How to Retain More of Every Book You Read

    In recent years, I have focused on building good reading habits and learned how to read more. For most people, the final goal of reading a nonfiction book is to actually improve their life by learning a new skill, understanding an important problem, or looking at the world in a new way With that in mind, I'd like to share three reading comprehension skills that I use to make my reading more productive.

    Make all of your notes searchable. Having searchable book notes is important for returning to ideas easily An idea is only useful if you can find it when you need it. There is no need to leave the task of reading comprehension merely up to your memory.

     When you go to the library, all of the books will be divided into different categories. In the real world, of course, knowledge is not separated into neatly defined boxesFor that reason, I try to consider how the book Fm reading is connected with all of the ideas that are already inside my head. Whenever possible, I try to combine the lessons Fm learning with previous ideas.

    Summarize the book in one paragraphIt forces me to review my notes and consider what is really important about the book. In many cases, I find that I can usually get just as much useful information from reading my one-paragraph summary and reviewing my notes as I would if I read the entire book again.

A. Combine thoughts as you read.

C. Describe the book to your friends.

D. Read widely if you want to practice the skills.

E. It increases the chances that you will apply what you read in real life.

F. Once I finish a book, I challenge myself to conclude the text in just three sentences.

Health Mistakes to Avoid Making When Traveling

    Everyone is talking about amazing travel experiences. However, there is always the other side of the coin. If you want to add more wonderful travel experiences to your life, make sure you avoid these health mistakes during your next trip.

Refusing injections

    At times you are asked to have an injection in order to avoid a certain disease before traveling to your destination. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} In many cases, mosquito bites lead to malaria(疟疾) and there are many other health risks that you may face during your trip. Refusing injections is the worst thing you can do to your health.

Eating out in the street

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Yes, it is cheaper and tastier than restaurant meals. However, when visiting a country where clean food and dishes arc not priority (优先),your stomach may not survive this experiment. Just because locals eat street food and feel healthy does not mean you will feel the same.

Drinking tap water

    Staying hydrated(吸入水分)is necessary, so is the water choice. Even if locals tell you that their tap water is safe to drink, it is best to choose bottled water. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. it is at least clean. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Google maps make our travel experiences easier since you can check out the place you are going to visit before you even book the ticket. Unfortunately, not all tourists take advantage of them. This is a successful way to really relax and enjoy the trip.

    Even an expert traveler is guilty of making most of these health mistakes. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, you will probably not commit any of them during the trip, will you?

    Read more. Make a habit of reading regularly. Pick books from multiple types and styles of writing to expand your horizons and really cultivate your creativity. Try to make time to read every day.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}This will help direct your reading if you're unsure what kinds of books to start with.

    History of Broadway

    When people think of Broadway, they may think of that part of the world-famous road in New York City that runs between 42nd and 53rd Streets.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} It is a billion-dollar industry that includes theatrical shows in New York and live theater entertainment throughout the world.

    New York's Theatre District has only 39 official Broadway houses. A play house must have 500 or more seats to be considered a Broadway theater.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Not all Broadway theatres arc located on Broadway. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, buildings on Wall Street and places such as City Hall may have served as smaller theaters, and other locations in downtown New York City also did.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Specifically, comedies and dramas often centred on then-current events such as women's right to vote, the Labor Movement, and war. Broadway developed again in 1866, and the Broadway musical was created. From then on actors entertained their audiences by singing and dancing accompanied by an orchestra.

    Now, Broadway is famous for various theatre productions and moving performances.

However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Try the following steps:

    Calm yourself.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.

    Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.

    Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your mounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.

    Don't forget to forgive yourself.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.

    Can We Stop Food Longing Through Imaginary Eating?

    Are you fighting an urge to reach for chocolate? Then, let it melt in your mind, not in your mouth. According to the recent research, imagining eating a specific food reduces your interest in that food, so you eat less of it.

    This reaction to repeated exposure to food—being less interested in something because you've experienced it too much—is called habituation.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    The research is the first to show that habituation can occur through the power of the mind. "If you just think about the food itself—how it tastes and smells—that will increase your appetite," said Carey More wedge, a well-known psychologist. "It might be better to force yourself to repeatedly think about chewing and swallowing the food in order to reduce your longing.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Visualizing yourself eating chocolate wouldn't prevent you from eating lots of cheese," he added.

    More wedge conducted an interesting experiment. 51 subjects were divided into three groups. One group was asked to imagine putting 30 coins into a laundry machine and then eating three chocolates.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Another group was asked to imagine putting three coins into a laundry machine and then eating 30 chocolates. Lastly, a control group imagined just putting 33 coins into the machine—with no chocolates.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}When they said they had finished, these were taken away and weighed. The results showed the group that had imagined eating 30 chocolates each ate fewer of the chocolates than the other groups.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Physical signals—that full stomach feeling—are only part of what tells us we've finished a meal. The research suggests that psychological effects, such as habituation, also influence how much a person eats. It may lead to new behavioral techniques for people looking to eat more healthily, or have control over other habits.
