Do you know some colors can increase our appetite (食欲)? Orange is known to be able to increase appetite and is often used for food boxes or bags in fast-food restaurants. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} There are few natural foods in bright blue.

Colors influence our decisions.

The color of a product can be the reason for people to buy it. Colors can influence the feelings of people. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} So knowing the relationship between colors and feelings may come in handy (派上用场). The use of warm colors in the advertisements or products can make people have a feeling of trust towards the products. As a result, the sales rise.

Colors catch our attention.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} People become alert (警惕的) when seeing red warning signals. The color red is able to catch our attention easily. So many warning signals that require attention are usually red. Yellow and blue are also used in traffic lights.

Studies have shown that certain colors can have an influence on marks. A survey was done among some college students. They were divided into three groups. Numbers in red, green or black were shown to different groups before a test. The results showed that students who saw the red numbers before the test scored lower than those who saw the green or black numbers. Cold colors like blue seem to have a different influence. They are relaxing and increase creativity.

What does wishing mean to you?

Do you like to make wishes? In the west, an old tradition is to make wishes with 1 . Because water is so important to life. People felt it was a 2 from the gods. So, they started throwing coins into wishing wells or fountains(喷泉). They must say their wishes out loud. This way, they believe the spirits(精灵) of the water will 3 the wishes and make them come true.

Disney's film Wish(《星愿》) 4 in November, 2023. It's about a girl and the wishing star. In the film,17-year-old Asha makes a wish to the sky.

In Australia, where I'm from, we like to make wishes in 5 ways. Playing outside, you see a dandelion(蒲公英). Pick one up and 6 its seeds away, then make a wish! Or you could throw a coin into a wishing well or fountain to make a wish. And of course, no one 7 making a wish on their birthday.

I would sometimes make wishes at Christmas. One year, I left cookies and milk for Santa Claus and wrote a note to him: "Dear Santa, please tell my dad to stop smoking. It is 8 for his health." On Christmas Day, I saw the reply from "Santa". He wrote: "Dear Maddy, thank you for the cookies and milk. As for your dad stopping smoking, that is something he has to do for himself." Can you guess who wrote it?

I felt a bit 9 that Santa couldn't help my dad. But it 10 me something important: only the person himself or herself can really make the wish come true.

The Chinese pingfeng (folding screen) is an ancient invention and traditional Chinese furniture(家具). Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The term pingfeng means protection from wind. showing its purpose at the very beginning. 

As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens usually appears a dragon. It's a symbol of light, growth and life-giving water. It also stands for nobility and power. The peacock, a beautiful bird, can be seen on screens, too. It's a symbol of everlasting life. Beautiful flowers, which mean wealth and good luck, are also chosen as a popular design of the pingfeng. All the designs carry people's beautiful wishes. 

Behind the pingfeng lies an interesting story. In the past the unmarried daughter of a rich family was not supposed to see or be seen by men except her father, brothers or very close male cousins. When an admirer paid a visit, however, she might take a secret look at him from a screen behind which she would be completely hidden. Her father would discuss poems with the young man and ask him to create one. If the daughter and her father were satisfied with the young man's poem and his looks, she might agree to take him as a husband. 

Today the pingfeng is back in fashion for its beauty and its practical(实际的) use as furniture. Acting as a moving wall or divider, it can be the perfect match(相配) for modern sofas and walls, which adds style to them. 

The pingfeng is more than beautiful furniture. 

①Foreigners like growing flowers in the garden and enjoy the nice smell in spring. However, Chinese people prefer growing vegetables and get a harvest in autumn. For Chinese, bottles, even plastic bags are perfect for growing vegetables. 

②It's said that there is a"vegetable gene (基因)" in every Chinese people. After all, they have farmed for thousands of years and gained rich experience in growing vegetables. 

③A group of parents of Chinese students once grew vegetables at Yale University in the  USA. This area used to be covered with weeds (杂草). To help change the situation, these Chinese parents worked together and finally turned weeds into vegetables. 

④Africa is such a poor place. Many hard-working and kind-hearted Chinese workers went there to help. They helped build roads as well as taught Africans how to farm. All kinds of fruits and vegetables have been grown in Africa. 

⑤The soldiers (士兵) on the islands of the South China Sea also created a vegetable garden through their own efforts. It used to be difficult for the soldiers to eat fresh vegetables on the islands. But recently, they harvested 750kg of vegetables on sandy beaches. Everyone was excited. 

⑥With the development of the science and technology in China, Chinese people have grown vegetables all over the world, from Europe to Africa, the days of planting potatoes on Mars(火星) will not be far away. 

A 15-year-old boy named Tim Brown got lost in the mountains. However, he was safe at last thanks to his amazing survival(生存，幸存) skills. 

One day in October 2016, Tim went hiking with his group in the Magaliesberg Mountains, South Africa. At first, everything went well. But at about one o'clock in the afternoon, he lost his way and couldn't find any other people. He was afraid at first, but then he tried to calm down. He knew what to do in such a situation. 

＂I should follow the river, follow the light, follow the sun and finally there will be buildings, roads and people and I could call home, ＂ he told himself. 

Tim kept walking. Suddenly he heard some sounds and ran towards them first. But suddenly he saw some baboons(狒狒). Unluckily, one baboon scratched(抓伤）his arm. He found some water to wash the blood off the scratches and walked on. Tim just wore a pair of swimming minks

(游泳裤), so he felt very cold. He tried to keep warm by covering his body with leaves. About 22 hours later, he finally met a farmer and was able to call his mom. 

After he came back, his mom asked why he carried on walking when it got dark. The little boy said if he did that, he would see her again. Nothing could beat his love for his mom!

 When people talk about the Chinese tea culture today, they won't miss an important person in the Chinese history— Lu Yu. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

 Lu was born in 733 A. D. in Tianmen, Hubei. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} During one trip, Lu Yu saw a spring (泉). The water was very clear and clean. When Lu Yu made tea with this spring water, he found the tea tasted better than usual. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

 Lu Yu is best known for his book The Classic of Tea(《茶经》). In the book, he describes how to plant tea trees, to process the leaves, and to prepare tea as a drink. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} According to Lu Yu, tea is cold in nature. It cures body heat, thirst, dry eyes, etc. 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} This is not only a healthy habit but also shows rich culture and history. In China, tea can be seen as a sign of respect to the old. People also say sorry to others by presenting tea for them. These different tea customs make up the rich and wonderful Chinese tea culture.
