As humans, we use the senses of sight, touch, and hearing to communicate. We send messages with body language, we greet friends with touch, and we use words to show our feelings and ideas. Animals don't communicate in as many ways as humans --for example, they don't have language like we do —but many animals do also use the senses of sight, touch, and hearing. A good example of this is elephant communication.

Like humans, elephants understand each other by looking at each other's body language. To send a message, they use their whole body, or just their heads, eyes, mouth, ears, trunk (象鼻), tail, or feet. For example, elephants spread (展开) their ears to show anger. And while humans shake their heads to disagree, elephants to do this to show they are happy.

As with humans, touch is also very important between elephants. Just like a human mother holds her baby, a mother elephant regularly touches her young baby with her trunk. Elephants also show they are friendly when they touch other elephants. And when they want to have fun, they hold each other by the trunk and pull. Even if they can't laugh like a human, elephants have a great sense of humor.

Elephants have very large ears, which means they can hear other elephants from as far as 2.5miles away. Like humans, they can also copy sounds and make their own sounds that seem to communicate basic human words and phrases like, "Hello." "I love you." and "Let's go."

So while it's true that humans are amazing at communication, elephants also communicate in ways that we can't and that's probably true for other animals, too. The next time your pet dog or cat looks at you, touches you, or makes a noise, it's probably trying to tell you something very important!

Oceanic islands, located far out in the ocean, are usually the tops of underwater volcano. These volcanic islands are formed when underwater volcanoes crupt(爆发). 

In August 1883, an ocean ic island called Krakatau in Indonesia was blasted apart by volcanic eruptions. It was one of the most violent cruptions in the world. The effects(影响) of this volcanic eruption was both immediate and long-term

In the "immediate" part, two-thirds of the island disappeared buncâth the sea. Pour huge eruptions created tsunamis (huge waves) that rose 120 feet high. More than 30, 000 people drowned in the tsunamis, which caused floods as far away as San Francisco and the English Channel. Tens of thousands of people on ncarby Indonesian islands were killed by walls of water, hot clouds of volcanic ash, gas, and rock.

In the longer term, climate patterns(气候模式) after Krakatoa's eruption influenced the whole world. The huge amounts of as h and gas entered into the sky and caused clouds to throw back more light than normal, cooling the Eorth. The following year, average(平均的) temperatures dropped by as much as 2. 2 degrees Fahrenheit. A few degrees F dropping n. ay not sound like much, but it is a big deal to plants and animals. 

In general, volcanoes cause lots of changes to the world's geography and climate. Although scientists are becoming better at finding when and where volcanoes will erupt, we must still respect the nature's power. 

Hi, I'm Andy. I'm 30 years old. I'm a doctor, and I live at Scott Base. It's very cold here. At night it can be -50℃, and in the middle of the day it's only -20℃.

There are twelve people living here. There is a restaurant, a TV room, a small shop and 6 bedrooms — one bedroom is for two people. Jack is my roommate. He is very tidy and he cleans the bedroom every day. Most of the food is from New Zealand and we also eat fish from the sea.

We work 5 days a week. Every morning I go swimming in the sea. After work, I usually play football or watch TV. I also love watching birds.

It's cold here, but it's also a very beautiful place to live. I love it.

I was on vacation with my family last May Day. We{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(spend) the first four days in Paris. We {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(have) a sightseeing tour of the city and we also{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(visit) some of the famous places like the Eiffel Tower. From Paris we{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(travel) down to the south of France near Maeseilles by boat. We{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(stay) there for five days. There we had a lot of fun. We {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(swim) in the sea and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(take) a lot of photos. We also{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(do) lots of sports on the beach. We {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(go) back a week late by train. The trip{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) interesting, and the food was delicious.

A few days ago, the British polar explorer and environmentalist (极地探险家及环境学家) Robert Swan visited our school and we asked him to give a talk on his trips. He was the first person walking to both the North and South Poles and he did something really amazing by reaching the South Pole only on renewable energy (可再生能源) . 

Swan's stories of his trips really impressed me. It was more than 30 years ago when he first went to the South Pole. There was nothing they could use to talk to people outside there and the nearest person to him and his teammates was 2, 500 kilometers away. So they had to face all the problems by themselves. He also told us that when taking a shower during the trip, you had to take off all your clothes in the temperature of -30℃ and finished the shower as fast as you could. 

In 2017, Swan set foot on the South Pole again, this time with his son. The trip was highly great, not only because Swan was already 61 years old, but also because it was the world's first trip to Antarctica (南极洲) to be made only using renewable energy. 

Also, he talked about the importance of saving energy and taking good care of our planet (星球). After his talk, I was sure what I should do and the hope for the wonderful future washed over me. 

Long long ago, John and Tom lived in the same village. One day, John sold his well ( 井 ) to Tom. The next day, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Tom went to get water from the well, John didn' t{#blank#}2{#/blank#} him to do so. He said, "I sold you the well, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the water, so you cannot get water from the well."

 Tom went to the king {#blank#}4{#/blank#} help. The king asked Paul, a clever man, to solve the problem." {#blank#}5{#/blank#} don't you let Tom use the water in the well ? " Paul asked John. John answered, "Paul, I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the well to him, but I didn't sell the water in the well."

 Paul said, "Look, because you sold the well to Tom, now you have no right( 权利 ) to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the water in the well. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} you pay him to keep your water in his well, or take your water out of his well right now."

 Hearing Paul's words, John {#blank#}9{#/blank#} that he couldn't cheat(欺骗) Tom {#blank#}10{#/blank#} longer.
