Today more and more children wear glasses before going to middle school. They keep their eyes watching TV or playing computer games for a long time. Eyes are the windows of our hearts (心). We use our eyes to see everything around us, so we should know how to protect our eyes.

    Love our eyes. When we open (睁开) our eyes every day, we can see the lovely friends and parents, beautiful flowers and green trees. If our eyes don't work, how can we see the world. In our eyes, everything and everywhere is dark. It's like a house with no light (光). How important our eyes are!

    Relax our eyes. First, stop to relax 30 minutes when using the computer for an hour or two. Next, remember to do eye exercises every day. Then, looking at green trees also helps a lot. In these ways, our eyes will feel relaxed.

    Have good habits. When writing homework and reading, it is important to keep a distance (距离) of 30 cm between your eyes and books. Remember to use our eyes in a right way. Don't read in bed or on a moving bus. Eat something healthy for eyes, such as carrots, fish and eggs.

    Follow my advice (建议) and get good habits. It's time to say goodbye to thick (厚的) glasses.

What does wishing mean to you?

Do you like to make wishes? In the west, an old tradition is to make wishes with 1 . Because water is so important to life. People felt it was a 2 from the gods. So, they started throwing coins into wishing wells or fountains(喷泉). They must say their wishes out loud. This way, they believe the spirits(精灵) of the water will 3 the wishes and make them come true.

Disney's film Wish(《星愿》) 4 in November, 2023. It's about a girl and the wishing star. In the film,17-year-old Asha makes a wish to the sky.

In Australia, where I'm from, we like to make wishes in 5 ways. Playing outside, you see a dandelion(蒲公英). Pick one up and 6 its seeds away, then make a wish! Or you could throw a coin into a wishing well or fountain to make a wish. And of course, no one 7 making a wish on their birthday.

I would sometimes make wishes at Christmas. One year, I left cookies and milk for Santa Claus and wrote a note to him: "Dear Santa, please tell my dad to stop smoking. It is 8 for his health." On Christmas Day, I saw the reply from "Santa". He wrote: "Dear Maddy, thank you for the cookies and milk. As for your dad stopping smoking, that is something he has to do for himself." Can you guess who wrote it?

I felt a bit 9 that Santa couldn't help my dad. But it 10 me something important: only the person himself or herself can really make the wish come true.

A robot could understand your words and follow your instructions(指令) to do things. There're many kinds of robots. Each kind of robot has a different job. 

There are waiter robots. They can clean the table and serve the dishes. Household(家庭) robots do many things at home. They lift furniture, clean the room and even do some cooking. Sales robots work as salesmen. They can sell flowers, newspapers, and many other things. Recently, a Japanese company has showed a guard dog robot. It keeps the pet dog at home. And a company puts its singing and dancing robots on show. The robots are not for sale. 

In the future, we will have more robots. They will be a great help to our life. Maybe you can walk with your robot dog on the street. How interesting it will be!

Of all the Chinese 24 solar terms, Clear and Bright (清明) is the only one whose first day is also a traditional Chinese festival, the Qingming Festival. The words "clear" and "bright" describe the weather during this period. Temperatures begin to rise and rainfall increases, making it an important time for growing crops in the spring. As is known, it is a time to worship ancestors (祭拜祖先). However, here are some things you may not know about Clear and Bright. 

Spring Outings

Not only is it a period to honor the dead, but it is also time for people to go out and enjoy nature. As trees turn green, flowers come out, and the sun shines brightly, everything returns to life. It is a fine time to enjoy the beauty of nature. 

Flying Kites

Flying kites is an activity loved by many Chinese during Tomb-Sweeping Day. Kites are not only flown during the day time but also in the evening. Little lanterns are tied to the kites. And when the kites are flying in the sky, the lanterns look like twinkling stars at night. What makes flying kites during this day special is that people cut the string while the kite is in the sky to let it fly freely. It is said that this brings good luck and that diseases can be driven away by doing this. 

Cuju

Cuju is an interesting game played during this period. Ju is a ball made of leather with hairs in it. It is said that the Yellow Emperor first invented it for training warriors. Later, Cuju was used by people to build up their bodies when they were unable to eat hot food during the Cold Food Festival. 

Qingtuan

In the lower parts of the Yangtze River region, qingtuan is very popular on Tomb-Sweeping Day. Qingtuan is a kind of round green cake. In order to make the cakes, people mash (捣碎) barnyard grass (艾草) to squeeze juice from it and mix the flour and juice to a paste. Then they put fillings into the paste and steam them. Pretty and delicate, qingtuan tastes special.

In China, many people eat dumplings for breakfast, and even for lunch and dinner. Yesterday I decided to make this delicious food for my family. This is my first time to make dumplings, so rolling dumpling wrappers （擀饺子皮）and making stuffing（馅）were difficult for me. 

Step 1 Some meat, one cabbage and one carrot were necessary. 

Step 2 To go with the stuffing, Mom asked me to cut up the meat and vegetables into small pieces so that I could easily make the stuffing with those pieces by adding salt and pepper. 

Step 3 I put the finished stuffing in a bowl. 

Step 4 I was going to make the dough. （面团）

Step 5 I cut the large pieces of dough into many small pieces, and the roll them into thin, round ones. 

Step 6 I put the stuffing in the center of a dumplingwrapper one by one with a spoon， and then folded（对折）thcm up. 

Step 7 Put the dumplings into a pot of water and cooked thein for a few minutes. 

In this way, I cooked delicious dumplings. 

Although it was difficult for me to make dumplings for the first time, with the help and warm encouragement （鼓励）of my family， I found the fun of cooking and thought it was a fresh and interesting experience.
