阅读短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Do you know when Earth Day is? It is on April 22nd, and it began in the US in 1970. Earth Day in our country began in the 1990s. Earth Day is a good time for people to think about what they can do to make the Earth clean and beautiful, because now the environment on Earth is getting worse and worse. In fact, there are many things we can do to protect our Earth.

    Plant trees.

Planting more trees helps to reduce greenhouse gases (温室气体), stop the earth from running away and provide homes for animals.

    Don't waste.

Do not waste water. Use both sides of paper when you write. Turn off the light when you leave. Take your cup with you. Take your own shopping bags to the supermarket. Stop using the plastic bags. Don't use any disposable things. We should save energy.

Don't throw rubbish in the streets.

When rainwater washes over the rubbish, it becomes polluted. The polluted water flows into the rivers and seas.

Ride your bike or take a bus.

Too many cars pollute the air and waste energy.

Remember: Every day is Earth Day.

We should protect the Earth every day, not just on Earth Day. The Earth is our home. Let's do our best to make the Earth cleaner and more beautiful.

You must think a computer is the best thing in the world, right? You must think it works at a super speed and can do everything? Well, it's not! In fact, the brain is much more powerful than any super computer! Think about when a glass is just about to fall off the table. Your brain controls everything that you need to do to save that glass from falling. First your eyes check out what's going on, then tell your brain, and your brain decides how quickly you need to react(反应), and then your muscles(肌肉) go into action. That is just from your brain. No computer could ever come close to that!

The brain weighs just 3 pounds, but it controls everything you do from thinking, learning, feeling even to breathing and your heart beating. Even though the brain is just 2% of your body weight, it uses around 20% of all your energy in your body. That is a lot for such a small organ(器官). There are about 100 billion tiny, tiny little cells(细胞) in your brain. There are so many that it would take you over 3,000 years to count them all!

Your brain stops growing when you're 18, but it actually keeps on developing and learning new things. So your parents are really super smart! You won't be able to fool them! Believe it or not, your brain NEVER stops working. Even during sleeping, the brain works for long-term memory establishment(建立). It is realized that the brain is the second organ in the body as the heart that never stops during human lives.

So everyone should be proud of such a gift of nature.

What do you usually do on your smartphone? Send text messages, make phone calls or play video games? Now, thanks to a beginner-friendly programming(程序设计) tool, kids can do more than just play games on their smartphones-they can make their own games.

US high school student Samuel Ndungi spent a few months learning how to make apps(应用软件)for smart-phones.

"I was really shocked that you could do this on your own," Ndungi said "I thought only people from Microsoft and big companies could do this."

Ndungi took a class run by his teacher, Michael Braun. In Braun's class, kids learned how to use the beginner-friendly programming tool to program their own mobile apps.

This tool is called TouchDevelop. It puts basic instructions(基本指令) into blocks of code(代码), and kids can put them together like Legos to run games, stories and other apps.

With TouchDevelop, student Tony Huynh learned how to make his own games. "You get to put your own thoughts into the game, like the animals you want, the kinds of backgrounds you would like to see, and so on," he said.

Another student Shina Williams wrote a program with about 80 lines of code that paints a picture of his childhood Teddy Bear." It's your own creativity, your own mark(印记) of something that's put in there and it stays in there, " she said.

Coding is more than just a job skill. Children who learn coding also find new ways to think, create and express themselves.

Developing healthy eating habits starts from childhood, therefore it is important for parents to teach and provide children with a healthy diet.

DPHSS administrator of the Bureau of Nutrition Services, Charlie Morris said, "A healthy diet for a child always includes a lot of fruits and vegetables in the diet limiting the amount of simple sugars in the diet and high fat food and highly processed* food." This means staying away as much as possible from food such as chips, cookies, candies and sugary drinks, because all children need to have meals and the meals should be a well-balanced diet.

Community nutritionist* Thelma Romoso said, "The fruit, the vegetable, the grain, the protein, and also the milk, the diary product are all necessary in the diet for a child. Among them, the fruit and the vegetable should come first. It's easy for a mother to go into the two plus three concept* of fruits and vegetables or five a day." This concept means that there are at least two servings* of fruits a day, three servings of vegetables a day which can be served for lunch and dinner.

Morris also said that the child's hunger level influences how much is eaten and the parent controls what and when the meal is offered, saying, "Mom needs to make sure that the food offered is good food for the child to eat and she also needs to consider how active they are through the day. Snacks* are not a bad thing, so the mom should offer good kinds of snacks as well."

When it comes to preparing your child's lunch and snacks for school, make sure to keep in mind that the food you provide should not only provide enough energy but also be healthy such as fresh fruits, and whole grain bread. But parents must be sure to remember that a good healthy diet must be balanced with physical activity, that is to say, it is important that children get outside and run around and play and get activity besides eating a good diet.

A new camera made by a company named Netatmo has facial recognition software (人脸识别系统) that can tell parents at work that their children have returned from school, or that a package (包裹) has been taken to their home. It can also tell them if a stranger has entered their home.

Janina Mattausch is a product marketing manager for Netatmo.

"The common security (安全) cameras at present are not that smart. So, they can tell you if something is moving but they don't necessarily know if it's a human being or, ah, if it's your kid- they don't know the difference, so they will warn (警告) you all the time."

When family members enter a home, the new camera "recognizes" (识别) them and sends information to the owner's smartphone. The owner can choose to see the video then or later. But if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send the owner a warning that will cause an alarm to sound on the owner's smartphone.

That is what happened recently to a smart home camera owner named Damien. He lives in Paris.

"On a Friday I was at work, attending a big monthly meeting when my phone warned. At first I told myself 'Oh, it must be a mistake, maybe I have to set the system again.' —but the notice on my phone was telling me that there was a movement in my flat and also a face that the software did not recognize."

He watched the video and was very surprised by what he saw.

"I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on. I was watching it live on video. So I felt totally unbelievable, frozen. I asked a workmate to take me back home as fast as possible and I called the police on the way."

With the help of the video, the police found the intruder (闯入者) later that day.
