牛津译林版英语八年级上册Unit 7 Seasons 单元测试

根据短文内容选择正确答案。

Ladies and gentlemen, I returned to this year in a time machine. In the year 2500, we are able to travel through time to any year in the history of the earth. This year is your last chance to change your lifestyle to save the earth.

Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, a few people were worried about polluting the earth's water and air, but most people did not change their way of life.  Instead, they continued to pour(倒) dangerous chemicals and other waste into lakes and seas, to drive more and more cars and trucks, and to cut down trees.

By the year 2200, the earth's water was completely polluted. Scientists said that in the future there might be too many people on the earth. People could no longer drink water, and they had to use other types of liquids(液体).

So, by the year 2300, there were so many people that food became scarce. There was no water to grow food and all of the fish in the lakes and seas died because of pollution Terrier wars(战争) broke out between the rich and the poor. Scientists were working very hard to find another planet in space where humans could live on.

By the year 2400, the air was too polluted for humans to breathe. So we had to leave earth but only the rich were able to leave. Where did we go? Nowhere. And everywhere. You see scientists did not find another safe planet, so now we must travel around the universe in our space ships. We are still looking for a place to call our home.

So, it is up to you to change history. There is still hope. You must change your lifestyle now, before it is too late.

根据短文理解完成下列各题。
March 16 is World Sleep Day. This year's slogan is “Breathe Easily, Sleep Well”. Its aim is to celebrate the *benefits of good and healthy sleep.
Fangfang, from Liaoning, just became a high school student last September. She gets up at 5:30 a.m. every day and goes to bed at about midnight. Fangfang feels sleepy all the time. “I want to finish all my homework first,” she said.
Sleep is like food for the brain. Enough sleep helps the body and brain grow and develop. According to the National Sleep *Foundation in the US, adults need seven to nine hours of sleep every night. For students who are 10 to 17 years old, a healthy amount is about eight to nine hours every night.
But many students don't get enough sleep because of early school start time and heavy homework. About 80 percent of middle school students don't get enough sleep, the China Youth and Children Research Center reported. For some students, they want to sleep early, but they keep worrying about their schoolwork and can't fall asleep quickly. For others, they may even have insomnia, and usually they have to ask the doctors for help.
These sleeping problems greatly *affect people's life. Some doctors found out that *lack of sleep for teenagers lead to poor grades. Students without enough sleep cannot pay attention in class or do well in sports. Also, they often become anxious easily.
Luckily, with good sleep habits, it is easier to fall asleep. Some of these good habits include *avoiding drinks that make people excited late in the day, going to sleep at the same time every night, and sleeping in a comfortable place that is dark, quiet, and neither too warm nor too cold.
More tips to get a good night's sleep:
Exercising during the day. You'd better do sports three hours before going to bed.
Don't eat big meals before bedtime. Drink a warm glass of milk. If you stay awake worrying about things, try making a list of things that you need to do before you go to bed.

Have you ever experienced the feeling of falling as you start to fall asleep? Sometimes you may come to realize this feeling. If so, don't worry. Many people have felt the same thing.

In fact, these muscle twitches (肌肉抽搐) in the arms, legs or other parts of the body are called hypnic jerks (入睡抽动) or sleep starts. And they are very common. Up to 70 percent of people experience them sometimes, Huffington Post reported. But what causes it?

There are some theories(理论). Some scientists believe that the feeling of falling comes from the body relaxing itself, especially if the person is anxious or unable to get comfortable. As you're about to sleep, your muscles become relaxed. But your brain stays awake. It misunderstands the relaxing of your muscles as a sign that you're falling. Then the brain jerks the body awake as if it's trying to protect you.

Other scientists believe that different phases of sleep might cause the hypnic jerks. When we sleep, we experience two phases: non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM). During REM, our heart rate (心率), breathing and nervous system can act irregularly (不规律地). If the body experiences flashes (一瞬间) of REM while entering sleep, these irregularities could cause twitches.

If you don't want to experience hypnic jerks, scientists have some suggestions. When you become deeply relaxed, you can learn how to reconnect slowly by moving your fingers and toes a little bit. Then start to move your head and open your eyes, while being aware of yourself as you get out of the relaxed state.

But experts agree that hypnic jerks, though sometimes scary, are harmless. If it wakes you up, simply roll over and go back to sleep. But keep in mind: a caffeinated (含咖啡因的) drink, exciting evening activities or stress may make hypnic jerks happen more often.
