Every year the students at Harry's school put on a concert. Their friends and parents go to the concert. Some students sing and dance. Others act in plays.

Harry likes to act. He also likes to write plays. For one concert he wrote a play about a spaceman. He called it Lost in Space. He acted in his play. He was the spaceman.

Harry made his own costume. It was a spacesuit. He used plastic bags to make the pants. He wore a shirt that belonged to his mother. It was an old shirt. It was made of silk. She did not want it anymore.

His shoes were an old pair of his father's. He didn't want them anymore either. They were made of leather.

Harry's helmet was an old motorcycle helmet. 

Harry painted his costume with silver paint. He looked like a spaceman. 

There was only one problem. No one could hear what he said! 

I have been a writer for the school newspaper the Dagligtale, since my first day here at the University of Alberta. I probably won't work as a reporter after I finish university, but this doesn't mean my experience as a reporter has been useless. In fact, I have learned something important through this job.

I still remember my first news story. It was about the winning of the school baseball team. I came to the celebration and was told to do some interviews (采访). I was afraid. Talking to people I don't know was one of my worries. But I tried my best and did it. I talked to the students, the players and the team leader. It was something I had never dreamed of doing before. This experience made me believe in myself and helped me to improve my social skills (社交技能).

As a student reporter, I have learned to do research and to think carefully about what I read. Finding out the facts is important when you are writing for the school newspaper, but in the Information Age, this is also a useful skill in everyday life.

As a student reporter, I always know that I have a lot to learn. I'm never afraid of asking people for advice. I have learned how to use it to make improvements to myself.

To be a reporter is not easy, but I'm thankful that I have had the chance (机会) to try my hand at it. It has taught me to be a better storyteller, student and citizen. If you are ever given a chance to write for a school newspaper or magazine, take it and learn everything you can!

Last month, Li Ya had a seven-day vacation. His family planned a three-day trip to Beijing and Xi'an. They decided to go to Beijing by train first. 

On the first day morning, they took a bus for a tour of Tian'anmen Square. There were many visitors there. Then they paid a visit to the Palace Museum. It was great. For lunch, they ate some vegetables, beef and rice. After lunch, they visited the Summer Palace. They took a boat ride on Kunming Lake there. It was fun. In the evening, they ate Beijing Duck in Quanjude, a very famous restaurant. It was delicious. 

The next day they visited the Great Wall. When Li Ya was standing the Great Wall, he felt as if he was in ancient days. he could see many laborers (劳工) working very hard to build this wall. He wondered how they finished this extremely difficult work by hand.

On the third morning, they flew to Xi'an. They visited the Xi'an Circumvallation(西安城墙) and took quite a lot of photos there. They had mutton noodles for lunch. In the afternoon, they visited the Terracotta Army(兵马俑). Li Ya was surprised to know that each warrior of the Terracotta Army is about 1.8 meters tall, and none of them looks the same. In the evening, they enjoyed a wonderful dance show. 

①Have you ever heard of the British Library? It is one of the largest research libraries in the world. 

②The British Library has more than 170 million items. Its collection includes 14 million books, along with a great number of manuscripts(手稿). In the Chinese collection, people can find more than 450 Chinese oracle bones(甲骨) dating back over three thousand years to the Shang Dynasty and the Diamond Sutra, the world's earliest-dated printed book. 

③Recently, sixteen Chinese online novels have become the first Chinese web novels to be included in the British Library. Readers can look up the information of the 16 books on the library's website and borrow printed copies at the library. 

④The books now in the library's Asian & African collections are The Wisdom of the Great Song Dynasty,Good Spring Time,Magic World and so on. And these works are considered as the classics of Chinese online literature(文学) from the past 20 years. 

⑤The British Library chooses books according to readers' requirements and the value of the books — what the readers want to read and what works are important in culture. The collection of the 16 works shows that online literature has become important. Let's take one of them as an example. 

⑥The novel named Good Spring Time gives special attention to china culture, showing a spirit that encourages people to fight against fate(命运) actively, and describes women's independence, as well as the love and care among family members. 

⑦Although some people think it is not a big deal for the 16 Chinese works to be included in the British Library, others, especially, some fans and writers in China are very excited and regard it as a successful cultural exportation(输出). And they hope for more attention to web novels in the future. 

Here is a recipe:

Ingredients: 2 potatoes; 1 egg; 2 spoons of flour (面粉); 3 spoons of vegetable oil (植物油); 1 spoon of salt.

Instructions:

*Peel the potatoes and cut them up. Cook them for 20~25 minutes and then put them into a bowl.

*Break the egg into the bowl. Also add the salt and flour to it.

*Mix them all up.

*Put the pan (平底锅) on the gas cooker (煤气灶) and turn on the gas cooker.

*When the pan is warm, pour the vegetable oil into it.

*Then pour the mixture in the bowl into the pan when the oil is at a high temperature.

*Turn it over from time to time. Bake (烘焙) it for about five minutes.

*Finally, you can enjoy it.
