Keep More Food on the Table

It's said that in some parts of the world, people are facing the problem of hunger. So what can we do to help them? Here are some suggestions:

    Cook from the fridge

Start with the fresh foods. If you have some in the fridge, use them first. Make a meal with what you have got instead of running out to the supermarket for something else.

    Learn to read the labels

“Best-before” and“use-by” dates are more important. Learn to know the different periods of foods and know how to cook them in the right way. For example, black bananas are proper for baking, fresh vegetables are good in soups, and bread that is not fresh can be turned into small pieces.

    Use the freezer(冷冻室)

The freezer can keep foods fresh until you are ready to cook them, and store the cooked foods until you're ready to eat them. It's also the best place for the remaining food. Mark the date of the food nearby, so it's easy to find the foods you need to eat first and you will never leave them there for too long.

    Shop with a list

Plan meals ahead of time so that you know exactly what to buy. Doing this helps reduce food waste because it's possible to buy too much of a certain food and then forget to eat or cook it later.

Do you like eating chocolate chip cookie? Thanks to Ruth Wakefield, they were invented by accident in 1930.

Ruth and her husband owned a restaurant called the Toll House. As manager and cook, Ruth kept very busy. One day in 1930, she was making some chocolate butter cookies. It was required that she should melt chocolate into the dough (面团).However, she found that she had run out of baker's chocolate. So she had to break some semisweet chocolate (半甜巧克力) into small pieces and added them to the dough. She hoped these pieces of chocolate to melt.

After the cookies were baked (烤), to her surprise, the chocolate had not melted into the dough, and her cookies were not chocolate butter cookies. They smelt delicious. They tasted sweet and crispy.

They were named Toll House cookies after Ruth's restaurant and are the most popular cookies in America today. About seven billion chocolate chip cookies are eaten every year, and nearly half the cookies baked in American homes are chocolate chip cookies.

Is your life ruled by love or by fear? Love and fear are two opposite feelings that shape our life in very different ways. Most of us are controlled by both of them. However, even a tiny change towards love and away from fear can bring more happiness. Here are some suggestions towards love.

    Cultivate Gratitude(培养感恩之心)

Gratitude makes us feel happier. If you remember to be thankful for the blessings(赐福)of your life, you will feel more connected to yourself and others. When you let worries go and have gratitude instead, love appears quickly.

    Test the Reality of Fear

Sometimes fear can be like a cloud that keeps out the sunlight. A simple way to deal with fear is to test its reality. Write down three things that you're afraid of. Then look at each point and ask yourself,  "Is this fear really grounded(基于) in reality? "I know when I do this, I often find that fears aren't reasonable.

    Take Action

Taking action is the best way to control fear. For example, if you are not feeling well, but you don't go to a doctor, you may imagine that you are having a serious health problem.

Once you've been to a doctor, talked about the problems and dealt with them one by one, your fear will become smaller and even disappear.
