Our parents are important people in our life. They are our first teachers in our life. They love us and help us all the time. But do you want to get on well with them? Here are some ways to help you to be happy with your parents. 

Have fun together 

How much time do you spend just enjoying being with each other? Ask your parents to play with you. Go outside together, try some sports, or go to the movies. 

Be kind 

Little things may bring a lot to your parents. Make a meal for them by yourself and that can make your parents happy. 

Ask for help 

When you are in trouble or meet some sad things, you can ask your parents for help and advice. They will be happy to listen to you and help you. 

Have a try 

You don't have to be the best but you need to have a try. They will be happy to see you have the courage to achieve your dream. It lets them know they're doing a good job in helping you grow up. 

Xian Xinghai was a very famous musician in China. He wrote one of 1 pieces of music of the 20th century. In his short life, he wrote nearly 300 songs and 2 opera. 

Xian was born in Panyu, Guangdong, China in 1905. His father died before he was born, Xian moved from place 3 place with his mother. He began learning 4 the violin when he was 20 years old. In the beginning, his violin was very old and cheap. So he 5 play it well. His friends laughed at him. Xian did not stop 6 and soon showed his talent. In 1934, he studied in a special music school in Paris. He was one of the first Chinese students to go there. Before he left, Xian became the school's best student and won several prizes for his talents. 

In 1935, he 7 to China and helped fight against the Japanese army. 8 , he came to Yan'an to teach music at a college. 9 there were no pianos in Yan'an at that time, Xian still wrote some of his most important music there. 

In May 1940, the Chinese Communist Party sent Xian to the Soviet Union to write music for movies. In the Soviet Union, life was very hard. Xian got sick and died on 30th October, 1945, aged only 40. However, he gave 10 the wonderful music. And we will remember Xian. 

Yesterday, Peter had a wonderful trip with his parents on the Ferris wheel (摩天轮) in Bao'an Coastal Cultural Park. He was so amazed at the new city landmark that he wanted to know more about the Ferris wheel. So he looked it up in an encyclopedia online.

In 1892, so mc leaders from Chicago planned a fair. They wanted it to be the greatest fair ever. It would show the newest ideas in science, business and art. They also wanted to build something amazing at the fair. The Eiffel Tower had been built three years before in France. The Chicago leaders wanted something even more impressive. So they asked people to send in designs.

G. W. Ferris was a young engineer. He heard about the fair. He wanted to attract visitors to the fair, so he decided to design a big wheel made of steel (钢). The wheel was 250 feet across. Large cars hung from the end of each spoke (车轮辐). Each car carried 60 people in a big circle through the air.

On May 1, 1893, the fair opened. People from around the world came to see the latest inventions. They felt the heat of new electric stoves. They stood in the cool wind of small fans. They even saw a machine that washed the dishes.

Ferris's wheel was the main attraction at the Chicago Fair. People stood in line to ride on it. They wanted to see the fairgrounds from the wheel's highest point. As the wheel turned upward, some people were afraid. Others were thrilled at what they saw below. Fountains shone in the sunlight. Flags waved in the wind. A train snaked through the grounds. At night, coloured lights li t up the sky.

Today we call these smaller wheels "Ferris wheels".

I felt coming steps. She was coming to teach all things to me, and to love me. 

I still remember the morning my teacher came, she led me into her room and gave me a doll (玩具娃娃). When I had played with it a little while, Miss Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word "d-o-l-l". I was at once interested in this finger play and tried to imitate (模仿) it. When I succeeded in making the letters correctly, I was so excited and proud. I did not know I was spelling, even didn't understand everything has a name. 

 Once, as I was playing with my new doll, Miss Sullivan put my old doll onto my leg, spelled"d-o-l-l" and tried to make me understand they were both dolls. Another time, she tried to tell me that"m-u-g" is mug and that"w-a-t-e-r" is water, but I still mixed them up. Hopelessly, she had to teach me from the beginning.  ▲ , so I threw the new doll upon the floor. 

I was quite happy when I felt the pieces of the broken doll at my feet. I was neither sad nor regretful. In my still, dark world, there was no warmth or love. I felt my teacher sweep the pieces aside, and it seemed that my trouble moved away. 

Later, we walked down the path to a well house. Someone was drawing water(抽水) and she placed my hand under the spout. As the cool stream flowed over one hand, she spelled the word"w-a-t-e-r" into the other, first slowly, then rapidly. I stood still and paid my whole attention on her fingers. Suddenly I knew "w-a-t-e-r" meant the wonderful thing flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, and set it free!

I left the well house and wanted to learn more about the world. As we returned to the house, I remembered the doll I had broken. I picked up the pieces and tried to put them together. Then I cried, for I realised what I had done, and for the first time I felt sad and regretful. 

I learned many new words that day. I do not remember what they all were, but I do know that mother, father, sister and teacher were among them. It would have been difficult to find a happier child than I was. While lying in my bed at the end of that day, I hoped for a new day to come for the first time.

①A lot of students like playing sports every day, but if sports aren't going to be your future, why should you play them? Why would you train every day even though you feel very tired? Wouldn't it be better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons?

②In fact, there are lots of reasons to play sports. First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong. It also helps you stay in a good condition. When you take exercise, your body makes endorphins(内啡肽) which give you more energy and let you feel happier.

③Sports are important for everyone, and they are especially important for young people. They teach young people about winning and losing. Also, they teach young people how to communicate and work as a team. They teach young people to respect their coaches, teammates and players from the other team. Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sports, he or she may have fewer problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.

④Another advantage of sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, a lot of people spend too much time watching television and playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.

⑤Maybe you' re not going to become a sports professional(专家), but that doesn't matter. Sports will help you become a better and happier person.

My dad is a big fan of tea. He always asked me, "Lingling, how about having a cup of tea with me?" I always refused and felt {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

That day, as usual, Dad made the tea {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Through his quiet moves, I felt the steam water into the teapot and the tea leaves opened slowly. Then the water turned green little by little.

I took a cup and tasted it. It was a little bitter (苦的) at first. But when I tasted it again, the tea left a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} taste. I even felt sweetness.

I suddenly realized that life is just like a cup of tea. The world around us is like the boiling water and the people are like the leaves. The leaves give off their delicate fragrance (香味) only through hot water. Similarly, we must also meet with {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in our life. Maybe we must face bitterness in the beginning, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} we can choose to fight for the sweetness ahead.
