With more and more rain falling, it's time for snakes to be active. Living in the city, it never crosses your mind that we might meet them face to face.

Most people are afraid of snakes. They may think snakes are dangerous and ugly. There are more than 2,000 kinds of snakes. Most of them live in mountains or forests, and in cities sometimes we can find them in grass or other dark places. Snakes can't walk or run because they have no legs or feet, but these long and thin animals can move very fast on their stomachs. Snakes usually have green, yellow or black skins, which make it difficult for their enemies to find them. In winter they hibernate in holes. They look for a hole to stay inside, in the ground, or in a rock or a tree. They do not wake up again until spring comes. Snakes feed on mice, frogs, bird eggs and so on.

Snakes play an important part in nature. We can make useful medicine with them. Without their help, the rodents (啮齿动物) will be out of control. But many of them are in danger of disappearing. Houses and buildings take up the land where snakes live. Many snakes lose their lives in traffic, and people often kill snakes for their skins or meat.

You can help a local community a lot by staying in local hotels and eating in local restaurants. This means that your money will go to local people, rather than to a large international company (公司).

① We can find ants everywhere— in the forests and mountains, in the fields, in the countryside and cities, all over the earth. But how much do you know about them?

② Their colour is usually yellow, brown, red or black. These little animals live and work in groups. They always build "houses", find food and raise babies together. The colony (群) of ants can be small or large. The number can be from just a few to millions!

③ Usually, there are three castes (等级) in ant societies. They are queens, the males and the workers. Queen ants are usually the biggest ants in colonies.  ▲  It lays (产) all the eggs, so the queen becomes the most important ant in the colony. A queen ant can live for longer. The males have larger wings and larger bodies than the worker ants. They can help out with the colony housework, but mostly they do not. They can only live for a few weeks. The queens and the workers are the winners by numbers. The workers do all the "housework"— from building and cleaning the "house" to looking for food. Workers usually live for several months. Workers are also good at building homes. They can build their homes in different places. You may find their homes under rocks or in the trees. How amazing!

④ One ant by itself cannot bring any danger to many other larger animals. However, they can beat much bigger animals in large groups. By working together, these brave(勇敢的) ants can protect their colonies against other animals. 

Jessie is an eleven-year-old student in Star Primary School (小学). It is a big school with many trees and flowers. There are 220 teachers in it. Sixty classrooms are in the classroom building. And every class has 30 students.

Jessie likes her school very much. But she likes the music classroom best because it is very special. There are some desks in it, but there aren't any chairs. Guess where they sit! They sit on yoga balls. Sitting on yoga balls is so fun. All the students like it very much. In every classroom there are many pictures on the wall and there are many flowers in the front of the classroom. They make the classroom very beautiful. 

Making the transition (过渡) from junior high school to senior high school is an important stage for teenagers. During this {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (时期) of time, they will face a great number of challenges as they {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (对待) with the transition. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (无论谁) takes this transition seriously will be likely to adapt to the new environment quickly.

Developing new relationships with classmates and teachers is also a new challenge for students. However, these relationships can be a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (宝贵的) source of support when students get into difficulties. Joining clubs and attending school events are good chances for students to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (与......有联系) with others.

All in all, high school life is full of challenges and makes students feel stressed and embarrassed at times, but it can also be a time of great joy and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (发现). So students should take time to appreciate the people and experiences that make high school special and taste the memories during their {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(一生).

Yushu, Qinghai Province, is one of the living places for black-necked cranes(鹤). Cranes have very long necks and their necks are black. That's why they are called black-necked cranes. Cranes travel very far every year. Cranes spend about 5 months in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (高原).

Starting in March, black-necked cranes will fly back to Qinghai. There are lakes and marshes (沼泽), perfect for them to live in. Year after year, black-necked cranes may fly to other places, but they always come back to the plateau areas.

Their life is difficult, because they don't have enough food and the weather changes very often. Black-necked cranes have a very small population. They are under first-class state protection in China. Local people treat the birds with love. In local tradition, they are a symbol of good luck, so they are very popular.

It is not hard to get along with these wild animals. Just give them a little more space. They can have a bigger chance to increase quickly. People in Qinghai are working very hard to make sure the black-necked cranes live better.
