One night, my family was driving back from visiting my uncle in the middle of a very bad snowstorm.

The road was normally two lanes (车道) going in each direction, but there was so much snow that it was down to one lane. We were scared, but we felt safe because my father used to work as a truck driver. He's a very safe driver.

We were all alone on the highway until three cars pulled up right behind us. They used their lights of the car and beeped their horns (按喇叭), wanting to get by us, but there was no place for us to pull over.

After a while, we stopped at a restaurant to wait for the storm to calm down.

The three cars behind us drove in too. They were full of young men. They were talking about how slow we were driving. One of them said loudly enough for us to hear, "If you don't know how to drive, you shouldn't be on the highway."

Soon after, the young men left even though the storm was getting worse. My father decided that we should wait inside, hoping the storm would stop.

After it cleared a little, we headed down the road. Finally, we came around a turning. We could not believe our eyes—the three cars were all in the ditch (沟渠)!

Dad ran to the cars. The young men were all okay, but they were freezing and very frightened. A police officer arrived and took some of the young men to the next gas station. We gave two of them a ride.

It was a very quiet drive. My dad turned to the young driver and said with a little smile, "You know, if you don't know how to drive, you should stay off the road."

The man was very upset. My dad smiled and said, "I was a truck driver for fifteen years and we had a saying: There are old drivers and there are bold (大胆的) drivers, but there aren't any old bold drivers."

The young man understood and hung his head in shame.

① As Daddy's only daughter, I know what makes my Daddy more fantastic than all the other fathers — his big hands.

② Daddy has smart hands that can make lots of paper toys for me to play with. His hands can also make my hair beautiful. That's why I feel happy when other students talk about my hairstyle. I keep it to myself for years. What's more, his hands can paint a second-hand bike to look new. I get one on my tenth birthday. His hands can cook a delicious and colorful meal in minutes. I feel interested in watching his hands work. 

③ Daddy's creative hands are also useful and hard-working. They can fly a kite high in the sky and get it down from the top of a tree. They can wash my white dress clean, which becomes my favorite one. To my surprise, those hands could feed seven children after Mom died (死亡) . It is his feelings that show what he really is, far more than his abilities (能力).

④ Not only are Daddy's hands great, they can also send me a note full of love. When I am ill, he makes me feel better. He will take a small blanket (毯子), warm it up and put it around my small cold feet with his loving hands. They seem to know I am feeling terrible before I can cry (哭). When I am worried about something, Daddy will often hand me a cup of hot milk and sit next to me. He will say, "The best is always to come, my dear."

⑤ The more I read Daddy's hands, the more stories I get from them. Daddy's hands are fantastic. They have the knowledge (知识) and power to move mountains. They make the impossible possible (可能) .

The Spring Festival is celebrated not only in China but also in other parts of the world. The traditional holiday is the most important to Chinese both at home and abroad. 

The United Kingdom

Celebrations for the Spring Festival in the UK started in 1980, with the first evening party held in 2002. Every New Year, people get together and have a lot of activities. They sing songs, dance to music, share photos with friends or enjoy films in a cinema. 

The United States

The Spring Festival has become a key time for Chinese living or working in the US. They join in a large evening party to welcome the traditional New Year. It is a good chance for people to build a circle of friends and feel that they are not alone because they share the same culture and values. 

Australia

The Chinese New Year will be welcomed with three weeks of celebrations across Australia. Many people come to Sydney's Chinatown or Lite Bourke Street in Melbourne. They enjoy fireworks (烟花), lion dances and dragon boat races. The celebrations are also a bridge towards better understanding between Chinese and non-Chinese. 

Singapore

The family dinner on New Year's Eve is an important tradition for Chinese whether they were born in Singapore or moved there from China. They place traditional food on a table as an act of remembering their past. Then the whole family enjoy the dinner together. They usually hold it at home because having it in a restaurant takes away the meaning of the tradition. 

Last year,61 companies in the Uk took part in the world's largest test of a four- day work week. The results were so positive that 92% of the companies were planning to keep the new schedule.

In much of the world, a five- day work week, usually from Monday to Friday is common. But in some places, people are trying out the idea of paying workers the same amount for working just four days a week.

The idea isn't new, but businesses have been slow to try it. They may be worried that they would get less work for their money, or that it could cause other problems. But the results of last year's experiment suggested the move might be good for both businesses and workers.

Last June,61 UK companies agreed to try giving their workers a four- day work week. In return, they asked their workers to try to do as much in four days as they usually did in five days.

Many different kinds of businesses took part, including online stores, computer technology companies, advertising companies, and even a fish restaurant. Some companies were small, while others had around 1,000 workers.

The companies found different ways of giving workers one more day off. Most companies simply gave workers Fridays off. Others chose Mondays, or had different workers take different days off. The experiment ran for six months, and turned out to be good for most businesses.

The number of days when workers were out sick dropped by 65%. On average,57% fewer people quit their jobs during the four- day work week trial. What's more, the companies made more money- about 1.4% on average.

How did workers do more in less time? Some companies cut meetings, or made sure they were shorter. Others used technology to help workers get more work done quickly . Some companies created a " focus time" so workers could work on just one thing without being disturbed.

In general, workers said the four- day work week made them feel less tired. About 71% said they felt less " burnt out" with their new work hours, and 39% said they felt less stressed. Most of the workers were more satisfied with the time they spent working.

 There are many clubs in our school. Different students join different clubs.

 On Mondays and Wednesdays after school, Sam and other students are in Classroom 301, and they take turns telling sto ies. This is good for Sam's writing and speaking. Sam also makes friends in the drama club.

 Susan likes English. Every day after school, she comes to Classroom 201 to join in the club activities. The English-speaking students there can help her with her English. They talk to each other in English. Susan gets some useful ways to learn English.

 Andy loves sports. He joins the basketball club. Every Wednesday to Friday, from 5:30p. m. to6:30 p. m., the teacher always shows some skills to the students. Many students like this club.

Laura wants to draw pictures. After school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, she has some classes in the art club. She can learn a lot there. Laura can also talk about drawing with the art teacher and her friends.
