    阅读下列短文,从下面每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

As usual, Amber was hurrying to catch the yellow school bus. Luckily, the traffic lights turned green as she was to cross the road, so she made it. When the bus passed the golden arches(拱形门) of McDonald's, they reminded her of a hamburger. She hadn't had breakfast that morning because the fruit salad on the blue dish didn't look delicious at all. However, Amber remembered that she was still on a diet. So now she was really in a black mood.

You may have noticed that several colors were used in the above story so as to help describe Amber's morning. In fact, colors influence your life more than you can ever imagine. Take language for example: You may describe a sick person as being "a bit green". To describe a depressed(沮丧的) person, you say that the person is "feeling blue". In short, colors do add interest to daily conversations.

Besides, colors can be used in many parts of your daily life. Have you ever thought about why many school buses and taxis are painted yellow, and stop signs red? Since yellow is the most eyecatching color, it can catch people's attention, especially in heavy traffic. As for red, it is the color which usually shows warning, as a result, some traffic signs use this color. For the same reason, hotwater taps are usually marked red.

The colors of a dining environment possibly decide how much you eat. Most fastfood restaurants are often decorated in bright colors such as red, yellow, orange and white for the purpose of increasing people's appetites(胃口). This is because bright colors are natural colors found in many foods, and therefore, able to raise people's spirits. Blue, in comparison with bright colors, is said to lower people's appetites because few foods are blue in nature. For those who are on a diet, blue dishes and bowls might help!

"Morning, Amber! What happened? You look a bit green," said Violet, Amber's best friend.

"Nothing … just feeling … blue," said Amber.

"Hey! Come to my place tonight. Do you know what I just bought? A Wii! It's red-hot."

Amber was tickled pink to have the chance to play with the Wii and said, "Sounds great!"

(1)According to the passage, if you are on a diet, what might help you?
A . Putting your food in a blue dish or bowl. B . Turning on a yellow light during the meal. C . Painting the walls of the dining table with an orange cloth. D . Covering the dining table with an orange cloth.
    【答案】
(2)Why are most school buses painted yellow?
A . Because it tells other drivers to prepare to stop. B . Because it helps bus drivers stay in a good mood. C . Because it can easily catch other people's attention. D . Because it is the color that most schoolchildren like.
    【答案】
(3)Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A . Amber looked ill when Violet saw her first. B . Amber ate up all her fruit salad in the morning. C . Amber refused to go to Violet's house in the end. D . Amber didn't catch the school bus and was late for school.
    【答案】
(4)What can we infer(推断) from the passage?
A . Amber was not fat at all. B . Amber cheered up at Violet's invitation at last. C . Violet didn't know how colors influenced our lives. D . Arches of McDonald's are painted gold only to make them beautiful.

Could you spend 24 bours without the Internet? I'm not sure how I'd deal with it. These days we all depend heavily on technology, you may or may not be surprised by the results of some recent research about the effects of online and digital (数字的) technology on people's lives. More than half of the people who were questioned said they'd feel "upset" without an Internet connection even for a brief period of time, which is, about 15-30 minutes when they were away from the Internet.

The scientists also challenged people to spend one whole day without using technology and then report back on what it was like. Some people were surprised that they could not even turn their phones to silent. Nearly fifty percent of them said they felt lonely when they weren't using social media. According to the research, it is harder for the younger people to give up technology. They said that the modern technology has already become a part of their lives. However, there are about 25% of people actually said they felt freer without an Internet connection. It meant they found time to do something they wouldn't usually do such as reading a novel. Some of them said they enjoyed spending more time talking to family and friends face to face.

So, what about you? As a middle school student, could you take the Internet challenge and spend 24 hours without going online? Or would it be a bad dream for you? Here we have different opinions from Chinese students aged from 12-16, maybe they'll be able to help you with your Internet use.

     完形填空

The key to learning a new skill isn't necessarily how many hours you spend practising, but the way you practise. Scientists have found that by simply changing your training method, you can keep your 1 more active in the learning process and spend less time reaching the required standard. People think simply 2 a skill—for example, practising the same piece of music on the piano or playing the same level in your game over and over again—is the best way to learn it. Instead, it turns out that there might be a 3 way to level up.

Recently, researchers got 86 volunteers to learn a new 4 —moving a cursor(光标) on a computer screen by pressing a small device, 5 using a mouse. The volunteers were divided into three groups, and 6 spent 45 minutes practising the skill. Six hours later, one of the groups was asked to repeat the same training exercise again, 7 another group to perform a different version(版本) that required a different pressing8 to move the cursor. The third group was 9 asked to complete the first training, acting as a control(对照组).

In the end, everyone was 10 on how they could perform the new skill. As a result, the group that had repeated the original(原来的) training did 11 on the test compared to the one that had had mixed training and trained in new areas—in fact, the group that had 12 their training method did twice as well as the group that had repeated the original training.

So how does that work? The researchers believe it's due to something called reconsolidation(重新合并), which is a process: 13 are recalled and changed with new knowledge. "Our results are important 14 little was known before about how reconsolidation works in relation to skill development. This shows simple training method changes can 15 more rapid and better skill gains, " said Celnik.

①Have you ever wondered why we can't control those sudden "achoo" moments?

Welcome to the unusual world of sneezes (打喷嚏). Here is some interesting knowledge about it.

②First, it all starts with a tickle (痒). Whether it's dust, pepper, or a sudden ray of sunshine, as long as your body thinks it might be something harmful, your brain gets a warning that it's time to sneeze. It's like the first sound in a sneezing concert. What's more, a sneeze is like a small pop. It can travel up to 100 miles per hour (160 km per hour)! Imagine your sneeze going past at the speed of a racing car. It's your nose's way of saying, ""

③After a sneeze, we often say "bless you". It's believed to stop you from evil spirits who're trying to get into your body during a sneeze. So, every "bless you" is like a mini exorcism (驱邪) for your nose. Also, one sneeze can start a chain reaction. Sneezes are a bit like a kind of disease which can spread from one to another. For example, once one person starts, it's hard for others not to join in. It's the social side of sneezing!

④Finally, did you know that some people close their eyes without thinking anything when they sneeze? It's like a built-n part of your body, and scientists aren't sure why it happens.

⑤All in all, after knowing the unusual world of sneezes, we should let it be. The next time you feel a tickle in your nose and the feeling to sneeze, just accept it. It's not just a sneeze. Instead, it's an unusual, uncontrollable performance brought to you by the one and only, your fantastic nose!

When visiting the southern Chinese city of Liuzhou, the first thing people notice is quietness. What is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(找不到的) is the continuous noise of fuel vehicles(燃油车辆) in most big cities. It is because {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (差不多)50% of the cars sold in Liuzhou in 2022 were electric vehicles (EVs, 电动汽车), making the city of about four hundred {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (百万) people the biggest EV market in the world. Not only that, the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(自然的) environment of the city is also wonderful.

Liuzhou' s first move was to let people know more about EVs. SAIC-GM-Wuling carried out a free 10-month test-drive plan in 2017. More than 15,000 people took the carmaker' s Baojun E100 for a trial. The trial was so popular that {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (机会) ran out within minutes, and 70% of test-drivers bought one of the vehicles. Wuling then studied people's needs and driving habits to{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(提升) their products.

At the beginning, people had many worries about EVs, such as safety or the problem about charging. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (事实上), it's very comfortable to use EVs. Free parking and tens of thousands of charge points are on hand for drivers. People have realized not only does it save money and {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(能源) to drive electric cars but also there are many charge points for convenience. Besides, the air is becoming cleaner after more and more EVs hit the road.

     阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。

Do you often ask questions? Children are known for wanting answers to many questions because curiosity (好奇心) is part of human nature.

As we all know, curiosity has many good points. Many great discoveries (发现) in history were made by curious people. People wondered how things worked and how work could be done more quickly. Thanks to their curiosity, people now know a lot more about the world and have useful technology to help them. Curiosity can still help you in the classroom. If you develop the curiosity of learning, classes will become more interesting and you will do well in schoolwork. Even if you're no longer a student, curiosity will make you a great worker.

★     Luckily, curiosity is a skill that can be improved. Often, the more you learn about a topic, the more interesting it becomes. To improve your curiosity, get information from as many sources (来源) as possible, when you learn about a topic. At the same time, read all kinds of books, watch or listen to speeches and ask questions.

Don't assume you already know everything. Remember, everyone knows something that you don't know. Find out what it is, and ask about it. This lets you learn something and makes the other people happy by sharing their knowledge. Let's try to become people who are full of curiosity.
