    Everyone is aware that taking good care of our bodies can prevent many medical problems from occurring later. However, we often have less awareness of preventative actions we should take to help with mental health problems. While our mental health may be fine right now, many of us will struggle at some point. It's impossible to get through life without challenges, but our mental health prevention habits can help us get through difficult times.

    Keep active. The more active you physically, mentally and socially are, the higher the level of your mental wellness is likely to be. So go for walks and learn something new. There are many other ways to be active.

    Be connected. Regular involvement in social activities with supportive friends and family improves your ability to handle disappointments, and everything else life throws at you. But you can be involved in any manner; even volunteering for an organization can help you be more social.

    The nature of these activities varies widely from person to person. The key is to identify what gives your life meaning. Volunteering, coaching, teaching, etc. all can contribute to increasing your sense of confidence and satisfaction with life. Many activities can address more than one. The key is to make a plan and stick with it. If you are already struggling, begin to practice these ways to help your recovery.

Certain things confident people simply don't do.

They don't make excuses.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}That's why you won't hear them blaming traffic for making them late. They don't make excuses, because they believe they're in control of their own lives.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Confident people don't give up the first time something goes wrong. They will figure out why it went wrong and how they can prevent it the next time.

They won't wait for permission to act.

    Confident people don't need somebody to tell them what to do or when to do it. Whether it's running a meeting or going the extra mile to solve a customer's problem, it doesn't even occur to them to wait for somebody else to take care of it. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

They don't need constant praise.

    Have you ever been around somebody who constantly needs to hear how great he or she is? {#blank#}4{#/blank#} . They don't think that their success is dependent on other people's approval, and they understand that no matter how well they perform, there's always criticism.

They won't put things off.

    Why do people postpone(拖延)? Sometimes it's simply because they're lazy. A lot of times, though, it's because they're afraid of change, failure, or maybe even success. Confident people don't sit around waiting for the right time. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. If they think it's not the right time, they make it the right time.

A. They don't quit.

B. They won't lose heart

C. Confident people don't do that.

D. They are not afraid of failure at all.

E. They see what needs to be done, and they do it.

Making Peace with Your Parents

    As a teen, you're going through big changes physically and mentally. Your interests are increasing.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Here is the challenge: Kids need to explore the world in new ways, and parents need to protect them from the dangers that are all out in that world. These conflicts can easily set off fireworks in otherwise calm houses. Sometimes conflicts can't be avoided. But by paying attention to the building blocks of successful relationships, you can work towards making home a happy and healthy place for you and your parents.

    For example, try to find a time to talk when your parents are not angry, tired, distracted or hungry. A good time to talk is when you're all relaxed. Timing is everything if the conversation begins to turn into an argument, you'd better calmly and coolly ask to stop the conversation for now.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Listen to what your parents are saying, and repeat it back to them. This shows them that you're listening. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Respect is the building block of good communication. People who respect each other and care about each others' feelings can disagree without getting things ugly.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} How do you build trust? Trust comes by actually doing what you say you're going to do. Some teens find that doing fun activities with their parents can improve their relationships. Sometimes we forget that parents are more than rule-maker—they're interesting people who like to watch movies and go shopping—just like their teenagers!

    What do you do if you are trying your best, but your relationship with your parents continues to be rocky?{#blank#}5{#/blank#}You can find supportive adults, such as a teacher or a coach, who can lend an ear. Remember you can only change your own behavior. Your parents are the only ones who can change theirs.

A. You may consider seeking outside help.

B. And then you'll be able to accept what your parents say.

C. You can pick it up again when everyone's more relaxed.

D. Faced with the challenge, children don't know what to do.

E. And your desire to take control of your own life is growing.

F. It also gives them a chance to clear things up if you're not on the same page.

G. You are more likely to get along with your parents and have more independence if your parents believe in you.

    One of the big challenges that students face in applying to universities abroad is writing the application essay.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Admissions officers(招生负责人) attempt to get at what type of person you are, what motivates you, and what you feel passion for. In a single 500-word piece of writing, they attempt to gather all about you. So your task is to put the stamp of your personality on the essay and make yourself special.

    You can try and guess what the admissions officers like. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} The essay will sound empty and become another dull piece of writing, which admissions officers get thousands of each year.

    It is true that admissions officers aren't exactly looking for anything.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} If they ask for someone who has inspired you, it could be anyone. It could be a grandmother, a teacher, or even a character from a movie. A lot of people will say their dad. But since you really feel it, you'll have a lot to write about.

    There are some important things to remember. These admissions officers want good writers. You don't have to be Ernest Hemingway, but you have to be able to form an interesting story. That means revision and editing, cutting out stupid grammar mistakes, reading it over several times, leaving it for a few days and looking at it again.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Also, you should use exciting language and really make the reader feel the same passion as you do. It also means finding something unique about your point of view, something that other people might not think of. For example, if you want to write about your dad, you can focus on a specific anecdote(趣闻) about him.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. The essays you are required to write differ from university to university.

B. The answer is just as open-ended as the question itself.

C. Admissions officers love personal stories that ring true.

D. The essay topics all have something in common.

E. You can turn to famous writers to polish your essay.

F. Whatever you do, make sure the essay is as good as possible.

G. But that won't work.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} When a starving man gets a meal, he begins to think about an overcoat; when an executive gets a new sports car, visions of country clubs and pleasure beats dance into view.

    The many wants of mankind might be regarded as making up several levels. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    The first and most basic level of wants involves food. Once this want is satisfied, a second level of wants appears: clothing and some sort of shelter. By the end of World War II these wants were satisfied for a great majority of Americans. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}It included such items as automobiles and new houses.

    By 1957 or 1958 this third level of wants was fairly well satisfied. Then, in the late 1950s a fourth level of wants appeared: the "life-enriching" level. While the other levels involve physical satisfaction-the feeding, comfort, safety, and transportation of the human body-this level stresses mental needs for recognition, achievement and happiness. It includes a variety of goods and services, many of which could be called "luxury" items. Among them are vacation trips, the best medical care, and entertainment. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    On this level, a greater percentage of consumer spending goes to services, while on the first three levels more is spent on goods. Will consumers raise their sights to a fifth level of wants as their income increases, or will they continue to demand luxuries and personal services on the fourth level?

    A fifth level probably would involve wants that can be achieved best by community action. Consumers may be spending more on taxes to pay for government action against disease, ignorance, crime and prejudice. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}In this way, we can enjoy more fully the good things on the first four levels.

A. Then a third level appeared.

B. Human wants seem endless.

C. When there is money enough to satisfy one level of wants, another level appears.

D. There are several levels of wants in one's life.

E. At this stage, we now may seek to ensure the health, safety, and leisure.

F. Also included here are fancy foods and the latest styles in clothing.

G. Different people have different wants on each level.

    According to a sales report from askci.com on 2018's Double Eleven, the national shopping day, women's down garments were among the top 10 hit products.

    Statistics show that down garments have been popular for many years in both northern and southern China. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Especially during a fiercely cold winter, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, cares about being stylish?

    All you need is warmth — the very light from heaven, which down garments can provide you with. However, as living standards rise, more expensive garments filled with goose down, instead of duck down, have appeared in the market.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. What's the difference between the down from these two creatures? First, the down from mature geese is larger and thicker, which makes garments filled with goose down much warmer. Second, goose down is more flexible and fluffier than that of ducks. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, goose down has no strange odor. Geese are often "vegetarians" and eat clean, while ducks are omnivorous, which could give their feathers and down a strong scent. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

    However, duck down is still a good choice if you live in place where winter is windy, yet not that cold.

    If you still want be stylish…

    Although most down garments can make people look big and sloppy, you could choose longer ones for a slimming look. For colors, metallic hues are more fashionable and pair more easily with other street-style outfits in your wardrobe.

Moving to a new country—or even spending a year abroad—is an exciting experience. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Making friends in a new country is one of them. Here are some suggestions.

Network through personal connections. Most people don't jump at the chance to show a stranger around town, but that changes as soon as you make a personal connection—even a tiny one. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Until you do, you'll never know if your former classmate's brother's best friend lives around the corner.

Join a hobby club or a sports team. Committing to a weekly hobby meet up is a great way to force yourself to socialize. There are always hiking clubs looking for teammates. You don't have to master the local language to find partners. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} What you need to do is make an effort to start conversations or sign up for exercise classes.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Feeling lonely isn't just about not having weekend plans; it can make us feel like we don't matter to the people around us. Join an organization that helps homeless people or helps out animal shelters. You'll feel good about yourself and find an immediate sense of connection.

Talk to strangers. When you're the stranger in town, it's easy to feel awkward and out of place. The more you push past that, the more you'll find that almost everyone enjoys meeting new people. Talking about where you come from and what the weather is like is the first step to get to know someone.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A.Volunteer for a good cause.

B.However,it has its challenges,too.

C.So practice your small talk and use it often.

D.These are great places to meet outgoing strangers.

E.Ask friends back home if they know anyone in your area.

F.Every trip out of the house is a chance to meet the right person.

G.Exercising in a gym is another way to meet people with similar interests.
