    Tom has tried many ways to be ill. He doesn't wear a sweater when he should, and two days ago he walked in the rain without his shoes. But nothing happened.

    Yesterday Millie told Tom about a boy in her class who liked being away from school. The boy would rub(摩擦) the end of the thermometer(温度计) until it went up to 39℃. Then he put it in his mouth and his mother would think he was really ill.

    This morning Tom was trying doing that but it never went above 35℃ and he rubbed it for ten minutes. So he held the thermometer next to the light on his desk and it went up to 40℃. He thought he'd put it in his mouth and walk downstairs like that. Then his mother would take it out and she would be worried when she saw that he was rather ill.

    The only trouble was that he didn't know the thermometer would be so hot. As soon as he put it into his mouth it burnt his tongue(舌头) ! He spit(吐) the thermometer out. It fell on the floor but it didn't break.Then ,Tom will have to think a better way to get his mother and father back together.

    Several days ago, Brenda had a car accident that led to one of her legs being cut off. Since then she didn't talk to anyone."I wish I could bring her friends to visit her," said Brenda's mother. "But it's a long bus trip." The nurse smiled, "Don't worry. We have a plan."Later that day, the nurse had taken Brenda to another room. "Here's your new roommate, Annie Wiggle-Do," the nurse introduced a dark-hair teenager on the other bed.

    As soon as the nurse left, she jumped out of her bed with her only foot and sat at the other end of Brenda's bed, "I lost my leg from bone cancer," she said. "What happened to yours?" Brenda was so shocked that she couldn't say a word. "You're lucky." Annie continued. "You've still got your knee. They had to take mine."

    "I'd like to have a chat with you, but my friends are coming any time now, so I have to get ready." Annie said when she took off her hair! Her head was completely bald(秃头的).

    "Oh, I forgot to tell you, the medicine they gave me to kill the cancer also killed my hair." Annie looked out her wigs(假发), brown and yellow, short and long, straight and curly."That's why I thought up 'Annie Wiggle-Do'." Annie smiled. "Get it? Any wig will do? Annie Wiggle-Do?"     A few days ago I got a call from my old college friend whom I haven't seen for a very long time. We talked about all the good old times that we had. Then he started talking about his father. His father was badly ill in hospital and couldn't sleep at night, he often talked to himself and made a lot of noise. My friend was angry about this and shouted at his father to stop talking, but after his father stopped talking, he died a few days later.

    My friend was very sorry for speaking the ill words towards his father, he was so sad that he cried like a baby on the other end of the telephone. He said that from that moment on, he prayed every day, asking God to let his father forgive him.

    Sometimes, we complain our parents, but do we realize that our parents take care of us and always stay around us from the day we were born to our adulthood (成年), imagine how sad our parents will be when they hear an unlucky word of "no" come out from our mouths.

    There are so many unlucky children who have neither fathers nor mothers. My dear friends, we can make promises to ourselves that from now on there will be no bad words that come out from our mouths to our parents, take good care of our parents, even if it takes only a second to stay with them, they will be very happy.
