Dear Linda,

"The only constant (不变的) in life is change." Have you heard about it before? It means that life is always changing and bringing us new challenges.

I've experienced it many times throughout my life. New teachers, new coworkers…it can be difficult to deal with sometimes. And not all change is good. It can be frustrating (令人沮丧的) to get used to new situations.

However, I do have some suggestions. First, you can talk with your teacher after class and discuss your problem. Do make sure to be polite when you do this – it's not necessarily your teacher's fault that you're having difficulty with her methods. Try to find some common ground. Good teachers will do their best to make sure that all of the students in their classes can benefit (从……受益) from their teaching.

—Mike

Dear Linda,

You should know that studying English is important for your future, but not for your teacher. Try to talk to your teacher. If they can't help you, I'm afraid you will have to solve the problem by yourself.

I assume (假定) that this teacher is not the only English teacher in your school. You could ask other English teachers some questions during your breaks. You also can learn English outside of school, such as by taking an online English course. You can surely find a suitable teacher for yourself.

All in all, if you don't want to give up studying English, then you'd better work hard on it, no matter who teaches you. It's always a good idea to be optimistic (积极的) about any situation you're in.

—Zhao Xin

Do you know what the body mass index(BMI, 体重指数)is? According to the National Health Service, BMI is a measure(测量方法)that uses your height and weight to work out if you are fit.

Some cities in China have included BMI in the PE test for the high school entrance examination, or zhongkao. For example, Beijing in 2021 announced that BMI officially became a subject of the PE test for the zhongkao. Chengdu and Shanghai have also started similar actions. BMI in cities like Xiamen, although not included in the zhongkao, still plays a role in regular PE tests.

Zhang Yanshu is a grade 8 student from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School. He used to be overweight. "It was this summer that I decided to work on my BMI, " Zhang said. He started by running with his dad, and soon took a stamina(体能)course which trained him for different things like running, pull-ups and so on. "I think BMI and the events for the exam go well together. When I practice the events, my BMI gets better; when my BMI gets better, I feel more energetic(精力充沛的)doing the events. "

Zhang also paid much attention to his diet. "I ate brown rice instead of white rice, and chicken for meat most of the time, " he said. "It was for sure sad. " His BMI reached a normal level after four months of effort(努力)"My health and willpower(意志力)have seen a big improvement. "

Chen Kaifei, 14, also from Beijing said that BMI is also a problem for students who are too thin, and has caused some"figure anxiety(身材焦虑)"among students. "However, mostly I think it has a good influence, " Chen said. "Everyone has a better understanding of their body and health conditions, and I started to care about my diet and lifestyle every day, simply to keep my BMI at a good level. "

Meiyu, is from Turkey (土耳其). She is the youngest child of her family. After high school, many people decided to learn English or Japanese, but Meiyu decided to learn Chinese in university. She learnt Chinese for four years in Ankara University in Turkey, and got her Chinese name Meiyu there.

Meiyu fell in love with Chinese after going to university. She became more interested after she knew more about Chinese history. In the beginning, many people did not understand her decision. But they all said Meiyu had made a right choice when she graduated from university. Because at that time, more Chinese have been visiting Turkey. The trade between the two countries also requires Chinese- speaking people. "Being able to speak Chinese means more job opportunities, " said Meiyu.

And then she worked in Wuhan, China. Besides going on studying Chinese, she showed great interest in Chinese kung fu as well, so she spent her free time on kung fu training with her coaches. Not only could kung fu help improve her health, but its history and culture also attracted(吸引) Meiyu. Meiyu said, "The moreI know about China, the luckier I feel to have been here. But the truth is that fun and pain go together in the process of learning. "

After Meiyu worked in China for two years, her friends wanted her to stay in China, but her parents hoped she could go back home. Meiyu thought it was difficult to decide. "Even if I go back to Turkey, I will choose Chinese language education as my job, " said Meiyu.
