Many people may not know the name of the girl in the photo but her large and clear eyes can often be seen in newspapers.

    Her name is Su Mingjuan and now she's more than 30 years old. In 1991, when Su was only 8 years old, Xie Hailong, a photographer from China Youth Daily, took a picture of her in a classroom which was in a poor condition in Anhui.

    The photo was later used as a poster for Project Hope. It has become a symbol of the country's efforts to make more people realize the importance of education. Her large and clear eyes crying for knowledge in the picture have moved a big number of people across China, who have donated (捐赠） money to help children continue their schooling since then.

    Having received help from Project Hope, Su herself has also been helping poor students. She began to study at Anhui University in 2003. After entering college, she wrote to the China Youth Development Foundation, the organizer of Project Hope, to transfer her living allowance (补助) of 900 yuan a term to other students in need. And she began to do part-time jobs to make money. After graduation, Su found a job in a bank. Since she started working, she has donated 1,000 yuan every year.

    Since it was started in 1989, Project Hope has received about 13 billion yuan in donations from home and abroad. And the money has been used to build over 19,000 primary schools and help over 5. 5 million children.

Scientists are also making robots that look and act like animals. At NASA, scientists are making a robot snake which can get into holes (洞). One day, it may help scientists look for signs of life on Mars. There are other animal robots. The frog-bot can jump over things. The sticky-bot can walk up walls. There's even a robot called Water Runner that can walk on water.

But can a robot football team ever play as well as a human team? Many scientists think so. Anything is possible. One day, they may even be world champions (冠军)!

Macao is in the southeast of China. It's only forty miles from Hong Kong and it is easy to reach. You can get there by ship. It is an interesting place and it has a long history. Macao is a part of China and most people living there are Chinese.

The first Europeans to go to Macao came from Portugal (葡萄牙). More than four hundred years ago, the Portuguese went there to do business with China. Some didn't leave and made their homes there. They built strong forts(城堡) to protect the city and the harbor(港口). They also built churches, schools, hospitals and other places. Slowly the city grew. People from many countries came to live, and work in Macao.

Today many people visit Macao. It is relaxing to walk around and look at the old buildings and forts. You may feel you are back in the old days. Of course, some of the buildings are now in ruins(毁坏). The Church of St. Paul has only the front wall with many steps leading up to it. But it is still interesting to see.

When you are hot and tired, there are small cool gardens to rest in. When you are hungry, there are good restaurants with many kinds of food. Nearby are some islands, which are also nice to visit and are easy to get to. There is certainly a lot to see and to do in Macao. People of Macao warmly welcome visitors from home and overseas(海外的).
