I just celebrated my 95th birthday last week, and people always ask me about my secret. Of course, it's important to eat right and exercise, but that's not much of a secret. I actually have quite a few friends over the age of 90, and we all say the same thing: laughter. Are we telling jokes all the time? Not necessarily. Are we watching funny movies around the clock? Of course not. Do we take the time to laugh at ourselves and generally try to keep things light as much as we can? Certainly. One of the best ways to make sure you laugh every day is to be around children or pets because they just can't help being funny! And what about those polite little laughs when your neighbor tells a joke that isn't really funny, but you laugh anyway? Those are fine, but the ones where you laugh with your whole body and mind are the ones where you end up tired and out of breath, where everyone around you starts laughing, too. My “senior” friends and I even came up with a nice round number: For each full “belly laugh” you have, you'll live one extra hour in your lifetime. Now that might not sound like much, but if you have one every day, you'll live an extra three or four years. I try to have between five and ten of those laughs every day, and so should you.

(1)、What is the talk mainly about?
A、The benefits of laughing. B、Different funny things in life. C、The balance of body and mind. D、Celebrating the writer's 95th birthday.
(2)、What does the writer suggest people do?
A、Watch too many funny movies. B、Spend time with children and pets. C、Tell jokes with their funny neighbors. D、Take part in birthday parties.
(3)、What's the effect of full belly laughs?
A、To live longer. B、To entertain others. C、To make the belly smaller. D、To make more friends.

Hello. I'm Jan from Mrs. Lake's class. My class wants to work together to help the public. We think we have found a great way to do this. Last month we did a class project on the highways near our town. We learned about the Adopt-a-Highway Program. This program brings people together to pick up litter along the roads. We think it would be a great idea for all students in our school to join the program and adopt a highway.

Adopting a highway is not like adopting a pet. When a highway is adopted, only part of the highway is cared for by a group of people. The group agrees to work every week to keep its part of the highway clean. Each group gets its own sign that has the name of the group printed on it. The sign is put up at the side of the road. This sign lets drivers know who is keeping that area of the road clean.

The Adopt-a-Highway Program is a great way for people to help their environment look nicer. Also, the government does not have to send out as many road workers. This saves money. Finally, people may try harder to keep roads clean if they see people, especially teenagers like us, cleaning them up.

We will need helpers to care for our adopted highway. If you want to feel great and keep our roads clean, please come with your parents to the meeting next week. We will meet in Mrs. Lake' room on Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. At the meeting, we will talk about which roads are the dirtiest as a result of people's unkind acts. Then we' ll try to pick an area to adopt and clean.

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Remember to keep our roads clean!

I still clearly remember that day. I was on the side of the road for about four hours with my big jeep. I put signs in the windows that said,“Need a jack (千斤顶).”

As I was about to give up, a truck stopped and a man got off. He looked at the situation, made a judgment and went back to take a jack. After about two hours, we finished the job with sweats. We were both dirty. His wife took a large bottle of water for us to wash our hands.

I tried to put $20 in the man's hand, but he wouldn't take it, so I went to give it to his wife quietly. I asked their little girl where they lived. She said they lived in Mexico. They were in Oregon now, so Mommy and Daddy could pick cherries for the next few weeks. After that, they were going to pick peaches and then go home.

After I said goodbye and started going back to my jeep, the girl ran to me and handed me a tamale(玉米粽子)for lunch. I thanked them again and walked back to my jeep. When I opened the tamale, what did I find inside? My $20! I ran to the truck and the guy rolled down his window. He started shaking his head, smiled and  said in English“Today you, tomorrow me. ” Then he drove away, with his daughter waving to me from the back.

This family, working on a seasonal basis where time is money, took a couple of hours to help a stranger while others passed by quietly.

Since then I've helped many people like the Mexican family. I didn't accept their money. Every time I was able to help, I felt as if I was putting something in the bank.

The World's Coolest Places

There's nothing wrong with a relaxing week at the beach. But travel can also be an education, a step toward empathy(共鸣) and international understanding, so for those longing to escape the crowds this summer, encounter new worlds and return with a tale, here're a few little-known travel destinations I recommend.

⒈Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands.

This coral island in the Pacific Ocean, site of nuclear weapons tests decades ago, is now brilliantly beautiful and the deserted white-sand beaches are lined with coconut palms and scattered with seashells. The island is a reminder of the redemptive(救赎的) power of time and nature.

⒉Potosi, Bolivia.

No city in Latin America is more beautiful than Potosi, Bolivia, where Europeans discovered a huge silver mountain centuries ago. Tourists can descend(下降) the silver mines to experience extremely hot and dusty tunnels, talk to the miners, get a glimpse of life image for Bolivians there and have new empathy for the miners.

⒊Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Maybe our family start at Victoria Falls, which wets you with spray, making Niagara Falls a backyard stream. Then we rent a car and make our way to Hwange National Park, empty of people but crowded with various animals. Zimbabwe has fewer tourists than South Africa, and there's less crime as well.

⒋Amritsar, India.

The Golden Temple, Sikhism's holiest shrine(神殿), is a delightful place to contemplate the draw of faith. A four-century-old temple set in a lake attracts Sikhs(锡克教徒) worldwide. Walking the circuit of the lake, with your head covered, and putting up in temple buildings can be a full experience.

If you're planning to go on a diet o1 if you suffer from serious conditions like diabetes( 糖尿病), knowing exactly what and how much you're eating is essential.     You've probably used calorie calculators before, and you know that they only offer general information. For example, a calculator will tell you the average number of calories in a hamburger, but it can't tell you exactly how many calories are in the hamburger. The same goes for nutrients like protein or fats. And this is what makes the new CaloRieco so special.

Displayed at a recent tech show, CaloRieco is a high-tech device that uses light reflection technology to determine the nutritional values of almost any food and also provide accurate calorie estimates. All you have to do is put your plate in the box-shaped device and wait between 10 and 20 seconds for it tc analyze all the food on there.

Once it's done analyzing the various ingredients(原料)in your meal, CaloRieco displays the number of calories, as well as the nutritional content on an LED display, According to Panasonic, the device is able to recognize the vast majority of foods, except soups and very dark dishes.

In the far future, robots live on Earth as humans but the population of humans is smaller than a thousand. This is a story of a repair robot R-62.

One day, a car came to the repair factory and a human stepped out of the car.

"Wow, a human! I have never seen a real one," said R-62.

"Humans are quite clever. They're able to do any action they want to. They're even able to harm other human beings or organize wars, which they have been doing a lot in the history. Also they don't even have to follow orders if they don't want to," said another robot T-59 quietly to R-62.

"How terrible it is! And almost all robots seem afraid of him and don't look at him directly," said R-62.

The human then sat down and asked if there had been any problems in the last 10 years and he only got a quick answer, "No, sir."

Then suddenly, R-62 said loudly, "I have one question for you."

The human said, "Yes", a bit unhappy for not getting "sir".

"Why do human create so many robots?" asked R-62.

Silence followed the question and he then said, "I don't need to answer questions from robots!" He then went into his car and drove away quickly.

"I really don't understand why humans replaced (取代)themselves with robots," asked R-62.

"Because they thought that robots were more advanced(先进的) than humans. They created us to support themselves," answered T-59.

"But there are so few humans on Earth. What they should do is take away the robots or at least make them stop doing the work which humans are supposed to do," said R-62.

"I agree. But we can do nothing about it. And now we have to finish repairing this car," said T-59.

    "All right, let's continue."
