One day, Jack's parents told him that his grandpa would retire (退休) after working for forty years. Jack said1, "I'm only seven, so it means my grandpa has been…er…a really long time!"

    His parents said, "Yes. There is a (n)2place in his heart that we don't know how to fill. That's why we are going to have a surprise party for him."

    Jack loved his grandpa and wanted to do something3for him. He remembered the business card his grandpa had given him two years before. He knew that his grandpa would no longer hold the position on that card, so he decided to build a new one for his grandpa.

    When the big night came, Jack was4. He put his gift in a small box. But he didn't want to put his gift together with others'. He carried it around with him the whole5.

    When all the other people6, he took his grandpa's hand and brought him over to a chair and gave him the gift.

    His grandpa smiled, "Well, it must be a beautiful7. May I open it now?" "Sure!" Jack said excitedly.

    As Jack's grandpa opened the gift, tears came into his eyes. He was touched by Jack's gift. Jack gave him the greatest gift he had8got! It was a business card with his new position FULL-TIME GRANDPA! Jack said, "Now your9job is my grandpa."

    "Well10do l get paid?" his grandpa asked, smiling. "As many hugs (拥抱) as you want!" With these words, Jack gave his grandpa a hug. "Well, I guess that means I'm the richest man in the world!" said the grandpa.

    You must have remembered the story from your childhood: an old man was worried about his sons because they always quarreled with each other. So one day he asked them to break a bundle(捆) of chopsticks tied together. Clearly, none of them could. But when the bundle was untied, they were able to break each chopstick easily. Why? This is because of the power of unity(团结).

    Dr. John Maxwell, in his book Success Journey says that every success is not something you can achieve alone. Think about it —if at the end of all the achievements, you find yourself alone, will you call it success in a real sense? It is known to all of us that success always belongs to unity. But we often seem to forget it when it comes to individual(个人的) success. Most of us consider our success as a personal thing.

    Your dream and your success do not belong to you alone. Even though you work hard towards your dream, there are people who are working behind you to make sure that you are able to give yourself a hundred percent energy.

    Do you think that it is possible without unity? Don't you feel that these people are doing their best so that you can be successful? And so, unity plays an important role, even if you are talking about your personal success. Just like those chopsticks, they can't be broken only when they are tied together.

    So, it is your responsibility to keep unity if you really want to be successful in your trip. Only if you always treat things and people seriously, you will succeed because all the things and people around you have connections in some way.

The way we spend our time can be divided into three groups or jars (罐子). These would be the necessary tasks jar, the voluntary tasks jar and the happiness jar.

Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks jar. We fill this jar with useful things, like making money, doing housework, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another jar with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This jar is filled with tasks like taking children to activities and cooking family meals. Those jars are very important. If we don't fill them each day, our family won't run properly.

However, we often forget to fill the third jar− the happiness jar. This is the jar that we fill with activities that make us happy. Is your happiness jar sometimes empty at the end of the day? We all have days like that. Between doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks, time flies by on some days, and before we know it, it is time for bed. 

How to make a balance(平衡) between different jars? You should plan your time wisely. At the end of the day, hopefully we've done all we can to make sure that our happiness jar is filled.

Could you spend 24 bours without the Internet? I'm not sure how I'd deal with it. These days we all depend heavily on technology, you may or may not be surprised by the results of some recent research about the effects of online and digital （数字的） technology on people's lives. More than half of the people who were questioned said they'd feel "upset" without an Internet connection even for a brief period of time, which is, about 15-30 minutes when they were away from the Internet. 

The scientists also challenged people to spend one whole day without using technology and then report back on what it was like. Some people were surprised that they could not even turn their phones to silent. Nearly fifty percent of them said they felt lonely when they weren't using social media. According to the research, it is harder for the younger people to give up technology. They said that the modern technology has already become a part of their lives. However, there are about 25% of people actually said they felt freer without an Internet connection. It meant they found time to do something they wouldn't usually do such as reading a novel. Some of them said they enjoyed spending more time talking to family and friends face to face.

They help you learn. When you have a hobby, you learn new things. You read books to get more information about your hobby. More reading makes you a better reader and a better learner.

They help you be relaxed. Having a hobby makes you feel good. Scientists say, "When you do things you like, the‘feel-good' part of your brain(大脑) makes you feel happy." When we feel happy, we will have no stress(压力). Too much stress can make people ill.

They help you make friends. You like playing basketball so you often play it in the playground. Then you will meet new friends from different classes. You like playing the erhu so you join the music club. You will stay with friends and enjoy the hobby together.

They help you learn skills. People with hobbies learn how to make plans and solve (解决) problems. Learning these skills when you are young can help you when you grow up.

So try to find a hobby, and stick to(坚持) it. It will help you a lot.
