The earliest films were short, lasting only one minute or less. People could, for one cent, see simple action of trains, fire engines, parades(游行),crowds on city streets, and similar subject. Soon, 20-minute pictures of news items were being shown in theatres at the end of the regular stage show. Later, films used a new method (putting the beginning of one scene upon the end of the scene before) for magical effects and to tie a story together. In 1903 a film was made about a train robbery. Much of the action took place at the same time — the robbers escaping, the men meeting and planning to capture them — and the scenes shifted smoothly, back and forth from one scene to another instead of unnaturally showing each scene separately.

This was the early successful film in which scenes were filmed al different places and times and then combined to make a logical story. A short time later, theaters showed for five cents a whole hour's entertainment of short films — comedy, travel, and drama. These films were simple and rough, and many were vulgar(粗俗的). Gradually, the tastes of the audiences improved as the techniques improved.

(5)、Which is the best title for the passage?
A、The Charm of Films B、The Early Films C、Changing Films D、The Success of Films

I was at the chemist collecting my daughter's medication and she asked me to go into the shop next door to get some energy drinks for her.She was about to travel on a train and she tires easily. The shop did not have what she wanted so I went to the garage near my home.As I came out of the garage I could see Margaret across the busy road. I thought to myself she-d just got off the bus and was on her way to her daughter's house which is next door to me.I thought I'd give her a lift to her daughter's house.

Then from across the busy road I could see the elderly lady I thought was Margaret going in a different direction down a different side street.I was surprised because I was really sure it was Margaret. In fact,I was so sure that I took the trouble of waiting to drive across the busy road to go to Margaret.

By the time I caught up with the elderly lady she was at the bottom of a dead end and looked confused as she didn't recognize where she was.It was indeed Margaret.Though I have spoken to her before and given her a lift, she needed reminded of who I was.Margaret got in my car.

We arrived at her daughter's house,it seemed in darkness and I didn't think Julie was in.I told Margaret to go and check.I had to take Lauren to the train station. If Julie wasn't at home I'd bring Margaret back to her own house.I went to my house and Lauren got in the car, then I saw Julie with Margaret.

Margaret thought I was kind to her today.Truth is though that her thankful words will stay with me for a long time.I'm so happy too that the first shop I went to didn't have what Lauren wanted otherwise I' d never have got this beautiful compliment or more importantly, to help Margaret.

Should you work out in the gym in the morning instead of in the evening? It all depends. Of course, there are advantages of working out(运动) in the morning.

You will increase your energy for the rest of the day. “Morning workouts result in better energy levels throughout the day and give you more mental sharpness,” says Dr. Cedrie Byrant, Chief Science Officer of the American Council on Exercise.

Here is another advantage. In 2017, health researchers found that exercising in the morning helps you sleep better at night. According to the study, in all cases, those who exercised at 7:00am experienced about a 10 percent drop in blood pressure that carried through the rest of the day. They also had about a 25 percent drop in blood pressure at night, slept longer and had more beneficial sleep cycles than when they exercised at other times of the day.

    However, there are disadvantages, too.

If you are not an early riser, getting out of the bed in the morning can be very difficult. Byran says that if you're not used to exercising in the morning and force yourself to get up, you may not put as much effort into the exercise as you would later in the day. Also, if you aren't careful, you can damage your sleep schedule, which can lead to insufficient sleep.

Besides, hitting the gym before work can cause a challenge in terms of scheduling. If you work a 9-to-5 job, getting ready for work and going to work can cut your morning workout short, Byrant notes.

To sum up, it has both advantages and disadvantages. If it suits you better to work out in the morning, you can do so.

Do you want to learn the material you're studying—like, reallylearn it? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}One learning theory suggests that if you overlearn, you'll gain the ability to do something without having to think about it — and eventually obtain more knowledge. Here's what overlearning is and how to do it.

What is overlearning?

Simply put, overlearning means studying something even once you're sure you know it. Don't stop reviewing or studying just because you succeeded in memorizing something. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

The purpose of overlearning is to make the task easy to ensure it is completed to a high standard with no stress. For example, a student wants to pass their spelling test which has 10 words. Knowing about overlearning, she doesn't just memorize each word, but also learns about the origins of each word. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Similarly, a teacher wanting to learn about teaching strategies might not simply read one book — they may read ten books, watch videos, attend lectures (and maybe even write their own book).

How do you overlearn?

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} For instance, when using the Leitner method, always review all the flashcards you're assigned on a particular day, even if you feel like passing over them because you got them right last time. Repeatedly going over material you know well is the key to overlearning and eventual automatic recall.

Schedule blocks of time in your week for reviewing materials you've already mastered. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Continually reintroducing familiar ideas to yourself will dig them deeper into your long term memory.

A. Overlearning has several benefits.

B. Then what you need to do is overlearn it.

C. Review material you already know front to back.

D. This takes time, but it makes the spelling test a walk in the park.

E. Instead, keep going, digging it deeper and deeper into your brain.

F. In real life, we sometimes want to learn more than one similar task.

G. This can be as easy as re-reading your notes, or as complex as taking practice tests.
