This wasn't the way I wanted to see Rome. Sure, it felt  1 to spend Christmas there and stand in awe of the city's attractions. But life wasn't meant to turn out like this. 

I was supposed to go to Rome with my mom back in 

2012. However, life had different  2 . A week before our trip, I got a stomach infection, a condition that required a week of  3 . What's worse, my mom  4 a cough, which later proved a stage-four cancer. 

My mom spent the final months of her life5 the terrible disease though it was a losing 6 . After she passed away, I 7 a trip to Rome. And 8 , you never get used to a world that mom isn't a part of. You just deal with it because you don't really have a  9 . 

I spent two weeks doing all the things we had wanted to do. Maybe she wasn't physically there, but I  10 her presence every minute. Her presence also11 me that life isn't about the things we buy or the money that we have. It's about making 12 with the people we love. They never really 13 us since they are constantly influencing our lives in  14 ways. 

After my trip to Rome, 15 knew that my mom would always be there because she had forever changed my life in the best possible way. 

British rower Helen Glover is preparing for her fourth Olympic Games, pushing herself to the limit. Despite resisting bloodied and blistered hands and pale skin, Glover knows that physical 1 are just one aspect of the intense training required for the Olympics.

For Glover, the real challenge 2 the day-to-day tiredness and the constant 3 of waking up and training. With two gold medals from the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, her fourth-place finish in Tokyo was remarkable considering her 4 preparation. Just a year after giving birth to twins and four years after 5 , Glover made the bold decision to 6 in the Olympics with only six months of serious training. Juggling（尽量兼顾）childcare with her 7 schedule, she managed to reach the starting line and 8 miss out on a medal.

After Tokyo, Glover initially 9 her retirement but later changed her mind and decided to compete in the coxless four（四人单桨无舵手）at Paris 

2024.This time, her preparation is more straightforward, and her racing experience gives her an 10 .

11 on her journey, Glover acknowledges that in the past, her happiness seemed dependent on results and success. However, becoming a 12 has shifted her perspective. Now, even on 13 training days, as long as her children are happy, she finds contentment.

Glover understands that her decision to continue rowing is a personal 14 . Her growing success does not 15 her whole life, but she is determined to excel in the sport she loves and give her best.

I had a terrible experience last year. One night my younger brother, Chase, was driving us home from our weekly cleaning of the church. We were both getting 1 , so we picked up a couple of energy drinks at a gas station. Then we jumped onto the freeway and 2 home.

The ride was fine. My brother was focused, so I 3 my eyes. I woke up when we were close to our exit. But the car 4 turned to the right. I did not care at first because Chase often played jokes. Then I 5 it was not a joke at all.

I shouted my brother's name at the top of my 6 . He woke up from his sleep in time to slam on the brakes, though the brakes did little to 7 us down. We crashed into a streetlight, 8 us hit the dirt hill of the off-ramp (出口匝道).

Then I 9 something white and bright shoot toward my chest. It hit me and left me breathless but 10 me from the dashboard (仪表盘). The streetlight swung around, hitting two other 11 and then crashed back onto the hood of our car. One inch 12 to us, Chase and I wouldn't be here today. A kind man 13 us out of our car, and the policeman came to 14 us. They said there were no broken ribs (肋骨) and no internal bleeding.

Our dad 15 on the scene in his car and drove us home. From that day on, we never drove while we were sleepy or tired again.

71-year-old, Helen Lloyd Jones from Cardiff recently completed her first marathon and is encouraging others of her age to take up the challenge. "Do it. We only live once," she said after the event.

Helen took up running in her 50's while working as a teacher. After jogging alongside one of her students during a sports day race, Helen said, "I felt terrible, absolutely terrible. It was a wakeup call and I started to practise jogging."

Helen started attending her local parkrun, but decided she needed a bigger challenge to keep her motivated. Once the idea of running 26.2 came into her head, she was decided, and set her sights on running a larger race, using the support of the crowds to get her round.

Helen didn't tell her husband for the first five months of her training as she knew he'd be worried about the toll the distance might have on her, saying g afterwards, "The difference between the man who waved me goodbye and the smiling man who greeted me when I returned was a reflection of how much he had been worrying. But he is very proud of me."

At 71, Helen explains how she didn't do her training "by the book". After trying to do a long run, a speed run and a hill run each week, she soon found her body was not able to recover fast enough between sessions. Instead, she chose one long run a week with her local running club Pegasus and friend Sally, so she could feel confident with the distance. 

A proud grandmother, Helen is I now taking her grandchildren to parkruns and junior parkruns. She hopes that they will remember running with their grandmother when they grow up. Are there more marathons in her future? "I said I would only do the one, but have a feeling that if I got a place in London or New York... I might change my mind."

Last year I moved to a new city with my husband and daughter. So during the first months we were busy getting 1 . This place is very different from where I lived before and we had a lot of 2 .

Then things were running 3 due to our efforts. So we decided to conduct a small ceremony at home in 4 of our success in adjusting to the new life. After the simple ceremony, we still had some food 5 . Our daughter suggested that she go with her father and look for someone who 6 all these food.

Hearing the 7 of my daughter, my husband offered to take her in his car to the nearby areas. But after a long time, they 8 to find a suitable one. They were about to return home suddenly when my daughter 9 an old man sitting under a tree. He looked 10 , tired and anxious.

My husband stopped the car and my daughter 11 the man and handed him the food packets. The surprised person looked at my daughter and asked if those item s were for him. When he listened to the 12 answer, he smiled, thanked my daughter a lot and started eating. After a short chat with the man, they went back home happily. The 13 on my daughter's face made me feel 14 a hungry human was a correct thing. It added to our happiness — I had the 15 to conduct an act of kindness.
