Nature is all around us. It is the sky, the ground, the forest, the mountains, and the deserts. It is lakes, rivers, seas, plants, and animals. Usually, we say nature is anything that is natural, that is, anything not made by people. Even though it is easier to find nature away from cities, it is possible to find natural places in cities. These natural places have important benefits (好处) for people living in the city.

Nature away from cities or in cities is Important for a number of reasons. Plants clean the air and help take people's minds off busy city life. Along with all of these good things, scientists have found other benefits of nature. They have found that nature helps children feel better and study better in school.

One study involving (涉及) children in the United States has found that children who have many trees and plants near their houses feel happier than those who do not. Another study has found that children who often see and touch nature do better on tests in school. Other studies have shown that children who play in nature are more kind than other students and are not sick as much.

Maybe part of them comes from meeting other children. When a home has a lot of natural places around it (like yards or parks), children go to such places to play. While playing, they meet other children and often become friends. This might explain why children who live near nature are happier and tore kind Scientists have also found that children who have the chance to play and relax are able to study better. This would explain how nature helps children do better on tests in school.

A desert is a very dry land where there is hardly any rain. In the day, it can be so hot that you could fry an egg on the ground. But during the night it is sometimes so cold that water would turn into ice.
Many deserts are covered in sand. But some have mountains, rocks, or lakes that have dried up in the heat. The Great American Desert has cliffs(悬崖)that have been made into amazing and beautiful shapes by the wind. The Sahara Desert in Africa is mostly sand. The Australian Desert has red sand.
Sometimes it does not rain for a whole year in the desert. But there is water deep under the ground and some plants have roots that go very deep to find it. Other plants have roots that spread out a long way so they can suck up the rain as soon as it falls. One desert plant is the cactus, which has long, spreading roots. The cactus stores water inside its hard skin. This skin protects it from heat and cold. Camels are a bit like cactus plants! They store water too—inside their bodies. They have special fur which protects them from the sun during the day and keeps them warm at night.
Some other animals live in deserts, too. They have to be very good at seeing and hearing because most of them only come out at night. This is why many desert animals have extra big eyes or ears. A desert fox has bigger ears than a normal fox. A gerbil has huge eyes, so that it can see at night. It stays cool in the day by staying underground, like most desert animals.
Some people live in the desert but they always make their homes near an oasis. An oasis is where water comes from an underground river. Near an oasis, people can grow lots of plants and keep animals.
Life is hard in the desert, for people, animals and plants. But desert people like to live there.

Earlier this year, China achieved a new milestone(里程碑) in space exploration(探索). On Jan 3, Chang'e 4 became the first space probe(探测器) in history to land on the far side of the moon, People's Daily reported.
From Earth, we can only see one side of the moon. The other side has been a mystery. Scientists have long wondered what lies on this side of the moon.

Chang'e 4 has sent back photos of the far side of the moon. It is also used to carry out experiments, such as growing seeds in a low-gravity(低重力) environment. The data(数据) collected from these experiments could be used to help us build a base on the moon in the future.

The success of the Chang'e 4 mission(任务) is a main achievement for China's space program. It marks a new stage in China's deep space exploration, said Wu Yanhua, head of China National Space Administration.

China launched(启动) its lunar(月球的) exploration program in 2004, naming it Chang'e. Chinese scientists set three goals —“orbiting(环绕运行), landing and sample(样本) returning”— referring to launching probes that could circle around the moon, touch down on its surface and bring lunar materials back to Earth.

Chang'e 4 has realized the goal of landing. The third will be achieved during the Chang'e 5 mission, which is set to take place before the end of this year, China Daily reported.

Following the success of the Chang'e missions, Chinese scientists are looking even farther into our solar system (太阳系). China's first Mars(火星) mission is expected to be carried out by 2020, Wu said.
