Mrs. Thompson came to the 5th grade class and noticed that Teddy was always alone. Also, he did badly in his studies. When she reviewed Teddy's past records, she find he was a good child at first, but he began to change when his mother got ill. Finally he lost interest in school after his mother's death.
Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and felt sorry for him.She felt even worse when her students brought her beautifully-covered Christmas presents. His presents were covered with some old paper. Some children laughed when she found a bracelet(手镯)with some of the stones missing, and a bottle with a little perfume(香水). But she said how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some perfume on her hand.Teddy stayed after school for a long time just to say,“Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my mom used to.”After the child left, she cried for quite a long time.
On that very day,she taught not only knowledge but also children. As she worked with Teddy, his mind seemed to come alive. By the end of the year,Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class.
A year later,Teddy left school. She found a note under her door, from Teddy, saying that she was the best teacher he ever had in his life. After that, these words were repeated in each of his letters to her.
Then after he finished college, Teddy wrote telling her that he had met a pretty girl and was going to get married. He explained that his father was dead, and that he wondered if Mrs. Thompson might sit at the wedding in the place for the mother of the groom(新郎).
Of course,Mrs. Thompson did. She wore the bracelet and the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together.
They hugged(拥抱)each other, and Teddy whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear,“Thank you,Mrs. Thompson, for making me feel important, and showing me that I could make a difference.”
Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back,“Teddy,it's not like that. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you.”

阅读下面短文, 从短文后所给的 A、B、C、D四个选项中选出能填入相应空白处的最佳选项。

I remember the year when I was seven years old. I 1 a pretty hair clip from a girl in my dance class. My 2 found the shiny clip was not bought by them. So they sat me down on the floor of our study and explained 3 whatI had done was wrong. What a bad end I would come to if I became a thief—people would not trust me anymore.

More than thirty years on, the lesson has reminded me a lot. I' ve never taken anything that was not mine away. Once, I left a store wearing a pair of sunglasses I'd tried on and then I 4 gave it back. But that made me feel 5 for months.

Though my childhood memories are not 6 , such moments when my parents told me good values are always in my mind. They provided a standard of good7 : to put myself in others' shoes and to control my greed(贪欲).

The social environment in the coming age 8 each generation's value, but families have the deeper effect on children. The right values from our parents can finally lead us to 9 .

I believe in truth because my parents raise me to do so, even though sometimes my opinions are different from theirs. I believe in 10 because my parents set me good examples. They cure the sick and visit the lonely. I believe in working hard because my parents devote themselves to the society. Good values from my family have shaped me. And I will pass them on to my kids.

"It's hard to say this, but I'll have to leave school in a few weeks' time, " said Mr. Thomas, standing at the front of the classroom.

It was early on Monday morning and Mr. Thomas' students were surprised at the news. All of them loved Mr. Thomas very much and they never thought that he might leave. However, Mr. Thomas reached the age when he was going to retire. After hearing the news, the class kept gloomy for the next few days until the class monitor gave them a small scolding (训斥).

"We should not be like this, "she said. "Instead, we should study hard to thank Mr. Thomas for being so good to us. " The class agreed, and they thought of an idea of having a farewell (送别) party for Mr. Thomas to surprise him.

On Mr. Thomas' last day at school, everybody brought a different kind of delicious finger food to class and put it in the middle of the classroom. They covered the blackboard with farewell messages. When Mr. Thomas showed up, all the students said "Goodbye, dear teacher!" together and promised Mr. Thomas that they would do their best in schoolwork in the future.

Mr. Thomas was really surprised. And he was really touched. The class, in turn, was glad that they did the right thing. After all, it was the simplest way to show thanks to their favorite teacher.
