Didyou ever set up a lemonade stand (柠檬水小摊) when you were a kid？ Manyof us did and if we were very lucky, we could make enough money to buy icecream from the Good Humour Truck.

Last Saturday, Jack Yielding, a five-year-old boy from Oakville, Ontario, got $41,233from two lemonade stands and a car charity (慈善) wash. Jack gave the money to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, where Jack who has epilepsy (羊癫疯）, is a patient there.

    Thiswas Jack's second year to host the Lemonade Stand for sick kids, andthe whole town came to show their love. More than 1,000peoplecame to the lemonade stands on Saturday.

①Jiyou Village in Guizhou Province is famous for its ancient trees and beautiful folk songs. The village is full of Miao culture, and forests cover most of its land. Because of its rich culture, Jiyou Village was included in the List of China's Traditional Villages in August 2013.

②One of the most important events in Jiyou Village is the Bridge Worship Festival(祭桥节). It is celebrated on the second day of the second lunar month. During this festival, the Miao people take an active part in the joyful preparations, cooking traditional dishes, making wine, and practicing their traditional songs and dances.

③When the festival approaches, the village becomes lively, with villagers dressing up in colorful Miao clothes. Men play the lushing, a traditional musical instrument, while women carry baskets filled with delicious food and wine. The children, dressed in their best clothes, can hardly wait for the fun to begin.

④The highlight of the festival is the bridge worship ceremony(仪式). Villagers come together under the guidance of the elders to honor the bridge and celebrate their heritage(传统).

⑤Many tourists come to experience the traditional festival. During the daytime celebrations, the village square is filled with the happy music of the lushing as villagers and visitors dance together. Tourists take pictures and make videos to remember the special moments.

⑥As night falls, villagers and tourists gather around a bonfire(篝火) in the square. They laugh and chat while sharing stories and delicious food. It's a great time to make new friends and enjoy the warm atmosphere(气氛).

In 1937, my father, who was almost 20 years old, started a long journey. He traveled a thousand miles across China with his university, Zhejiang University, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression(抗日战争). The Chinese government wanted to keep the university students safe because they were important for the country's future. As the university planned for the journey, the Head Librarian of Zhejiang Library, asked the university to take a valuable collection of books with them.

The books were called" Siku Quanshu". Created in the 18th century, this was a huge encyclopedia(百科全书) with 2.3 million pages and about 997 million words. It was so important that plans were made to protect it at any cost, even though it added another 230 boxes to the students' cargo.

The journey was not easy. Students and teachers were facing the dangers from air attacks.(空袭). They were always tired and hungry. They had to sleep on the ground in old temples(寺庙) but they continued their classes whenever they could. To protect the books, they tried to move by boat or truck whenever possible; at other times, they would put the boxes into carts(手推车). Sometimes the students had to carry some of the books in their backpacks. One scary moment was when a box of the Siku Quanshu books fell into a river. They quickly saved the books and dried them in a local temple.

After 1,400 miles and 28 months on the road, the university group finally reached a small town called Zunyi in Guizhou province. They stayed there in simple classrooms and dorms, until the war moved deeper into China. To further protect the Siku Quanshu, the books were hidden in a nearby cave, guarded by university staff. The books made it through the war in surprisingly good condition and were sent back to Zhejiang Library.

This amazing story shows how a group of young students and their teachers did everything they could to protect their culture's treasures. They faced many dangers and hardships, but they never gave up. They worked together to keep their knowledge safe.

" It's time for Field Day again," thought Chloe as she started the last week of school. Chloe was not looking forward to it." Why does everybody think it a big day?" Chloe asked her 1 ." Well, it should be a fun day and a day to 2 ," said Chloe's mom." I'm not good at any of those games that are played, and I'm afraid the kids are going to 3 me. Maybe I can stay at home and 4 Field Day," said Chloe.

 Mary was Chloe's closest friend, and they walked to school every day." Aren't you 5 Field Day?" Mary asked Chloe." No, I don't care about such a boring day. No one ever picks me for their team 6 I'm not good at those games," answered Chloe7 .

Mary felt bad and she told her mom how unexcited Chloe was and 8 what she could do to cheer her friend up." Maybe you can get in a game that you know Chloe is good at," Mary's mom 9 . Mary thought for a moment and said that she knew Chloe was really good at the game horseshoes. She was also good at the water balloon toss too.

Field Day finally arrived. Mary came by Chloe's house for10 daily walk to school Chloe was very 11 on the way to school. Mary noticed that and said," I hear they are going to have horseshoes this year and also a water balloon game."" Really? I 12 horseshoes, and I am pretty good at catching those water balloons without breaking them." said Chloe.13 , Chloe got excited about going to school and starting Field Day.

The games began, and Chloe had the 14 Field Day ever! Thanks to Mary, Chloe's team won the first place in the water balloon toss and she got a ribbon (绶带) for the second place in horseshoes." What a great day!" Chloe said to Mary. With Mary's15 , Chloe is now looking forward to Field Day next year!

Last year a rainstorm came to a small village. Many houses were broken. Several people were badly hurt and taken to hospital. 

A student, Kate, said, "It was terrible. I was helping my mother make breakfast when the rain started to beat heavily against the windows. 

"I was eating with my family," a housewife, Jenny said. "I heard a loud noise. A few minutes later, our house fell down. We tried our best to get out. We were very afraid but safe."

Mr Green, an engineer (工程师), said that he was drinking coffee and reading a newspaper in the office when he felt that the building began to shake. He had to stay in the office. "There was no electricity (电) and I couldn't contact (联系) my family members," he said. "I was very worried about them at that time."

Volunteers were helping the people out of the village and giving food and clothes to them. They felt very tired but it was meaningful.
