      Can you help me? I have too many rules! I have to get up at five thirty every morning. My mom goes to work at 6:30 a. m, so I have to cook breakfast! After breakfast, I run to school because I can't be late. At school I have more rules. Don't be noisy and don't talk in class, and so on.

      After school, Dad says I can't go out with my friends. I can only go out with them on weekends. I can't have a rest after school. Why? Because it's a rule again—do my homework after dinner. I also have rules for sleeping! I have to go to bed before half past nine. Rules, rules, rules!

    Who are (A)_ at science in your class, girls or boys? Nowadays, girls start to show more interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects, according to a recent study by Cambridge Occupational Analysts (COA), UK.

    In the study, last year, (B) over 20,000 students who were in their final year in high school were surveyed. The number of girls considering university courses in STEM subjects has been larger than that of boys. Over a fifth of the girls surveyed said they were considering related jobs, (C)_ engineering and technology. Interest has also risen in mechanical (机械学的) engineering, electrical engineering and the sciences.

An American in Beijing Lives His Chinese Dream

    Wearing his bright red armband (袖章) and speaking fluent Mandarin (普通话), 62-year-old Terry could be taken for any regular Chinese man from a distance.

    His Chinese name is Gao Tianrui. He became interested in Chinese culture as a teenager when he read the Tao Te Ching by Laozi. At 18, he took a ship to Taiwan to learn Chinese. On the ship the captain advised him to have a Chinese name." He named me Gao Tianrui, based on the pronunciation (发音) of my English name," he said. Then he first visited Beijng in 1987 on business.

    Gao Tianrui lives in a Siheyuan with other three families. His neighbors are very helpful and friendly. Gao Tianrui once didn't know much about Chinese living habits and his neighbors helped him to overcome difficulties. Gradually, he could speak Chinese fluently.

    Having lived in Beijing for more than 20 years, Gao Tianrui has also finally achieved his Chinese dream: becoming a public security (安全) volunteer. Life as a"Xicheng Dama" has even made him an' online celebrity. Xicheng Dama is a club for volunteers, usually women in late middle-age, who roam (漫步) the streets of downtown at Beijing's Xicheng district. And now Gao Tianrui has joined their club.

    "I like helping others", he said. "I live in the Siheyuan and my neighbors and I usually help each other…This is where I live, where my friends are and where I call home."

    Jason Queally is one of the fastest men in the world on bicycle. But do you really call the thing in the picture a bicycle? Well, yes, Jason's human-powered machine. With its two wheels, is, of course, a bicycle.

Every year, a very important human powered bicycle is held in Nevada, USA. The speed of a bike is measured (测定) for only 200-metres, but players take more than a kilometer to get their bikes going fast. Jason Queally's fastest speed for the 200metre race was 103.5 kilometers an hour.

    At this year's race, Jason failed to reach the finishing line. He was speeding along at about 70 kilometers an hour when he began to lose control of his bike. When he tried to slow down, it began to smoke. Soon the inside of his bike was filled with smoke. He couldn't see, and he couldn't breathe. At 70 kilometers an hour, a crash could be very serious. Jason was frightened, but he managed to stop the bike safely. He would repair his bicycle and try again another time to be the world's fastest man on a bike. Better luck next time, Jason.

    Maybe you're surprised that these bikes go so quickly, but is it useful? It could be. Cars are becoming more and more popular, and they are very safe, comfortable and easy to drive, but they also pollute the air in our cities.
