Do you know what Oxfam is? Where was it started? How many branches does it have now?

"Oxfam" is the short form for the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief (全国饥荒救济委员会). It is an international organization to help the poor all over the world. It was started in 1942 in England during the Second World War to provide relief to war victims in Europe. When the war was over, Oxfam continued its work, sending materials and money to the poor throughout Europe. Since then, Oxfams have been founded in 12 countries, such as Oxfam America, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Hong Kong and so on.

Twenty-eight years later, a group of volunteers started Oxfam America. It was first in Washington, DC, then in 1973 Oxfam America moved to Boston. In England, Oxfam organizes many charity activities every year to raise money. It also runs many charity shops. The shops receive things donated by people and sell them to those who need them. The money from the sales will be used to help the homeless and the poor in different parts of the world.

Oxfam Hong Kong is a member of Oxfam International. Every year Oxfam Hong Kong organizes Trailwalker to collect money for the poor in Hong Kong and some other areas in the world.

It seems that on every street corner in the world, there is a fast-food restaurant.People everywhere are busy. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Around the world,$240 billion a year is spent on fast food. Yet, even though fast food has becomequite popular，there are many myths（荒诞的说法）about it，

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}This is not true. More than 2.000 years ago,the people of Rome lined up in the street to buy quick meals at small stands（摊位）.One type of their most popular fast food looked a lot like a modern hamburger. All through history, people have always eaten fast food.

The second myth is that all fast food is American. While many modern fast-food restaurants are American, some very traditional Chinese food is nearly fast food. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in fact,one of the most popular fast food chains (连锁店）In the US is a Chinese food chain, Panda Express. It has more than 1,600 restaurants in America.

Finally,many people think that fast food is always bad for them. This is true for a lot of fast food.However ,nearly every fast-food restaurant has some healthy food on its menu,and some fast-food restaurants also make healthy food. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} We can choose to eat healthy food. even at fast-food restaurants.

Every one of us, rich or poor, should at least have one or two good friends. Your friends will listen to you when you speak, will take care of you when you are sick, and will be together with you in your journey through life.

Friendship can make us happier. How can we find a good friend and get on well with each other? Here is some advice.

★Make friends with a person who is easy to get along with.

★Make friends with a person who has something in common with you.

★Believe in each other. This is the most important thing in a friendship.

★Even the best friends may have a quarrel (争吵) sometimes. If this happens, don't let your quarrel last too long. Try to make up with (和好) your friends soon.

Friendship is a kind of treasure in our life. It is like a bottle of wine. The longer it is kept, the better it will be.

Whenever we think about something, most of us have a feeling of words going through our minds. However, if you stop and try to listen to your own thoughts, you'll notice that they are not in order at all. It's easy to imagine that we think in the language that we speak, but this is completely wrong. Language can show the results of our thinking, but it's not the thinking itself. 

Getting the joke

Think about what happens when you "get" a joke: "I've decided to sell my Hoover (吸尘器). . . well, it was just collecting dust (灰尘). " Whether you laugh or not, you react (反应) at once. Then you try to put into words what the joke actually is. 

Another example is the thinking you need when playing a fast-moving video game. You might shout "Yes!"or "Got you!". But if you had to talk about all your plans aloud, your game play would slow down. Thoughts always come first and the expression of our thoughts in words comes later. 

Thinking in silence

Humans think about things without language all the time, and only report their thoughts in the language when they have time to do so. You can test this with a game. Read a word quickly, out loud or in your head. You'll find that while you're doing this, you won't be able to think with words, but you can still plan, reason and imagine, pretty much as normal. 

Smart minds

Just because humans don't need language to think, it doesn't mean that words don't help us. The real magic of language is that it allows people to share their thoughts with others. This means you don't have to face the world by yourself-you can learn from ideas created by the elderly. This lets humans develop science and technology, laws and stories. People can think without language, but language makes humans so smart. 

Have you ever been to Shuangyang District(区),in the city of Changchun?It is getting popular now because of{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(it)rural(农村的)museums. 

One of them is in Xinjia Village and its theme is Mahu Opera,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} traditional art form in northeast China. The museum has five exhibition(展览)rooms with about 2,000{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(object). Most of them come from Wang Songlin,a local villager. "By {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(give)them away,I hope to let more people know about Mahu Opera. Also,I find many villagers don't like art. This is also a good way{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(help)develop their interest in art,"said Wang. 

Another popular museum is the sika deer(梅花鹿)museum. Shuangyang has a history{#blank#}6{#/blank#}more than 300 years in the field of keeping deer.{#blank#}7{#/blank#} people there went through hard days in developing the deer industry,they made it in the end. Walking into the 7,200-square-metre building,people can learn about the{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(amaze)history and tradition of keeping deer. 

The Mahu Opera and sika deer museums are part of a project on rural museums in Jilin province. The project began in 2016. So far,91 museums{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(build)in rural areas in tho province. 

The rural museums provide a place for fun and help the villagers understand their history much{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(well). What's more,they will attract more tourists from cities. This can also help the villagers live a better life.
