My cousin and I took a trip by rail across Canada from west to east. Before starting out, we spent a couple of days in Vancouver, admiring the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sight). Then we arose early to take the train to Lake Louise, passing through the Canadian Rockies. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (see) from the train window, the mountains and forests looked {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (mass). We spent the night near the lake, where the blue water literally took our breath away, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} headed to Jasper the next morning. The beautiful scenery convinced us it was the most awesome journey we {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (take). From Jasper, we boarded the train bound {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Toronto. One of our first stops was in Edmonton, which {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (be) home to many shopping malls. We never anticipated seeing such an open country until the train headed across the Great Prairie. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} amazed us most were a bunch of farms covering two wheat-growing provinces. The train thundered on, through the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (roll) hills in Ontario. It was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (true) enjoyable to watch the red maple leaves outside the window. After four days, we reached Toronto.

How do you kill your time when you go to work? Most of us stare at our cell phones, and refuse to make eye contact with others. We just read, chat with others online or play games online. Or maybe we're using the time between stops to do our make-up, catch up on emails, or read a few chapters of a book. However, Dina Alfasi takes a very different approach.

Each day she has to travel hours on buses and trains to get to her engineering job at a hospital in Israel. Rather than look at her cell phone in silence, she uses one very special way to have connection with strangers. It is portraits of the people she meets on public transport every day that she is taking. The photographs catch those quiet and personal moments of people readying themselves for the day ahead. Some people lean their heads against the window and go to sleep, some stare into space and have a daydream, and others sit quietly to read their documents or books. Each picture captures one tiny moment in people's lives, ripe with potential for your imagination. It is wonderful for her to look at someone's commute(上下班) and make up an entire story about the rest of their daily existence, from the father travelling with a baby to the woman welcoming a change.

"What inspires me very much are the little moments that happen every day," Dina told My Modern Met. "My work is to tell stories through a single portrait, and it proves that all you need is just to look around and find those magic moments."

In 2011,a law was born.A kind of ladybug(瓢虫)became the state insect of North Dakota.When the governor 1 the bill into law,four kids stood behind him! 

Jaden,Logan,Megan and Isabel were in first grade 2 their idea for a law was born.Megan and Logan were farm kids and they had been 3 with the ladybug already.They knew that farmers had difficulty in controlling crop-eating pests called aphids and that ladybugs tended to 4 on aphids.The more ladybugs were around,the fewer 5 the farmers had to use.

They decided that this ladybug should be their state insect.This ladybug was of great 6 to the crops on the farm and deserved a place of honor.But they had no idea how to 7 a law.So they asked help from their teacher,who happened to 8 their local state representative.When they all met,he told the kids they would have to present facts and reasons to 9 lawmakers that North Dakota was in need of the ladybug as the state insect.

The students spent much of that first-grade spring 10 ladybugs.There was no doubt that their research was hard work 11 ,they fell in love with it."Even if we hadn't achieved what we wanted," says Jaden,"even if the bill hadn't been passed,I think it was really 12 a lot."

In the fall of their second-grade year,they were invited to speak to a committee.In 13 ,Megan wrote songs for the group to sing,they contacted more experts for support,and they practiced their presentation a lot!They showed up at the state building in ladybug costumes and presented their case.14 ,the bill was passed! 

The students want everyone to know that kids can make a 15 "Whether you are 8 or 80," says Isabel,"you have a voice in your community(社区)."

Hummingbirds (蜂鸟) are a very important part of Mexico's ecosystem, but because of the ever-spreading city landscape, they face all sorts of serious dangers. That's where 73-year-old Catia Lattouf de Arida comes in. As a self-taught hummingbird care-taker, she devotes most of her free time and resources to nursing the tiny birds back to health. Her home in Mexico City has become known as a hummingbird hospital.

Catia's story as a hummingbird nurse began in 2011, at a very difficult moment in her life. At that time, she focused on her battle with cancer and fell into a depression (抑郁) . She was walking on the street one day when she noticed a hummingbird that had suffered a serious eye injury. The kindhearted woman took it home and named it Gucci. She managed to nurse Gucci back to health, but she said it was Gucci that saved her. Why? Because the hummingbird managed to pull her out of the sadness and loneliness that had taken over her life. 

Word of her success spread among Catia's friends, and before long some of them began bringing her injured hummingbirds. She didn't repulse them at all. She began to study the bird and their habits in order to better take care of them, and after 11 years of experience, the 73-year-old woman is considered an expert on hummingbirds. 

In order to raise awareness of the difficult situation of hummingbirds in Mexico, Catia Lattouf de Arida started posting videos of the patients in her Mexico City apartment on social media, and many of them became popular. That's when the need for her nursing services really blew up. She has cared for hundreds of hummingbirds in her 11-year career, when she has had as many as 50 of them in her apartment at any one time. She spends pretty much all her time looking after the tiny birds.

Sullivan calls her right arm her "little arm". The 10-year-old was born with that arm less than half the 1 size. She has no elbow and tiny fingers to 2 things. However, it never discouraged her. This 3 kid could always find a way to make that little arm 4 for her. Until recently, riding a bike has proved out of her reach. But that might soon change 5 some college students.

Sullivan's grandparents saw a local news about Siena College students making a prosthetic (假肢的) hand for a little girl using the school's 3D printer. They went to see if her granddaughter could be a 6 for a new arm like that girl. However, there was a 7 when the grandparents asked if the college group could help Sullivan, as the design was for limbs (肢体) 8 an elbow or wrist.

Fortunately, Kristin, a junior engineering major said yes. She and her team couldn't 9 a perfect solution, but they promised to try. They met Sullivan from time to time to measure and test the design, 10 the initial plans to fit Sullivan's little arm. They've worked for almost a year to build Sullivan a solution. The task has been one of 11 and creativity,12 by kindness. "Sometimes you get 13 , but she is so excited," Kristin said. "Her motivation and her strength, 14 our team along."

On May 4, Sullivan received her arm. She also received a(n) 15 surprise: a new bike. 

In 2014, Amy collapsed from a brain hemorrhage (脑溢血) while working. After a year recovering at home, she 1 a course with the ambition to become a 2 .

However, occasional vision disturbance was still 3 , influencing the amount of 4 she could give to the course. Further complications (并发症) left the young artist almost completely blind, making it difficult to see a whole figure. It's particularly 5 because it seemed to 6 her optimism to be a painter! 

One morning, when watching the sunrise, she suddenly felt a sense of 7 . She realized that she may not 8 a whole face anymore, but it shouldn't stop her from putting what she could see on canvas (画布). The following years, she 9 her special art journey.

"Strangely, my experience has increased my 10 when drawing, enabling me to catch a character better," she explains. "People often speak highly of the detail and sensitivity of the character. I have more determination and appreciation for my 11 . These are 12 I wouldn't have had without everything I've 13 ." For her new touring exhibition, she has produced a series of artworks based on her visual experience. "In the 14 interaction between what I can and cannot see lies my perspective on the world."

Sometimes, we can turn a loss into a gain: something unique and individual that has been gifted to us by never 15 .
