In my living room, there is aplaque that advises me to “bloom {#blank#}1{#/blank#}youare planted”. It reminds me of Dorothy. I got to know Dorothy in the early1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program. Thejob {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(responsible) requiredoccasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothystands out in my memory as on one {#blank#}3{#/blank#}bloomed in her remote area.

       Dorothy taught in a remote school nearHarlan. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(wind) around the mountain. In theeight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving thepossibility of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(catch) by thesame train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive throughmountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the smallshabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(hope).

        From the moment of my arrival at thelittle school, all my gloom disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy's classroom,I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(prepare) to show me their {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(late) projects. Dorothy told me witha smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread they madethemselves for dinner.

        Lonely {#blank#}9{#/blank#}she was far away from the moderncivilization and convenience, she never ran out of reports of excitingactivities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooleddown. She passed all the tests {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(excellent)and I found that Dorothy was really blooming where life had planted her.

    I had heard of the killers that helped whalers catch huge whales. When I worked at a whaling station，I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} it many times. One afternoon，I heard a loud noise coming from the bay. We ran down to the shore {#blank#}2{#/blank#} time to see an enormous animal throwing itself out of the water. George，one of the whalers，told me that it was Old Tom，the killer，who was telling us there's a whale. Another whaler {#blank#}3{#/blank#}out to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a whale hunt. We immediately headed out into the bay，with Old Tom {#blank#}5{#/blank#} us the way. Using a telescope we saw that several killers{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the whale were throwing themselves on top of the whale's blow­hole to stop it {#blank#}7{#/blank#} while others were stopping it diving or {#blank#}8{#/blank#} out to sea. Then the man in the bow of the boat aimed at the whale and killed it. These killers {#blank#}9{#/blank#} harmed or attacked people. Once when we were in the bay，the sea was {#blank#}10{#/blank#}，for which James was carried away by waves. Worse still，there was a shark. Fortunately，Old Tom rescued James.

    The British Museum, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (locate) in the Bloomsbury area of London, is the first national public museum dedicated to human history, art and culture. I'm a single mother with a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}( grow ) son. I love him more than I can say.     The ratio of overweight people {#blank#}1{#/blank#} participated in a survey increased from 29% in 2012 to 31.5% in 2016, and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} number of highly overweight people {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (rise) to 550,000, creating a serious headache for {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (medicine) services. The increase of highly overweight people was {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (particular) sharp among those in their 20s.     According to the survey, the highly obesity (肥胖) rate among young people can be a result of their {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (addict) to salt intake and soft drinks from childhood. Eating too much salty food is considered {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a main factor leading to health problems. Besides, drinking soft drinks is also to blame because it makes people more likely {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (gain) weight.

    The result may affect the new lifestyle of those people. Cutting down on salt can be hard, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} repeated training to prefer less salty food is necessary. Start by adding half as much salt to your dinner as you normally do.
