    What will you do if you can't eat everything bought in the canteen? According to a survey, what students waste every year could feed over 10 million people.

    According to Xinhua News Agency, the food wasted by Chinese people is about 50 million tons of grain every year, which could feed 200 million people.

    Food waste, which has become a global issue, serves as a mirror that reflects various cultural and social issues in different countries. In the West, for instance, consumerism, the belief that it's a good thing to use a lot of goods and services, is often to blame for food waste. Chinese people are well known for being hospitable and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food. On campus, a generation of single children is less aware of the food waste issue. Students nowadays are well protected by their families and hardly have any concept of how much toil others go through in order to provide them with the food they eat.

    There are over 925 million hungry people in the world, most of whom live in underdeveloped countries and areas. They don't have enough food to eat. Many children die for lack of nutrition each year in some African countries. And farmers work very hard to grow the crops. It's also important that everyone should think about how they can do their bit to reduce food waste.

A. Students' waste is extremely serious.

B. China, in turn, features its own eating culture.

C. But canteen waste is extremely the tip of the iceberg.

D. Students can never realize the serious food crisis.

E. Compared with them, some live in a different world.

F. So there's no excuse that we should waste our food.

G. Most of us would simply throw away any leftover food.

    Noticing the signals that people send out with their body language is a very useful social skill.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Fortunately, with a little extra effort, you can learn to read body language, and with enough practice it'll become second nature.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}The closer they are, the warmer they are thinking of you. The farther away that someone is, the less they actually care about the situation or person. If you move slightly closer to them, do they move slightly further away? That means they don't want your communication to be any more personal than it already is.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}And if they respond by getting even closer to you, they probably really like you or are very comfortable around/by you.

    It is worth noting that personal space is culturally different; keep in mind that what is considered close in one country is far away in another.

    Check their arms.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Though some people just cross their arms as a habit, it may indicate that the person is slightly reserved, nervous or embarrassed about their appearance and trying to cover it, or just trying to hide something on their shirt. If their arms are crossed while their feet are wider apart, this is a position of toughness or authority. If someone rests their arms behind their neck or head, they are open to what is being discussed or just easy-going in general. If their hands are on their hips(双手叉腰), they might be waiting, impatient or just tired.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. If they don't move further away, then they are willing to listen and accept.

B. How to read body language needs to be learned.

C. Some of us can read it naturally and some of us can't at all.

D. If their hands are closed, they may be angry, or nervous.

E. People with crossed arms are closing themselves to social influence.

F. Pay attention to how close someone is to you.

G. Some people tend not to move further away.

Some students see it as an important tradition and a unique experience that help new arrivals get to know everyone.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} There have been campaigns to ban or soften it in favour of more “positive welcomes'', and student organizations in some universities have voted to end the “mechoneo” completely.

    Chinese Americans keep many aspects of their ancient culture, even after having lived here for several generations. For example, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Members of the family lend each other moral support and also practical help when necessary. From a very young age, the old values and attitudes, including respect for their elders and a feeling of responsibility to the family, are passed from the older generation to the young. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    The high regard for education, which is deeply rooted in Chinese culture, and the willingness to work very hard to gain advancement, are other noteworthy characteristics of theirs. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} You can meet a person who'll become your best friend in future. You can also meet someone who'll give you a chance to get your dream job or somehow help you in life.
