazing digital(数码的) paintings. How do they work?

②For DALL-E 2, the AI is fed huge collections of artworks. The program finds patterns(模式) in the pictures and, after a while, learns which features (特征) are important, such as people, animals, objects, styles, or colors. Then it can produce images that keep the key features and produce a good result. The app produces a lot of images at the same time but chooses the most accurate(准确的) ones for the user to choose from. 

③These days, anyone can go online or download an app to produce their own AI art. Just give the program a few key words and choose a style, and it will create a digital painting in the style you want. This means that anyone can now create art, even if they don't know how to paint. 

④Not everyone is happy about the growth of AI- generated (生成的) art. To some, it isn't art at all because AI depends on learning from only the information it is given. The AI isn't creating on its own. However, others think that AI is the same as humans and it is no different from any other artist. 

⑤Some people also say that AI art has no value because it is too easy. It isn't created step- by- step by a human. Yet the same is true of photography. Just as artists of an earlier age welcomed photography, some artists today are using AI to create unique works of art. These artists find that they have to work together with the AI in exploring and experimenting — it isn't simple at all!

⑥At the heart of this debate(辩论) is an important question: Will AI replace human artists, or will humans learn to use AI as a tool to create great art? Only time will tell. 

What an amazing horse! Even though more than a thousand years have passed, we can still feel the power within its burning eyes, orderly teeth and kicking hooves. Night-Shining White, now kept in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is regarded as one of the most important horse paintings in the history of Chinese art. Its artist, Han Gan, is known for his drawing skills. 

Born into a poor family in the early Tang Dynasty, the young Han Gan had to help support his family by working in a local wine shop. His talent(才能) in art was discovered by accident when he was sent to the poet Wang Wei's house to co llect payment for some wine. While waiting at the gate, Han Gan used a stick(木棍) to draw pictures on the ground and was seen by the poet. Wang Wei decided to help the young man to study painting. Because of Han's natural talent and years of hard work, he was finally chosen to work for Emperor Xuanzong. 

The Tang emperors were crazy about horses. At that time, the most common way to study horse painting was to copy the works of other painters. Han Gan's way, however, was different — he studied the animal itself. He often visited the royal stables(马厩) and even lived with the stable workers for some time. The horses, whether resting or moving, offered him a lot of ideas. The more time he spent studying these horses, the more his understanding of them grew. Day by day, Han Gan painted the horses, showing every de tail that he saw with his own eyes. 

Those who saw Han Gan's horse paintings were all surprised at his skills, saying that his horses could gallop(疾驰) off the paper. Even Su Shi, the famous poet of the Song Dynasty. expressed his admiration for Han Gan as one of the best horse painters with the words, "The horses painted by Han Gan are real horses. "

Do you know the marathon (马拉松)? It's a long running race of 42 km. The 2023 Zhuhai Marathon is on November 26th. Over 10,000 runners from across China and the world take part in it. 

It begins at 7:30 AM at Zhuhai Sports Center. The fastest runners begin running first, and the others run behind them. When they are running, they can see some famous places and buildings, such as Zhuhai Library, Zhuhai Opera House, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It ends at Lvyangwan, a beautiful beach park. 

It takes the winners about 2 hours to finish the race. Most people need 3 or 4 hours. Many families bring their kids to join in the running. They only run 6 km. They just run for fun, so people call it Fun Run. 

Running makes the runners sweat a lot. Along the way, they pick up cups of water to drink or to pour over their heads, to cool down. It's good for them to eat some bread, rice and potatoes after the race.
