A man stopped at a flower shop to order some flowers to be posted to his mother, who lived two hundred miles away.

    As he got out of his car, he noticed a young girl standing by the road sobbing (哭泣). He asked her what was wrong and she replied, "I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother and I don't have enough money." The man smiled and said, "Come with me. I'll buy you a rose." He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own mother's flowers.

    As they were leaving he offered the girl a ride home. She said, "Yes, please! You can take me to my mother." She asked him to take her to a new grave (坟墓), where she placed the rose.

    The man returned to the flower shop, canceled (取消) the post order, picked up the flowers and drove the two hundred miles to his mother's house.

    It's hard to make friends if you stay at home alone all the time. Get out of the house and do things that will put you in touch with other people. It's easier to make friends when you have the same interests.

    Don't be afraid to show people what you are really good at. Talk about the things you like and do best. People will be interested in you if there is something interesting about you.

    Look at people in the eyes when you talk to them. That way, they will find it easier to talk to you. If don't, people may think you are not interested in them and may stop being interested in you.

    Be a good listener. Let people talk about themselves before talking about 'me, me, me'. Ask lots of questions. Show interest in their answers.

    Try to make friends with the kind of people you really like — not just with those who are easy to meet. Be friendly to a lot of people. If so, you will have a bigger group of people to choose(选择) from and have more chances (机会) to make friends.

    Hello! My name is Wendy. I live in the city. My family doesn't have a car, so I go to school on the bus. There are four people in my family. They are my parents, my brother and I. We live happily together.

    At school, I study very hard. I am very good at English. I often help my classmates with their Chinese and English. I enjoy learning.

    I am a quiet girl. I like reading and listening to light music. I have some friends. We always spend time together, they are very funny and friendly. I wish we can be friends forever.

    In order to learn how the students in our school spend money, we made a survey by asking them some questions. First, we asked them how much money they spent last month. And then we asked how much money they spent on snacks, books, movies, computer games, phones, transportation and other things last month. Our maths teacher helped us make a graph（图表） of their answers as follows.

    I'm Anna, This is my sister Lily's room. It is always tidy(整洁). This is her desk and that is a chair under the desk. That is a bookcase on the desk. You can see many(许多) books and model planes in it. My brother Paul makes(制作) these model planes for her. Look at the tape player on the desk. It is white. Where are the tapes? They are in her bag. Customs on Eating

    Food in China and western countries is different. China has about 5000 years' old history. They may spend half of their time on food. Chinese people choose food very carefully. They only use. fresh materials (新鲜的材料) to make food. For example, they only eat fresh fish. Chinese have a lot of ideas for cooking. They can cook a chicken in over ten ways.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Western countries, like England or America, don't have fresh food because they buy their food from supermarkets which only sell stored materials (储存的材料).{#blank#}2{#/blank#}They are healthy for man's body. Western people do not have many skills for cooking, and mostly they only boil, steam (蒸) and bake the food. By the way, western people are very good at making desserts and chocolate. They can make very good cakes and chocolate{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    In China, the person who invites other people for meal would pay for the meal, but it's not the same way in western countries.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} They can afford it. They won't be happy if you pay for them. In western countries like America or England, people will always give tips (小费) to the waiter after they finish the meal in a restaurant. If you don't, the waiter will not be happy. In China this only happens in some top restaurants and hotels in large cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
