Once, there were two hard-working children, Che Yin and Sun Kang. They loved reading, but their families were poor and didn't have enough money to buy lamp oil (灯油) for the children to study at night. How did they get over the difficulty? Here are their stories.

Che Yin's story began on a hot summer night. He saw fireflies (萤火虫) flying and an idea came into his mind. He caught some fireflies, put them in a bag and hung it up as a lamp. He spent all of his summer nights reading like this.

The other story happened in winter. Sun Kang woke up on a cold night. He saw the moon shine so brightly (明亮地) on the snow and it made the night brighter. "I can read with it!" he thought. So he took his books outside and read, even though it was very cold. 

Later, Che Yin and Sun Kang became successful. Their stories were turned into Chinese words "nangying yingxue". Difficulties cannot stop young minds from learning. If there is a will, there is always light on the road to knowledge (知识).

A serious earthquake can be a terrible experience, and it is easy to forget safety rules in disorder(混乱). Fortunately, most earthquake safety rules are common sense, but if you forget everything, remember the following instructions: drop, cover, and hold on. Also, most of earthquake deaths happen after the earthquake, so remember that the danger does not end when the shaking does!

If you stay indoors during an earthquake, move away from unsupported areas and windows. Try to get into a doorway or another area of the building which is held up by strong beams(梁). Stay under a table or a desk only if it is very strong. Do not rush to lifts, because it is far safer to stay where you are. Cover your head with your arms around it and curl(蜷缩) into a ball, and wait for the shaking to stop. 

If you stay outdoors during an earthquake, move to an open area. Don't move to buildings, electric poles or other objects which may fall and hurt you during an earthquake. Protect your head and stay low to the ground till the shaking ends and it is safe to move. 

After an earthquake, many buildings are less strong, although they appear safe. If you stay indoors, move people from the building quickly and help the disabled or people who get hurt. Once outdoors, move away from the building so that if it falls down, you will not be hurt. Wait till public safety officials tell you that it is safe to stay indoors. By planning ahead and keeping calm during an earthquake, you can greatly increase your chances of survival without getting hurt. 

"Travelling by subway is much faster. Not only does it take me a few minutes to get to my office, but also I don't worry about the traffic jam," a traveller said.

A lot of people like taking the subway. It is a kind of popular way and makes our daily life easier. It has three advantages. First, it's fast. The subway can run about 80 kilometres in an hour. It's much faster than riding a bike or taking a bus. Second, it's punctual. It can help you get somewhere on time. Don't worry about the weather. It can arrive on time even if it is raining or snowing. During the rush hour (交通高峰期), there is a subway every five minutes. You don't need to wait for hours. Finally, it is comfortable. It is very comfortable for passengers to take the subway. You can find a place to sit or stand here and there. You don't feel cold in winter or hot in summer because of the air conditioners (空调). It can carry many people. I think most of the people like it. You will have a good time to take the subway.
