It has been nearly 5 years since Chang'e-4, a Chinese spacecraft, made the first soft landing on the far side of the moon at 10:26 am on 3rd January 2019. It is the first time that a spacecraft has made it. The far side is the part of the moon that always faces away from the earth.

After it landed on the ground, the spacecraft took the first photo of the"dark side"of the moon, and sent it back to the earth through the Queqiao relay satellite(中继卫星).The scientists launched the satellite into space in May, 2018.

"What we know about the far side of the moon is from orbiters (轨道飞行器), from Russia, the US, European countries, China and India,"Andrew Coates, a professor of Physics at University College London, told a reporter. China sent Chang'e-4 into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in December,2018. Sending a spacecraft to the far side of the moon isn't easy, because the far side is covered in craters(火山口). Some of its mountains are higher than Qomolangma, the highest mountain on the earth.

What's more, we can't see the far side because it takes the moon about 28 days to move around the earth with the same side always facing our planet. Direct communication with the earth is impossible on the far side of the moon, so communications must go through a communication satellite. That was why scientists launched the Queqiao relay satellite.

It might sound like magic, but in February, a paralyzed(瘫痪的) patient was able to drink water on his own by controlling a special glove with his brain. The glove then acted as his hand. This was a success in brain-machine interface (BMI, 脑机接口) technology made by a team of Chinese scientists and doctors.

BMI refers to creating a connection between the human brain and external devices (外部设备), making communication between the brain and computers. For paralyzed people, BMI can allow them to move and do simple things by themselves.

On Oct 24, 2023, the team put a BMI chip (芯片) in the patient's head. The chip can receive neural signals (神经信号) from the brain.

After three months of home recovery (康复) training, the patient can now use his brain signals to control a special glove powered by air pressure. This helps him do things like drinking water independently.

BMI technology usually means putting chips directly onto the patient's brain. However, this project is minimally invasive (微创的), making sure the patient's brain is not harmed. So it is an important breakthrough. It also uses a wireless power supply(无线电源), so the implanted(植入的) device doesn't need a battery(电池).

Li Yuanning from Shanghai Tech University told CCTV News that BMI is now mainly used in the medical field to improve the lives of people with brain-related problems or speech difficulties.

In China, BMI technology is still in the early stages of research, with no products on the market yet. Some people are worried that tests may influence patients' independence and even who they are. Ethical concerns(伦理问题) related to BMI also need to be addressed. These include whether the patient has a clear understanding of what is going on when they agree to take part in the test.

A myth(荒诞的说法) is something that is not right, but many people believe. There are a lot of myths about the human brain (大脑).

One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we' ll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it's absolutely not true! The truth is that although we don't know everything about the human brain, we know that each part of plays an important function. Modern scientists think the"10 percent myth" silly(愚蠢的).

The other most popular myth is about being" right brained" or" left brained". According to this myth, people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it's also wrong. In 2013, a study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use both sides of our brains equally(相等地).

It's true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no fact that creative people use the right side more, or that scientific people use the left side more.

We' ve talked about myth, so let's look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain feels no pain. Second, about 75 percent of the brain is made of water. It's also the fattest organ in your body. Here's another interesting fact about the brain. Around the time you turn 18 years old, it stops growing.

Sunny beaches and a sky-blue sea coast make Honolulu a best place for holiday. Honolulu is not only a place of beautiful sights, but also a wonderful place of shopping. The world's largest open-air shopping centre, Ala Moana Centre with many international products is located here. However, it might take tourists lots of time to get there because of the traffic jam and the lack of subway system in Honolulu. Except for that, it is still worth visiting.
