As you research music, you will find music that is familiar to you. You will find music which tells of interesting places and exciting things to do. You will find music which expresses feelings that are often your own.
Music is an expression of the people. As you research, you will find music of people at work and play. You will find music expressing love of the country, love of nature, and love of home.
Music is also an expression of the composer (作曲家). The composer expresses his own musical ideas. He studies the materials of music and discovers ways of using them. He looks for new kinds of musical expression.
Music can suggest actions and feelings which we all share. We can enjoy playing and singing music, dancing and listening to the music of the people and the composers of different times and places.
Celeste Ng, a new writer, has gained recognition for her first novel, Everything I Never Told You.
Ng's parents came from Hong Kong, China in the 1960s. Ng was bom in America and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Shaker Heights, Ohio, in a family of scientists. Celeste went to Harvard University and earned an MFA from the University of Michigan, where she won the Hopwood Award.
Although her novel is not about race, the characters are Asian. The main character is Lydia, a teenage girl, who is the favorite of three children bom to a white mother and a Chinese-American father. The story is about Lydia's disappearance, and the emotions the family goes through as the mystery unfolds. The whole family deals with sorrow, regret, and exposed secrets as they search for their lost daughter.
Though the characters in this story are Asian, Ng says she didn't really want to include Asian characters. She was afraid people would think the story was about real people in her life. Because she grew up in America and doesn't speak Chinese, she was actually surprised that she included Asian characters in the book.
The book has taken off, especially on Amazon, where it won the Editor's Pick for No. 1 Best Book of the Year in 2014. Ng is still getting used to the attention, saying she is still amazed when people tell her they have read her book. With so many readers, it's safe to say this is a book you should read. But if you're looking for a simple mystery, this book might not be for you. Most readers warn that you should not read this book unless you're prepared to cry.

Whenever we're introduced to strangers, we make snap decisions about them according to our first impressions. Are they attractive? Or how much do they earn?
For most Brits, simply asking someone how much he or she is worth financially is considered very impolite. Thankfully, most people are kind enough to drop several hints(暗示) about their relative wealth or successful careers. They always post on social media about flying to a meeting for work. They're always wearing clothes with labels big enough to silently scream about how rich they are and how well they're doing.
It's a worrying trend, and I'm not immune to it. I've felt the warm happiness of knowing I earn more than somebody, and the baseless irritation of knowing that I earn less than another. I've checked into places while I know full well that anybody reading it will get jealous.
It seems as though self-worth is increasingly being tied to the careers we choose and the money we earn. A study in 2013, for example, found that nearly 17% of unemployed Americans were depressed compared to almost 6% of those who had a permanent job.
We need to stop placing so much value on what a person earns. Don't get me wrong—being ambitious is not a fault, and achievements should always be celebrated. But when people use their success to judge you negatively, it becomes a problem.
If you want to know what you're really worth, here's a tip: It doesn't have anything to do with your bank account. It's about how many times you've been there for your friends. It's about how many times you've been kind to a stranger. It's every time you did something unselfish, or told your partner you loved him/her, or treated someone with respect no matter where he or she was in his or her own life.
Snacking is a popular American pastime. When done correctly, it can be a good thing, helping you prevent overeating and keeping your blood sugar and energy level stable. But most snacks tend to be highly processed, low in nutrients and high in sugar. They can give you temporary energy, but very quickly you'll feel hungry again.
Put it on a plate.
We've all quickly eaten up a bag of chips after swearing we'd just eat a handful or two. A couple of chips can quickly turn into more when you aren't paying attention. Putting your snack on a plate will help you stick to paying attention to what you're eating, which will leave you feeling more satisfied.
The best snack is the one that provides carbohydrates, protein and fat. Carbs provide a source of energy, while fat and protein help to slow digestion, stabilise blood sugar levels and sustain energy longer. This nutrient combination keeps cravings(渴望) at bay and ensures you feel full and satisfied until your next meal.
Eat regular meals.
If you're unable to go more than an hour or two before reaching for a snack, it's time to look at your meals. While it's normal for some people to feel hungry between meals, your main meals should keep you full for at least two to three hours. All of these can help to slow down the process of digesting food.
Be prepared.
Keep nutritious foods on hand in case a meeting runs late or you're out and about between meals. Foods like dried beef, fresh fruit, nuts, cheese sticks and whole-grain biscuits all travel well.
A. Make it balanced.
B. Pay attention to your body.
C. Follow these tips to snack properly.
D. So you don't end up empty-handed when you feel hungry.
E. Before reaching for a snack, ask what you're really in the mood for.
F. Eating food directly out of a bag or box encourages mindless eating.
G. If you feel hungry sooner, make sure you're getting plenty of protein, fibre and fat.
I got up at 4 am to receive a call from my daughter who needed my help to get home from the snowy mountain. After I helped her get a taxi, I 1 I was out of cigarettes, so I went to the gas station up the street to 2 some, I saw a young man wrapped in a 3 blanket, trying to keep out of the snow. I went in and bought my smokers. As I 4 , this gentleman asked me for a cigarette.
I gave him three and left, but 5 I realized I had to do something for him. So I 6 and asked him if he wanted a coffee. He said "yes, please", so I went in and 7 him an extra-large cup and something to eat. Then I went home with an aching 8 , thinking of him being out in the cold, so I carried some things and went out 9 to the guy. Giving him a blanket and a jacket, I told him there was a 10 nearby where he could ask for help. I asked him to 11 me he would go and he said yes.
I came back home, and, after my 12 arrived and went to bed, I sat there, 13 about the guy at the gas station. So I made a call to the shelter and told the nice girl on the 14 that there was a guy out in the cold. Told that they had one or two beds left, I 15 got into my car and drove to the gas station. The roads were 16 but I knew that somehow we would be 17 . After I 18 drove the guy to the shelter and 19 him off at the door, he was very 20 and I was very happy.

Dear Mary,
I received your e-mail just now. Don't worry about me. I'm getting well with my research work in the lab. But to my great surprised, you say you will give up learning English. The reason is because you have not done well in it recently and you have lost interests in it. I'm afraid I can't agree with you more. I know it is difficult to learn English, but English is wide used in the world today. It will be a important tool in the future work. Besides, it is becoming more and more important in ours daily life. If you study hard, you would be successful. Do remember that where there is a will, there is a way. I'm looking forward to hear good news from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
